I really don't understand why they just didn't make it exile a permanent of converted mana cost 1 or less. Surely it would have been a damn sight more useful and could at worst be used to kill tokens.
Because 1 mana instant Stone Rains are, how do i put it, BROKEN
LOL Yeah. I think Meteor Golem could do without the "nonland" clause, but once you get into reasonable mana costs, you have to be careful how much land destruction you have. (I'd like to see them put generic land destruction at 4 and specifically nonbasic land destruction at 3. Mostly for "you did it to yourself" reasons.)
"Or less" would make this instant speed land exile (which matters a lot in Commander) in a color not generally known for land destruction. (Basically, white gets Armageddons. They don't print that effect very often anymore, because it's hard to balance.)
More or less this is just a white Mental Misstep and will be played as such. Probably not as broken because it still costs mana.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
What baffles me is how many of you care about limited for a core set. In my opinion Core sets should NEVER be designed with limited in mind. The whole point of a core set is to allow the format to have a ton of non-plane related answers to threats. It's the opportunity to print cards that they cannot print in other sets. Limited should be at the bottom of the design list for this sort of thing.
It's rare because otherwise too many would be opened in "limited". It's not a great card for that format, but this thing is a powerhouse. It hoses a ton of problematic cards in older formats.
Short list of cards this answers:
Aether vial
Goblin Guide
Swiftspear
Sol Ring
Top
Pithing Needle
1 mana planeswalkers *ahem*
Almost all of the problematic enchantments in bogles
It's a super versatile removal that requires very little investment, has no drawback and it's an instant to boot.
I think a lot of you need to step out of your bubble for a minute and appreciate what this does.
Do you know many people complained about how much a "crap rare" Stony Silence was when it was spoiled? Can you imagine a world without it now?
You think I'm in the minority here? I'm part of the community of magic players who spend a TON per set. I'm not strictly a spike. I'm the kind of guy they WANT business from. When I say that I would prefer them making a set that creates a healthy playing environment at the expense of limited, it means i'll spend more money. It's pretty basic, really.
Some cringe worthy self entitlement here. I have no idea why you think WotC WANTS business from you in spite of limited players. It doesn't matter how much you spend or who you know, sets are not designed for you specifically to spend money.
People should really understand the fact that as consumers you are nothing but rounding error in the great scheme of things
My inner Spike is telling me "Man this card is missing the words "or less" However the more rasonal side of me is saying hey its still soild sideboard stuff for legacy/vinatage.

Yeah, it would have been sweet if it could take out moxen and tokens. It would have to say "non-land", and I don't think it would break anything.
Yeah, there are really a lot of problematic 1’s floating out there that this deals with the most effective way possible. It’s narrow, but it’s a homerun when it’s hitting it’s targets.
Printed a cheap way to deal with Sensei's Divining Top, now unban it please... Granted the top player can often play around it but hey, it's some kind of hate.

I think everyone is thinking that. Well nonland permanents or non basic land permanents.
It hits Vial, birds, Goblin Guide, lantern of Insight, Pithing Needle, etc. I like it as a sideboard option along with the new one mana black card that kills colorless targets.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
