I'm just seriously down with Wizards making money off of eternal formats. The success of this incentivizes them to re-evaluate and re-revaluate over and over again the reserve list/reprint policy. If anything, this will prove to collectors who would tisk tisk if they decide to reprint stuff that the value won't change and there's no need for the list anymore. Maybe. All I know is I'm buying this, regardless of what cards are in it, to support them giving eternal players more cards and helping Vintage and Legacy.
Why are people weirded out by the $10 tag? Thats the same as MM2015. All things considered they could have charged $20 a pack and gotten away with it.
Oh, but the stores will. There's every reason to think this set opens the gates at 20 - 30 dollars a pack. The only limitation will be whether SOMEONE is willing to pay that price. ITS TIME TO FINALLY FIND OUT THE MAXIMUM POSSIBLE THESE IDIOTS (eg: us ) WILL PAY FOR PACKS! If you have a store that is dedicated to a good draft experience and willing to sell them at MSRP to make that happen, GO TO ALL THE DRAFTS YOU CAN FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
Everyone else? Sit back and wait for Legacy staples to drop in price on eBay slightly during the print run and gobble up the cards. Remember, while Modern Masters did jack-all for Tarmagoyf and the other mythics, it cut prices of staple uncommons and commons in half or more while it was in print.
After seeing that FoW I kinda just want Terese Nielson set. A lighting bolt with that style for instance, and other staples would be awesome in 1 deck.

how many cards that we really need to be reprinted are in this set? in 300 cards it would surprise me if there are 20 of those.
Correct, but bringing down the price of the really expensive mainstays has never been what makes these sets worth it. Wait and see what is printed at common and uncommon. Things like Bolts, Brainstorm, Swords to Plowshares, Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual, and so on now have a chance for a premium printing or new art. During the time it's being opened, they will probably be reasonably affordable too. This is a GREAT chance for people with smaller collections to get access to older cards, or others to pimp out EDH decks.
Personally, I'm hoping that this won't turn into "Modern Masters III - now with Modern illegal cards" and will actually contain old cards. Even though reprint policy list is a hinder, I hope Wizards will use this chance to reprint old cards for Cube and EDH (Like Mana Crypt and Mana Vault) that are really in need of a reprint.

I'm happy that it's finally confirmed, but I'm also accustomed to holding my horses when it comes to availability of money masters type products. There is absolutely no way the msrp will be anywhere near 10 bucks. Force of will as mythic is a bit cringeworthy, yet understandable considering the cards history. I'm also fanboying out that Terese Nielsen provided the art for it again!
Fingers crossed for that long awaited modern-frame new art mana vault and really necessary mana crypt reprint.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Remember, this is supposed to be a draft-friendly format, too. Figuring out what Legacy/Modern staples lend themselves to a draftable format may help us sauce what is likely to be in it. Any ideas? Here's my ideas for what best exemplifies each color by itself in Legacy:
Red: Goblins.
Blue: Merfolk.
Black: Storm or Pox.
White: Death and Taxes stuff.
Green: Elves
But, what about the color combinations? What can each color share that meshes with Legacy?
Winding Canyons and Yavimaya Hollow are on the Reserved List, and since Wasteland is 248/249, I guess that means allied fetches are out, because that leaves only one slot for Windswept Heath and Wooded Foothills. Wooded Bastion would be nice for a non-Expedition reprint.

the problem with eternal formats is the cost of different cards that you must play no matter what in these format
who cares about a new art for a 20 cent card honestly.. this will be a 15/20 dollar per pack set where you play lottery hoping for a very close number of good cards in a pool of 300 vintage or banned in legacy/modern - not relevant cards..
this set will make price go up even more for some staples and this set will definetly kill vintage/legacy
Hmm, I didn't miss the part about a foil card in each booster did I? I really hope this product gets that treatment, and with good quality foils this time. mm2's dark, metallic foils were the worst I've even seen imo.

One day The Reserved List will meet its end.One Day...
When this was first rumored I had a thought that they could do something like a $29.99 MSRP per pack and include the reserve list cards. That would be one way of making sure the value for the collectors didn't tank.
Still, even this could be a test run, maybe WOTC will judge how that secret shadow cabal that keeps the list in place reacts to this and maybe Eternal Masters 2 will have the RL cards.
So they are going to print enough of this that people can actually GET packs right?
Limited print run, from what I've heard. I'd expect your local shops to get the same access to boosters as they did for MM2015. I'm hoping I get the same 24-28 boxes I did then.
Wasteland was just an Expedition so Port being a Judge promo wont stop it showing up here.
I expect True-Name Nemesis, Shardless Agent, and a few other commander hot cards that have never been in foil.
Here is hoping they throw everything but the kitchen sink at this. I am really nervous though with Force of Will at Mythic, we probably only get one or 2 more blue mythics. What do you think it will be? Mana Drain, True-Name, Jace, Personal Tutor, Capture of JInzhou,Cunning Wish, Mystic Confluence, Sun ce,Consecrated Sphinx....
I like the idea of this set but doubt it will have an average box value of >$300. Some will make out huge on foils like Conspiracy, but more likely you will be at about break even or lower for most boxes. And the sad part is the $5-$10 commons and uncommons that are included will drop in price forever because they are all high due to scarcity. No format will push these card prices back up.
