I don't actually even play Magic any more, but between replacing promo cards with tokens and reducing the number of published decklists, these are some really mindbogglingly obviously bad decisions WotC has been making recently. I'm genuinely confused.

I didn't see the reduced publish decklist thing at first. That's one of the strangest things they've done in a long while.
Reducing prizes, yet again, is also befuddling. Sure a land is sometimes better than some of their choices, but to go lands/tokens only is crazy. Unless that token is one we have never seen before it's pretty bunk.
This month FNM failed to fire due to the poor promo card. The next two months many people have stated they were planning on attending due to the better promo card. Now our group chat has gone to well FNM is dead with literally no one wanting to play for a token. We are now looking for ways to combine the sat and Friday tournaments into one prize pool so that people turn up to at least one tournament. Also no one here is interested in standard so it will likely end up modern etc. The store own rang wizards to complain about the change and got the cold shoulder. I'm expecting stores to dodge results in order to combine these two events as they are caring less about wizards rules when they get treated like crap. All they needed to do was just use the best commons and commons for FNM prizes with good art and then people will turn up.
"These changes are the results of feedback from players and stores across the globe"
I want names.
I want to know who in his sane mind told them "screw foil promo, we want flipping tokens. (get it? cos they flip)

I would hardly say that tokens are better promos. FNM promos were one way they could reprint needed cards but I guess they are cutting that now. They can spin this any way they want, the reason is pretty obvious. They want you to buy more of their reprint sets.

Not exactly happy with this. I liked the foil double-sided tokens, and I like that this will make them more available, but they are a poor substitute for FNM promos. On the bright side, I can afford to miss a few tournaments each month now now.

My decks
Standard - RIP Cat
Modern - Death & Taxes
Commander - Mazirek, Trostani, Angry Omnath
I'm not a fan of this change to the FNM promos. For one it drives my incentive to play the standard format into the ground because my reward for paying higher prices for singles that have a short shelf life is that much further reduced. Secondly, old FNM primos that were extra were an ice nod of value to LGS owners, like the PtE one. I'm sure Push will be the same thing. If I'm not going to my LGS to play, because this is quickly approaching table top level of interest locally due to the standard debacle...then I'm not buying product. This hurts my LGS by probably lowering foot traffic.
The foil lands are awesome and I am highly interested...but the quantity is going to be scars either in my area which means I need to pay a premium. Furthermore, I'm not interested in the showdowns...the turn out for them is horrible and I can't play on weekends often due to travel. Personal gripe, but I've built my schedule around playing on Friday nights for the last few years.
It feels like they're driving newer players to FNM and gutting rewards to deincentivize enfranchised players to stop the feel bads of getting crushed by tunes decks. The standard showdown being the next "step" where the crowd gets more competitive and has slightly better rewards in promo packs and free packs for wins or whatever the LGS does. This only works in an environment where new players are competing against new players. If the rewards still include packs/store credit/ any promo then better players may still gravitate to compete in all events. So now it's just perpetuated feel bads all around it seems.
After almost 25 years they should really have a better handle on this by now.
my group of friends and I go to FNM only every now and then, but we've actually started building the best standard decks that we can and we are going to practice a lot to attend every FNM when fatal push is up for grabs. THAT is how you bring people in.
this is going to make FNM attendance plummet.
it makes NO sense. I really can't get my head around this

Haven't posted in a while but, maaan! Some of the people in charge at Wizards seem to have completly lost their minds. At my LGS, the presence is going down due to all the banings and bad decisions in the last couple of months. Even so, many said they will come at the FNMs just for a foil Fatal Push. Do you know how many people will come back for a foil token? None! Zero! Nada!
I hope all this uprage in the comunity will determine Wizards to realise that this is a huge mistake and they should bring back nice promos on the lines of BBE, Kitchen Finks, Path to Exile, Serum Visions, etc etc...because, you know what, Wizards? If we're not tempted to come to a FNM, we'll stay at our friendly kitchen table and you win nothing!
If they want to kill Magic, they're doing a great job. If they want to save Magic: 1. Stop making foolish mistakes! 2. Stop baning everything in standard and think more before releasing a card! 3. Start unbaning cards in modern! 4.Make FNM great again! (Pun intended :))...).
Cheers!

It's like marketing has a random idea and thinks, "this is great!" so they execute without any common sense whatsoever.
"Oh hey, we have 100 comments that people like foil tokens. Let's make those promos from now on! We are so smart!"
Do they even play mtg? When was the last time any of these fools went to a store and SPOKE TO THE PEOPLE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE CATERING TOO?!?

They do now have a new team to test new cards before release, but man! You are so right!

To be fair people were complaining about the promos, although because they were terrible for the format most were playing to get them, not because they were there.
I agree that I'd love to see who was telling them to get rid of Standard promos or replace them with lands and tokens.
It's mind boggling how they misinterpreted "bad promos" with getting rid of them altogether and completely ignored the "wow, give us more of these promos" when actual good ones came around.
I did get a reply to my email to Wizards and I wanted to share it. It doesn't mean a lot as it is a pretty standard form letter, but figured I would let everyone know what I received back in case anyone else wants to compare it to the response they got. One note that I thought was amusing was that the rep mentioned giving them a call at the number in their signature, but no number is listed:

What I don't get is how Wizards jumped from putting foil double-faced tokens in every prerelease kit, to replacing FNM promos with them -- especially after they just started getting the card selections right (Unlicensed Disintegration, Aether Hub, Renegade Rallier, Fatal Push...)
What they should have done if they were really looking to find a way to get those foil tokens to players, PUT THEM IN THE PRERELEASE KITS LIKE YOU DID BEFORE.
Do these changes coincide with Hasbro's quarterly earning announcements? It sure feels like that they "cheap out" the promotional program materials just in time to increase the company's earnings, so they can tell the stock analysts that they hit or exceeded their numbers for the quarter or year.
I don't even play Magic actively right now, but I view these changes as reducing expenses.
I looked through all the comments. Literally one person seemed content with the tokens. MTGS can't form that kind of unified front for anything. That level of universally negative feedback will surely force them to quit with promo tokens. Nobody minds for promo tokens to exist, but everyone here agrees that they don't want them over actual cards.
I didn't see the reduced publish decklist thing at first. That's one of the strangest things they've done in a long while.

If you would give tokens in ADDITION to the promo everyone and i mean EVERYONE would be pleased.
This way it just creates a bottomless pit of hate and agony ... not even funny ...
