Snapcaster, though, wasn't all that amazing in Limited the first time around. It's an amazing card- in Constructed. Tarmogoyf was the same- they just aren't what you would consider limited bombs. you aren't sad to open them, but they aren't something that your opponent gets the choice of "answer this or lose to it."
The only reason to upgrade Snapcaster to Mythic is to sell more packs. Which is counterproductive, since they'll once again print far less than they can sell anyway. It keeps the price of the cards up, so the people who already have them stay happy and the people who want them, stay unhappy. Unfortunately, WotC has already admitted that Goyf was printed at Mythic, in part, to preserve the value of the ones already out there. Makies me skeptical of any reprint set, they've already decided to let the secondary market make decisions about rarity once, so why wouldn't they keep on doing that?

Cards are game pieces, and should be treated as such, easily replaceable.
Cards are not money, investments, or a retirement fund, and should never have been treated as such.
Wizards made a mistake caving to speculators once, and we still pay for that mistake 2 decades later.
"Entitled:" the entire ad hominem fallacy condensed into a single word. It doesn't strengthen your argument to attack motivations, it just makes you look like you don't understand the argument.

Conspiracy 2 has shown that they are willing to reprint old cards in a non-limited set, which brought Show and Tell from $60 to $20. The problem here is that they keep the Masters series limited, and with the most recent case even more limited than that. We can only hope they learned from Conspiracy 2, but until then you certainly do have a point. They have people by the short hairs and don't seem to mind.
What is the breakdown concerning rarities? Will we have a handful of commons as well?
Like the sets before it in this series this will be Limited playable and contain cards of all rarities (common, uncommon, rare, mythic rare... just in case someone mixes up Masterpieces with a rarity). If you are asking for quality commons then this will be up for debate but there will be commons.
p. s.: I am a little disappointed that this thread was not raised from the depth with a post suggesting Snapcaster Mage will be uncommon after the hype currently building around AER spoilers.

I'm guessing a Merfolk Tribal subtheme for Blue, there are too many uncommon fish that have artificially inflated prices.
Conspiracy makes me think that Wizards has learned their lesson about reprints. Problem is, if the EV is too high, retailers will just crack their boxes for singles and not sell packs. The solution is to sell Masters sets to retail stores as well as LGS', since Best Buy isn't exactly going to be cracking packs to break into the singles market.
I'm expecting the Zen fetches. They're never getting reprinted in Standard- the outcry over the Onslaught Fetches in Khans jacking up the format price ensured that.
I'm also betting on the Tron lands at common with new art (or 9E art) and proper borders, with a big mana theme in Green, using Sylvan Scrying and Ancient Stirrings.

So far they haven't learned, what with the packs being $10 again. Right now the only things left to see is how limited the print run will be and the reprints.

The issue with that is that cards would end in the hands of players, and not collectors, and that's a no-no for Wizards. You don't think they do this print run to increase entry into Modern or create a greater supply of out of print cards do you? They print this set for one reason: taking advantage of the compulsive gamblers that are Magic's biggest cashcow with the promises of popping a $120 card in their overpriced packs.

"I hope to have such a death... lying in triumph atop the broken bodies of those who slew me..."
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
They really need to stop pricing packs at 10 usd msrp. These sets never get drafted enough and the boxes seem to get eaten up by investors who love buying the print runs in giant lots via forklift.

I see Snapcaster as almost inevitable at mythic, but I am holding on to mine because if it is not in there I won't be able to rebuy. I could care less about Goyf, even another reprint won't bring him to a price I can justify, but I am watching Bob like a hawk, I have a self-imposed cap pee card and the SECOND it hits that, the playset is mine.
To the people asking for shocks or fetches, it's not going to happen. Shocks won't be reprinted for many years, the market is still flooded from RTR block. More importantly these sets don't have rare land cycles. I see getting Grove, a Nexus, maybe Mutavault or a couple manlands, I could see 5 even, but never a cycle

I concur with needing Goblin Guide, although definitely not at mythic, it should have been reprinted so many times now that it is going to follow along with Damnation as cards that should have been reprinted, but hasn't. I must disagree with Blood Moon at mythic as well. Yes, the effect is mythic worthy-ish, but in a limited environment the card is terrible, unless we have a lot of nonbasics, plus we need that price of it plummeting as much as possible. Unless a card is mythic worthy, like Lily V or Consecrated Sphinx, it really shouldn't be upgraded, although I'm sure they'll do it to Snapcaster Mage anyways.

