Plenty of magical items for an equipment subtheme, and of course they were consummate sailors (but then, the Greeks were no slouch there, and that was almost completely omitted from Theros), so ships could also see a return.
Vehicles weren’t a thing when Theros was released. Any return to it would definitely have some in the set since Vehicles and Equipment can exist in the same sets with no problems.
Apparently as many as they can to sell flavor. They’ve been pushing flavor more than gameplay lately. Which is problematic because gameplay is suppose to trump flavor. The fact they are so happy to point out that its fall on Ravnica, like its the biggest selling point, when it has no importance to gameplay is telling that they dont really know how to design the game anymore.

I think Pirates have too much of a distinct look to slap the type on Vikings. People would look at a Viking with the type of Pirate and be like "Whuh? But it's a Viking, not a Pirate." Warrior, you could get away with. Vikings are basically Warriors with horned helmets, as far as popular imagination is concerned. If Mummies can be Zombies with bandages, Vikings can be Warriors with horns.
Rather than focus Vikings on tribal though, I'm thinking they would be built around the Raid mechanic. That way Warriors and Berserkers can play comfortably in the same deck.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
I would also suggest that this thread be moved to speculation.
Death in combat would make a lot of sense. Something like "Glory- When this creature dies as a result of combat damage, EFFECT". Or something that refers to them returning at Ragnarok in the form of a recursion mechanic.
I'd enjoy a legendary places and items theme. Everything is named from the necklace Brísingamen to Hlidskjalf, the throne of Odin (from which all can be seen). Things like Hel, Muspelheim, and even Bifrost, and Yggdrasil among many others can be represented in legendary lands (some of which could be snow).
So after butchering Greek mythology with derivative names and ugly art direction, WOTC is now going to kitschify Norse myth too.
yeej..
FYI, it's inspired by Greek Mythology. They've said multiple times that it isn't 1:1. Color pie and worldbuilding required some liberties, like making the "Zeus" of the plane a sun god rather than a storm god. What, were they supposed to just use the original names and retain all the references to bestiality and rape? After Arabian Nights, they've decided they want to stay away from adapting existing properties wholesale (barring a few siblingbrandtie-ins) and give themes their own spin instead, hence why we have Edgar Markov and Innistrad rather than Dracula and Transylvania.
My main gripe about Theros is that sometimes the Minotaurs look more like Orcs or Ogres with horns than bull men. What's with the neck horns? Other than that, I have no major complaints. Amonkhet is the topdown theme that's disappointed me most so far. I was so looking forward to Egyptian catfolk. I guess it's possible some might be eking out survival in the desert beyond Naktamun's walls? The mummies delivered, though. Probably my favorite part of the whole set, in fact.
As long as these following items are met in the Norse set, I'll be satisfied:
Dwarf Tribal (preferably RW, though I would also welcome some black Dwarves to represent their greed)
Elf Tribal (either GW or BG)
Ice and fire Giants (a UR tribe obviously)
Dragons (they could try splitting these into ice and fire categories too; maybe make the duality of ice and fire a big part of the setting?)
At least five Gods, preferably more (maybe even some uncommon legendaries, if the set has room for a theme like Historic)
Equipment based on weapons like Mjolnir, Gungnir, and Gram
Vikings, of course
I'd be happy to see Snow return, but I know it's more an if than a when, and thus won't be as high priority. I could certainly see it fitting into a Norse set though. I see Raid returning as the Viking mechanic, and I could see there being some focus on creatures dying in combat as well. Wolf Tribal would be cool, but it's not as high a priority for me as Dwarf and Elf tribal.

I found Theros to be really wonderful. A very charming adaptation to Greek Myth. I do believe some improvements can be made, but overall, it was excellent. I don't understand what people wanted beyond what Theros delivered?
Amonkhet on the other hand was indeed disappointing.

If we go to Theros with vechieles, I better see some Spartan ships and Apollo’s Chariot! I’d love to see more Spartan based themes in the set (unless that’s what they intended with Heroic).
If this thread isn't moved to Speculation because the mods know something about its validity, I wish they'd share that information or at least confirm it so that this thread still being open here would look less stupid.

The thread is not being moved because the opening post doesn't say "I reckon that there should be a Norse set" but "I've been told there will be a Norse set", hence its a rumour and not a speculation

I'm guessing there'd be a (light?) Legendary theme as the Norse favoured their heroes (Hersir) and prolific characters. In the game Age of Mythology, the Norse regimen were very combat based. You gained divine favour through combat rather than through monuments (Egpytian) or temples (Greeks).
So that sort of supports and provides a good basis for the previous combat-based death mechanic someone mentioned earlier on this thread. I know a PC game isn't a direct correlation to this but it does provide insight on how they could essentially build the set mechanics and themes.

Could Raid be focused in GUR, and the death in combat effect be RWB? Assuming DIC isn't just the WB subtheme. There's also the prospect of an Einherjar-inspired mechanic akin to Unearth or Embalm.

Or they could go the Theros route and let Viking appear in all the colors.
I wonder what the characteristic and iconic races could end up looking like on a Norse world.

Green and White are strong maybes, with Blue being a probably not.
They should absolutely be in U, they were seafaring people after all with their longboats. I would put the vikings in URG
But stereotypical Vikings are not really Blue from a philosophical sense. They do not care about learning, academics, books, trickery, plotting, subtly, passivity, etc.
But I totally get the idea of Blue = Water and vikings used water to do their viking stuff.
If not GUR, then I would put Vikings in BRG. We got RWB Raid in KTK and UBR Raid in Ixalan, so Norse World could give us BRG Raid.

What if vikings receive the same treatment as the allies received in Zendikar?
We can have viking in all colors, and we can get a human pirate viking, a dwarf viking, a elf shaman viking, etc.
