I hope Ugin stays colorless. But WotC gives Commander players just about everything they ever wish for so he will probably be 5 colors.

Okay, wotc, Bolas themed EDH deck coming up. Going to have only cards that reference, depict, or quote him + any “allies” like tezz, lili. Definitely wont be competitive, but the vorthos deck builder in me can’t not.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
A 4/4 Bolas feels really weird.
CMC 4 Bolas feels really weird.
Considering that Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire and Nicol Bolas, the Ravager both seem to be part of a cycle of 6/6 dragons for CMC 6, everything above feels really weird.
I don't like that they forced these changes just to implement a flip-version of Nicol Bolas. (I bet R&D submitted it 6/6 for 6 but Development tweaked it..)
I like him but I won't replace my God Pharaohs with these..maybe try a mix of both and see how it goes. (Fwiw, the art also seems a bit borderline to me but that's completely subjective. )
Ajani seems pretty damn good in any Cat deck I can think of..wow. Gonna be build a G/W cat deck for my daughter at some point. This looks perfect.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

In the first story, it says Bolus is a runt so a 4/4 compared to a 6/6 would make sense. Now if they added a few lines to the story to accommodate a change from development could be possible.
New Bolas seems decent in EDH. Free cad advantage and if he flips, the walker is nasty.
Ajani would be at least slightly interesting for standard if white weenie or tokens were good. Unfortunately for both of those decks, Goblin Chainwhirler is very, very good.

The artwork on Nicol Bolas, the Ravager is quite unusual as it has bright colors, green rolling hills, and a sort of rainbow flavor to it.
If you didn't know anything about the card/Nicol Bolas, you'd probably say it was a blue/white/green creature. Definitely not Grixis. For some reason this attracts me to the card more.

I'm sure its meant to invoke newness, a fresh start, a beginning. Very fitting for a new "Elder" Dragon that has fallen to "Earth" and is seeing things for the first time. He hasn't had time to become corrupt yet. Then the flip side shows that. Good design and flavor.

Does this mean that M19 has more DFCs? Or would they actually do one single DFC in a set?
In all coresets Ajani is in he is number 01. Here he is 03, that means we could get up to 2 colorless cards
DFC = double faced cards, like Bolas.
Colorless slot, Ugin is the twin of Nicol Bolas....
... do you actually not see that both your replies have absolutely no relation to my posts? I´m asking about the likelyhood of more double faced cards, figuring that since they are using the print technology in the set, they might want to jam some more of them in there... and you´re answering it with something about colorless cards, card numbers before Ajani and the relationship lore of Bolas/Ugin. Am I missing something?

What he's probably trying to say is that Ugin might be a DFC in this set, because he's an Elder Dragon planeswalker who's Bolas's twin.
That would be cool. I'd like if Ugin's card had a WUBRG ability so he can be played with Morph cards in all colors. He's effectively the father of all Dragons on Tarkir, it only makes sense for him to have a connection to WUBRG.
"WUBRG: Put the top five cards of your library onto the battlefield face down. They're 2/2 creatures. If any of those cards are creature cards, you may turn them face up at any time for their mana cost."
To get him 5color they could simply mirror/copy Bolas's sparking trigger and have Ugin as "WUBRG: Blah transform blah." His planeswalker abilities could cover the Dragonstorms and manifest and such.
Upside: is 5 color.
Downside: is 5 color.
Well, MaRo torpedoes the speculation of a DFC Ugin. Per Blogatog:
spiritkhan asked: Is Nicol Bolas the only DFC in M19?
kmalsom asked: Since you stated (I believe) that M19 has 5 planeswalkers and a flip version of Nicol Bolas was revealed. Does this mean that there are 4 other planeswalkers, or does he not count as one of them since he is a legendary character?
Core 2019 has five planeswalkers *plus* Nicol Bolas.
Which means 1 of 3 things:
1)Ugin doesn't get a card in Core 2019; which feels really odd for a set that's supposed to tell the backstory of the conflict between the two.
2) Ugin's card is from his pre-planeswalker creature days; which also feels odd, but less so than him not getting a card at all.
3) MaRo's just obfuscating to avoid spoilers and Ugin gets a standard PW card in Core 2019, and if/when asked about it later he'll reply "5 planeswalkers plus Bolas PLUS Ugin."
7 mana to flip Bolas, Sorcery speed, and the Exile is part of the effect? I think that's how you set yourself up for a blowout.
*emphasis mine
The way DFC Planeswalkers have always worked they MUST exile themselves, otherwise they never etb as a planeswalker, have zero loyalty and die immediately.
They would have to reword the transform trigger to something like:
<cost>: Put <#> loyalty counters on CARDNAME and transform <him/her/them/it>.
Which would just cause confusion with their printed loyalty number.
*Note that this doesn't apply to Garruk or Arlinn DFCs, as both are planeswalkers on both sides so always have loyalty counters.
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.
Bolas is 30 dollars at starcity games... Why? Bolas is a one format card(EDH). The flip requirement is way too high for standard/modern and the etb isn't that great.
Training Grounds can turn this into a turn 5 very powerful planeswalker.
I have a question, what happens to transform cards when they get turned face-down or face-up by some other effect?
Transform and turning a card face-up or face-down are considered by the rules to be completely different actions. They can be manifested and cast face-down (if a hypothetical DFC had morph), but a DFC permanent can't be turned face-down by something like Ixidron.
711.9. If an effect allows a player to cast a double-faced card as a face-down creature spell, or if a double-faced card enters the battlefield face down, it will have the characteristics given to it by the rule or effect that caused it to be face down. That card remains hidden, using either a face-down checklist card or opaque sleeves. See rule 707, “Face-Down Spells and Permanents.”
711.9a While face down, a double-faced permanent can’t transform. If it is turned face up, it will have its front face up.
711.10. Double-faced permanents can’t be turned face down. If a spell or ability tries to turn a doublefaced permanent face down, nothing happens.

Cards that have people buzzing before the release are always given ridiculous price tags like that. It's nothing but people speculating on the hype.
He's not bad, really. A 4/4 flier for 4 is decent and he has a relevant upside of forcing a opponents to discard a card. I just don't think grixis wants him right now, and 30 dollars is kind of a rip off for a card that will likely only see play after rotation in standard. The 5 drop dragon that browbeats the opponent is probably stronger since it's effectively got a form of haste on it. I would say I wish they printed Thundermaw Hellkite, but given how powerful red is right now that's probably not a good idea.

I have a question as to the wording on the card. For the transformation, it says 'return HIM'. This seems an inconsistency - aren't cards supposed to be referred to as 'it' or by their name rather than their sex? Not that I actually care, it just seemed odd.
Planeswalkers, unlike every single other card in the game, seem to get referred to by gender, for some reason. See, for example: Sarkhan the Mad's first ability or Liliana's Defeat.

The "it" wording wasn't until Dominaria came out, so not really inconsistent.

I think it fits when it's for a specific characters.

All cards, besides planeswalkers, are referred to as "it"s, even when that card depicts a specific character. (I.E. a legendary creature) It's been that way since at least the Weatherlight saga, when WotC started being more consistent with card syntax. Dominaria didn't change anything; you're thinking of the change to the pronouns used for players, not cards.