I personally agree with you, but Wizards doesn't seen to care if a card feels mythic in one of these sets. neither Guide nor Moon does, but they are ifaik the most expensive red Modern cards. The have the demand to sell more packs than a Chandra. Goyf is not mythic worthy, it's almost vanilla and will not bea limited bomb, it was bumped to mythic for price. I agree that both need a lot more copies out there, the players need them, they have created a 'reserved list-lite' feeling in Modern, but Wizards only cares about pack sales with these sets, not the players one bit. It's a crappy thing to do, but the most in-demand red cards that will generate the most pack openings will be the mythics until such time as the shameless greed makes sales drop from people refusing to buy. I got Eye of Ugin when they reprinted, when it was banned I swore never to buy another pack. putting all of the value at mythic and banning the pricey rares is unsustainable, but it won't change for this release

I think reprinting Blood Moon at Mythic would mark the first time they increased the Rarity of a previously printed Modern Masters card. (not that there are manay overlaps between MM and MM15) They printed it at Rare the first time around. If they print it again, it would make sense they would adhere to their previous decision of keeping it Rare.
You all do realize that not a single card that has been printed in a set with mythics has been upticked towards mythic, right? Here are the rarity shifts in MM2 in the Mythic/Rare area:
In fact, one of the priciest cards they reprinted (Noble Hierarch) stayed as a rare. Same for things like Spellskite. So no, cards like Goblin Guide/Snapcaster Mage won't be Mythic-printed. Damnation, however, could be.
As for uncommons/commons: It did have rares shifted down to common/unc status (Such as Eldrazi Temple) but no Uncommons to Rare, so there's that as well. Commons and Uncs shifted back and forth a bit to suit the draft format.
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
Why? They are still below 10$ each. Enemy fetches with prices up to 50$ for Scalding Tarns are a problem, but why shocks?
Edit: If you have enough money to buy a Modern Masters 2017 pack for 10$ and are hoping for a shockland in it, why don't you just buy them individually for around 10$ each?
For a healthy game, the biggest thing has always been lands. I think people are willing to spend $20 for a good creature, but asking more than $10 for basic functions to play the game is too steep. Shocks and fetches should never be more than $5.

Thank you for this. Too many people constantly complain that Wizards is going to upshift rarity on random expensive cards like they do it all the time, but they have yet to do this even once.
Everyone complaining about "the most complex vanilla imaginable" explain as simply as possible why I can't kill it with bolt while it's a 2/3 but no instants are in the graveyard. Yah it's basically a vanilla.

Mind, a good amount of the ill will directed at Wizards over the Masters series also has to do with how Eternal Masters was handled, even if it is a different product line than MM. EM did have Shardless Agent upgraded, which, in conjunction with Inquisition of Kozilek's upshift in CN2, doesn't rule out rarity increases in MM. Of course, whether the other two reprint sets are indicative of MM3 remains to be seen.

While this is true, it should be noted of EMA that Shardless Agent and Baleful Strix never saw a release in actual booster packs. Admittedly, some other upticks (Control Magic!) were less well done.
Even so, the upshift to Mythic isn't something we've seen yet except from cards that haven't been printed when Mythic rarity was a thing.

One issue with Shardless Agent was that it was in the same set as Bloodbraid Elf and yet one got a rarity bump while the other stayed the same. They are so similar in power that it was just baffling why one was considered far more special than the other.
A game with cheap creatures and pricey lands is healthier than one with cheap lands and pricey creatures. If I own a playset of fetches and shocks, the only thing stopping me from switching from Jeskai to Jund is how expensive Goyf, Lili, and Bob are. If Goyfs, Lillis, and Bobs were cheap, I could sink $500 into lands and have the potential to own nearly every Modern deck.
Mind you, Zen fetches and Cavern are still far too expensive, but they're more justifiable as investments than Bob or Goblin Guide because of the range of decks they let you play.
For a healthy game, the biggest thing has always been lands. I think people are willing to spend $20 for a good creature, but asking more than $10 for basic functions to play the game is too steep. Shocks and fetches should never be more than $5.
There's no "should." Cards cost what people will play for them. Good lands fit into more decks that most creatures, therefore they have higher demand.
Fortunately, shocks and allied fetches have been reprinted in high-volume sets recently, so if you don't mind the new art (I actually prefer it) prices are at an all-time low. I don't see cause for complaint here.
Agreed, when Zen fetches are reprinted, they will settle around 15$ each (after rotation) Probobly sink as low as 10 (B/W, R/W) or as high as 20 on the blue fetches.
If cavern was cheap I would totally just build janky tribal decks (allies) in modern, vampires is a bit pricey because bloodghast is a good magic card..... But still.
