That would imo be too much of a change to the fundamentals of Ravnica. Besides, we already have Tarkir and Alara as the three-color faction planes, and Maro keeps saying that three-color sets are hard to design, so there are unlikely to be more.
Currently Tarkir is a 2-color 5-tribes plane, unless there is a resurgence of the old clans. Alara only has the shards, while Ravnica could have the wedges.
Remogving the guilds would remove what makes Ravnica... well... Ravnica, but that wouldn't be the first time either: Mirrodin was changed to New Phyrexia, we saw Dominaria in a post apocalyptic state aster the invasion, Lorwyn and Shadowmoor returned to be a single thing ecc...
We will just have to wait and see.

The clans were liked more than the dragons, so any return to Tarkir will likely feature the clans. Enough seeds have been planted to make it possible, notably the frame of the Bolas story from the last core set. And Ravnica is the most popular plane, changing its fundamental characteristic is highly unlikely.
Interesting how they have Kaya in with Gideon, Teyo, and Chandra. Does that mean that Kaya switches sides and joins the Gatewatch...

From the art book and players guide, we learn Kaya was hired by Bolas to kill the ghost counsel and then he forced her to take over after she was done.

Well all the Planeswalkers are trapped in Ravnica the moment Bolas appears with the Immortal Sun and an undead army. So I think she should be pissed. She most likely doesn't know anything about Bolas great planes.
With Teyo there are 3 partial White Walkers in the cover. Teyo has to be white. It makes the most sense for a shield mage, right? And we know white characters are the most likely candidate to get killed.

So there are three cards with "Shieldmage" in the name. Shieldmage Elder and Shieldmage Advocate are white and connected with the Otarian Order. Ethersworn Shieldmage is part-white and an Esperite. So none of this has anything to do with Teyo's world but if past is precedent, shieldmages are white mages. However... I can also easily see the concept being monoblue, especially if they're, seemingly, weather-mages.

Huh...would be a great time for a late-plot twist for a Bolas-aligned planeswalker revolt against their supposed "master" after he essentially holds them against their will.
I wonder if that's what will happen near the end of the written story. And it makes you wonder too why the release date is so close to the summer release of M20. Beginning of May? That's kinda close. (yes I realize that I think either Shadows or Amonkhet were delayed a bit but not by that much).

I don't doubt that a couple Planeswalkers may die, there are quite a few who didn't have the impact that Wizards had hoped they would, or straight up cannon fodder 'walkers that were never meant to be all that important. (Arlinn Kord, Huatli, Tibalt, forgetting a few that literally are forgettable.)
And if anything, we're definitely gonna lose some Ravnican legends. Sad
Tibalt is in the new Chandra comics that happens after War of the Spark, so he'll not kick the bucket, sorry.
Wait, you're saying the whole comic is a spoiler?
Yep. You can get the first comic now and it basically reads as aftermath.

I'm guessing that they waited so long to release issue #2 (scheduled to release at the end of March) so as not to spoil things too much for the main story.

I believe that as well. The release date schedule for issues 2-4 were slated for a much earlier release. #2 on IDW states it was December 2018, #3 is January 2019, #4 is February 2019, the graphic novel version (Issues 1-4) is for May 2019.
If the Gatewatch falters and the Planeswalkers fail, the curtain will fall on the age of heroes—and rise on the infinite reign of Nicol Bolas."
And this here is exactly why Bolas can't possibly win, or the rest of Magic will just be a series of postcard sets called 'Bolas visits Ixalan', 'Bolas visits Innistrad', 'Bolas visits Kaladesh' etc., each featuring a PW card called 'Bolas - God of [plane]', with art depicting him laughing maniacly against an assortment of backgrounds.
Not gonna lie I'd buy the heck out of "Bolas Visits Ixlan". That set would've been a lot more interesting if its cards featured Nicol Bolas shopping around, sunbathing at a Rootbound Crag, having a good time with how much smaller the dinosaurs are than him.

