Esper Zombies would be cool, even if they just give us an Esper colored Zombie (regardless of it's other types) so we can include all the cool UB zombies from the past with the new W ones from Amonkhet
Green is also a very attractive colour for zombies with its dredge mechanics.
Maro often says that Dragons and Angels always top the tribe polls so I'd be surprised if we didn't see those. Both have plenty of cards to print and haven't seen a commander product before (though I guess they've had some duel decks and FTV stuff). Angels might be hard to expand beyond white though which is a knock. Dragons will obviously be base red but there's plenty of dragons in other colors and support they could toss in.
Slivers seems like a good choice. It's a perennial fan favorite and this would be an easy way to bring them back without having to shoehorn them into a standard set.
Zombies or vampires is possible but both have seen a lot of print in normal sets recently. Elves haven't had too much since Zendikar but there's already the mono green commander deck. I could see something like fairies or merfolk. Neither has all that much support but are close enough that they could probably make the few new cards they need.
Basically I think Dragons are very very likely, slivers are pretty likely, and then maybe Angels and something else that spreads out the colors.
The issue I've with said popular tribes is that they tend not to print fatties in normal sets. I hope to see new tribe cards with bigger casting costs, bigger stats and bigger effects.
Many of the elves, humans, zombies, etc are smallish, tons of tokens; i.e. not really reflecting Commander. I hope they explore more spaces other than their linear fashion.
And please bring Tribal type back. It's the one product where you can introduce it back! C'mon Wizards!
I'm really excited for a good black tribal general. I don't care what anyone says, the current ones all suck. Jarad and Skullbrial are decent but they don't actually have any tribal synergy outside of the subtype.
Gisa and Geralf make a great UB Zombie commander, personally.
I guess. I kinda forgot about them. Imo they aren't great but to each their own. I would like them more if they were zombies themselves and if they didn't feel like almost strictly worse Meren and Karador
Here's an interesting possible connection: In one of the C16 design articles, the Saskia deck was initally designed as Warrior Tribal, as an example of things they tried before deciding on the "faction identities" they did. So, if that was the case, why did Saskia become a Soldier unless they wanted to save the "warrior commander" slot for the next expansion? It's possible it's unrelated, but it's an interesting connection.
The biggest thing for me is that they somehow try and Expand the color pie of each tribe, but do so in a way that makes it unique and still fitting within the tribe. Here are my ideas:
WGB Elves - Lorwyn had GB Elves, and Shadowmoor had GW Elves, so how about an Abzan Elf Commander? Seems plausible, fits well with tokens/counters/lifegain/resilience. Elves are also one of the oldest and most popular tribes.
GUB Elves - Taking elves in a different direction since Leovold, Emissary of Trest. Blue has access to some weird Simic Elves, and more synergy with card draw and +1/+1 counters.
WGB Treefolk - Doran, the Siege Tower could make an interesting reprint if they decided to go for Treefolk here. Similar to elves, they would play into the lifegain/resilience aspect, but also be more focused on big creatures that have huge toughness.
WGUB Spirits - From Kamigawa to Innistrad, we have a lot of Spirits in these colors floating around. Although we just had four color commander decks last year, I think a four color Spirit Lord would be really, really awesome in these colors. Lots of tempo plays, reanimation, lifegain, draw... It seems like it could be fun.
BRG Goblins - Ahh, the wild little buggers easily fit into these colors. Shattergang Brothers nodded to this idea, along with the RG Goblins from Shadowmoor and the RB Goblins from Lorwyn. Goblins have always been a tribal deck that had trouble in Commander (from my experience) Because of the drive to want to go mono red, or RB, which are arguably the weakest colors in Commander. Maybe changing it up to Jund colors could help give Goblins some more utility and power.
