Storm doesn't want cards that are useless when comboing off. The idea of drawing 3 on turn 4 is not good enough for them to want it.
As a huge fan of Thopter Sword combo (I play 1 of each in my legacy stoneblade deck) this is a wonderful day, just need to figure out the right shell (perhaps UW Tezz the Seeker)?

I've been brewing in my head ever since the unban, and I think UW is the way to go with Tezzeret. I'm also going try my hardest to get Time Sieve in there (so I may need to splash black) and potentially even Thopter Spy Network
Are people still seriously dense enough to say that enemy fetches won't be in the set? We were explicitly told that Wizards will not be doing half-cycles of lands in block sets. We got the allied fetches in Khans, couple Wizards' statement with other hints, the enemy fetches will be in Dragons. You have to be a complete idiot to believe otherwise.
The only reasons I didn't think they would ban eye was
1: Collateral damage to Tron and
2: Elrazi with 4 eyes is much worse than Eldrazi with 4 temples.

Ancestral Vision is unbanned. So? Can someone fill me in as to why this is a good card? What other spells let you play this spell for free? By itself drawing cards way later is bad. What cheats the spell into play? Can you snapcaster mage for zero when it's in your graveyard?
Cascade works. Goblin Dark-Dwellers and any other effect that specify "Without paying the cost" work. Snapcaster Mage and Jace of Vryn do not work.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
The price spikes on these cards are crazy. Whoever did the first buyout to raise the price from $7-$8 to $20 must have been been holding out for an unbanning (or knew it was coming).

Or, maybe the head of R&D tweeted that they were looking into unbanning it several months ago and people took that as a cue to pick them up. Buyouts happen, but not every price increase is speculators rubbing their hands together and cackling in dark rooms and treating them all as such isn't helpful. AV has been a reasonable candidate for unbanning for a long time and it makes sense that people would take that tweet as a signal to buy their playsets before the fact. It's not coincidence that the price went up immediately after he said that.

Ancestral vision probably won't matter much even though I love power knockoffs to death. Unlike treasure cruise, it's a terrible card unless you fire it off super early and burn mana you could have been using to get tempo now. I'm not even sure why it was ever banned other than to kick blue for being good in vintage and legacy because the card isn't overpowered. The sword is much more potentially problematic. It was a key part of a real extended deck unlike several of the other early bans that were just being malicious toward old boogymen for past, unrelated issues.
The only reasons I didn't think they would ban eye was
1: Collateral damage to Tron and
2: Elrazi with 4 eyes is much worse than Eldrazi with 4 temples.
eye of ugin is legendary land.So ofcoarse it's worse you can only have 1 at a time.
Ancestral Vision is unbanned. So? Can someone fill me in as to why this is a good card?
Well, you pay 1 mana, and then later you draw 3 cards.
To elaborate, this is primarily a good card for control. They pay one mana (ideally on turn 1) then spend a good while just stalling (as control decks do) until it pops off and refills their hand. It's not particularly good for Storm or Delver or other, more aggressive, blue decks (although they can certainly try to make it work). I'm unaware of any good cascade spells in Modern right now, but they would cast this for free as does Goblin Dark-Dwellers. Maybe some sort of list with Ardent Plea could make use of it?
It's good because now control players can trade resources in the early game and refuel on the late game, you not being able to cheat it out is why it was unbanned, if you could it would certainly have stayed on the list, you can use goblin dark dwellers to flash it back, or try to cascade it out, but the one good cascade spell is still banned, and goblin dark dwellers it out is not as good.
Im pretty happy to see Visions back, but I'm 90% sure it's going the way of Golgari Grave-Troll and, to an extent, Bitterblossom, where it's a powerful card, but you won't see it that often. It could see play in control, but without agent and bloodbraid I'm unsure where else. I can't think of any modern legal cascade spells that are worth using on their own, and If a deck would go heavy on the cascade spells it would much rather be built around restore balance or living end than getting this out.
But while you guys make that work, I'm gonna go make thopters a thing.
I literally laughed till I was out of breath with the Eye getting banned.
I mean, come on, how long was going to last the Eye + Urborg combination? That was too damn insulting, THREE (2B) mana from a single land? It was like freaking Affinity all over again.
And I'm saying this even having been a player that used Eldrazi decks with 4 Temples and Eyes and getting my first Modern Eldrazi deck mutilated by this change, as it was an Urzatron knockoff deck that was based on summoning the Titans one after another and once and again until the opponent couldn't deal with them anymore, with the eye being a centerpiece of such strategy.
So it was Eye. Oh well... I was hopeful it would be Temple but what's done is done.
Surprised by the Ancestral unban honestly. The buyout that's happening right now is quite possibly everything I hate about Magic now: the volatility and abject insanity that is the singles card market.
Sword unban is interesting. Curious to see what a new combo deck in Modern looks like.
I don't get it. What's to hate? I am now tempted to try Visions in Modern, and want a few copies too. Are the people holding them supposed to sell them to me for the same price as when they were banned out of the goodness of their hearts?
Goblin Dark-Dwellers already did good work in my Blue Jund midrange control Modern deck. Now I want to pick up some copies of Visions. Hopefully Jace, Vryn's Prodigy will go down in price with rotation, so I can pick up a playset of those as well.
Either suspend Visions on turn 1, or loot it away with Jace to cast for free with GDD.

Eye + Urborg isn't all that impressive when you take Eldrazi Mimic and Endless One into consideration. With those, Eye can generate 4-6 mana in a single turn. Eye + Urborg was actually pretty tame on the spectrum of Eye of Ugin interactions.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
So it was Eye. Oh well... I was hopeful it would be Temple but what's done is done.

Let's be honest here, those price changes are crazy. Going from $12 to $50 in a matter of MINUTES is not healthy at all.

Here's the thing though. You can already find NM copies for as low as $38 shipped online (not even looking at ebay auctions, just online store prices, tcgplayer, fixed price ebay listings, etc). The initial spike price is just the initial online stores testing the waters to see what people may be willing to pay. You always have to give it a few days, or even a week or two for the prices to settle as new supply floods the market for a card like this (as was the case with ebay, where there was a single buy it now listing and 4 auctions after the unban announcement and now there are 41 auctions and 73 buy it now listings. Which is absolutely insane for a post-unban supply increase within less than 24 hours after the announcement. The price is going to continue to drop, it always does in these sorts of instances. I would be surprised if you couldn't find copies at $30 or less within a week.
Is that still a sizeable increase? Sure. But at the same time, the potential demand from Modern should not be discounted. In situations like this I usually suggest to people to attempt to sell asap to try to get as much as possible, and if you are looking to pick them up, be patient and wait a week or two and see how things settle out. (Just because a card is listed at a certain price, doesn't mean the card is selling at that listed price). That's one of the biggest things to always keep in mind.