WUB Merfolk - Another odd tribe for Commander, but another powerhouse outside of it. Adding black and white to a Merfolk deck gives them some interesting spells and makes this more of a "Wizardy" deck.
BUG Zombies - Zombies are another popular tribe, and do appear in Commander. Zombies are centered in black, but are now stretched into URG and even W with Amonkhet. I'm not sure what direction they will take with this one, but I'm sure it will be fun.
BRU Vampires - Definitely centered in RB, but could easily add U or W even. Another very interesting choice that could help make Vampire decks arise in Commander.
UB Faeries - Everyone's favorite tiny pests. They were a menace during Lorwyn, and I would love to see them come back and stretch their power into Commander. Probably a pretty controlling deck.
BRG Dragons - Dragons have popped up in all five colors of Magic, despite their Red core, and everyone loves Dragons. Even though we have a decent amount of Dragon Commanders, I would still love to see a new Jund Dragon General that simply smashes face with huge Dragons. There would be a lot of cool opportunities here.
WBRG Warriors - "Come out and play!" Everyone wished Saskia was a Warrior (Idk how she was a "Soldier" to be honest), and now is WotC chance to make this Warrior Tribal finally come alive.
WB Knights - Knights have always been fun cards, usually centered in white, but also having that whole "Black Knight" theme going alongside it. It would be cool to finally see this Stillmoon Cavalier General of Knights come together to form a very aggressive deck!
WB Clerics - There's a lot of support here already, and Clerics are a pretty fun deck to play as it stands.
GRW Beasts - Naya's Behemoths could finally be a force to be reckoned with. Beast tribal could be really fun here with a lot of huge creatures that trample over your enemies.
WUBRG Elementals - Horde of Notions returns! With friends! Hopefully. Although Slivers are the most "Five Color" tribe I can think of aside from Elementals, I do think that they aren't necessarily the most interesting tribe to bring back and add more cards to. A five color Elemental deck seems like a lot of fun, and gives WotC to try some more five color legends.
Well, I'll throw mine in as well -
Slivers WUBRG
Wizards WUBRG
Elementals WUBRG
Phyrexians WUBRG (the unexpected one)
I mean how else would you do 5 color decks? Then they could say they did 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 /5 color decks. Also, I think you could say each of these tribes is 'popular' or 'interesting'.
Though I really would want a squirrel themed deck.
Though I really would want a squirrel themed deck.
I was just about to say, watch the unexpected one be something like Squirrels.
Other interesting ideas for Unexpected:
Shapeshifters - with a legendary Changeling Shapeshifter.
Advisors - Because who doesn't love guys who buy and tax their way through the fight?
Saprolings - Featuring all the Treefolk, Fungus, Plants, and whatever other wild cards make these cute little dudes.
Atogs - Idk how or why but its possible.
Spiders - Because everyone secretly wants that GBR Spider.
Horrors - Could easily be a sweet "Cthulhu" deck.
My big consideration is that these decks do show up in "Big Box" stores. So I anticipate a Sliver, Ally, Cephalid, or other "MTG Specific" deck to be a no-go since it lacks resonance and broad appeal.
Conversely, I think at least one of Angels and Dragons is a slam-dunk inclusion; fun in Commander, casually relevant, looks great on a store shelf. If we go by popularity I anticipate Humans, Goblins, and Zombies as the front-runners for the other slots. My hope from there is that we get UR Goblins with an artifact and spells matter theme, including an Artificer commander for UR (that also happens to be a goblin).

On the "cultural resonance" front though, and considering Gavin's love of Kamigawa and Japanese culture...maybe we could get Mardu Samurai or Grixis Ninjas? That would be pretty sweet.

Here's hoping for one of the decks to be Myr. Just toss that onto the "never-gonna-happen" pile. Hopefully a WUB Zombie commander will be a thing though. That doesn't seem too far-fetched.

Nice. There are quite a few tribes that don't yet have a decent commander to bring the tribe together.

Just my thoughts
I just realized that neither of those Trees is a treefolk. WTF?