I think he can be the new UG walker, both blue and green always had the concept of magical protection (shroud before and hexproof now) and defensive effect (cards like Plaxmanta,Heroic Intervention,Dive Down,Blossoming Defense,etc...) so a character that shileds others and himself in an arcane way can be a way to show the non-white side of defense

"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again"
The UG part is interesting but I doubt it. I mean look at him. The magic is bright white. I know color isn't always an indicator but for the most time it is. He looks like a Mage a little bit like Docter Strange. I don't get any green vibes from him. UG protection seems to involve Slime, Water or Plants not Light. The mono Green protections often involve plants or just strength.
We get one sentence for his motivation and it just say that he wants to protect his people. This is a strong White/Green motive. I can't find any information, that shieldmages could manipulate the diamondstorms (weather) or even prevent, predict them. We don't know if the diamondstorms are really natural in his plane or have some magical origins. I imagine they build some kind of a Hekma to protect the people. This could lead to Blue/White (like in Amonkhet). He could be important against the army of Zombies if he can build something like the Hekma.
The words that he is wielding arcane energies let me thing that he could be something with blue. Maybe he is Bant?
"The stakes could not be higher."
Good joke, considering the plot armor most of the protagonists have. There's no way Wizards would hurt their "most popular" characters too much, not to mention all the hanging plot threads, and the same goes for the most popular plane. Hell, I doubt even Bolas will kick the bucket, they will probably want to reuse such a popular villain.
the most revolutionary thing that will happen (I think) will be that from 10 guilds we will have 5 (by fusing guilds in couples).
This will allow to have single sets for returning to Ravnica and shake up the flavour a little.
For as much as I love the 10 guilds, they were thought for a 3sets-block design and unless they want to spend at least 2 sets every time they return to Ravnica, some of the guilds must go.
Interestingly, this idea is almost certainly the only way to do "four color" guilds.
Define a pair of Ravnica Guilds as a Super Guild (SG).
To do 4 colors, each of the 5 Super Guilds must obviously be deficient by a different color (Not U, Not W, etc)
Furthermore, since it would be wonky to have some SGs be composed of two enemy guilds while others are composed of two allied guilds, we can assume that each SG would consist of one enemy guild and one allied guild.
It turns out there is exactly ONE combination that works in that case:
EDIT: and the combinatorics isn't as hairy as you'd think
Also, these would be easy to flavor
Gruul/Orzhov would become Druids (church of the wilds) or possibly early Christianity themed (gutter religion)
Selesnya/Izzet would be the individuated collective with its own creative power (Captain Planet) or something like the German philosophical concept of Geist
Dimir/Boros would be the Deep State (intelligence+military)
Rakdos+Simic would be body hackers
Azorius+Golgari would be the seizing of power from below (think Reign of Terror or Zombie dictatorship of the Proletariat)
Can't say if you are serious or just joking on it.
I personally don't think a 4-color guild system is a good idea, at least on a design standpoint. They had a hard enough time to make 5 4-color commander decks, imagine an entire set AND making it standard playable.
Just think at the broken mana-base they would have to push to make 4-color decks viable.
Interesting, previously people thought Teyo was a lady, guess he's just handsome and wears a robe.
The few white dudes they put on cards these days mostly look like a cross dresser at best lol
Such as?
The new Domri art looks like some teenage girl at a My Chemical Romance concert and that blue twin planeswalker from the multiplayer set I forget the name of is basically Brienne from Game Of Thrones but a man? lol. This new planeswalker too.
But to be honest, it's hard finding examples because there basically aren't any white dudes in any of the artwork anyway lel. Older sets were a nice mix of everything, but the newer sets are pretty blatant with the whole appeasing to political correctness. Oh well, the game is still fun.
They are painstakingly deliberate with distributing characters between ethnicities and genders. Count them and see, it's pretty bulletproof. White males are not underrepresented right now, you just perceive it to be so because the norm that you've become accustomed to, your mental calibration so to speak, is the overrepresentation of white males that has gone on in this and many other games for a very long time.
It's kind of like staring at a red sheet of paper for a long time, then peeling it away and looking at a white sheet of paper. It will look green. That doesn't mean that is in fact green, or that the white paper should be more red.
It's not your fault, it's just the way our minds work. But I advice you to try to keep up with the progress and break out from your own miscalibrated norm, you'll find life to be a lot less frustrating that way.
Yeah, three-color seems like the better option, I think flavor/story justifications for some "friend guild + enemy guild" type pairs would have to be really wonky. That being said, Alara and Tarkir exist. I'm not sure if WotC wants to eat away at them creatively and mechanically (as three-color block, like Maro has said countless times, are hard to do properly).

You don't have to apologise for off topic, it's not really that off topic. Don't worry about it
Can't see Ravnica ever moving away from the two-colour guilds. That's really it's shtick. I imagine Maro would say it was changing things just for the sake of changing things, and losing one of the most beloved aspects of the plane in the process.
That said, the term for a WUB deck recently changed from Esper to Orzorius in our household during Allegiance drafting, purely because it's a word that's hard not to pronounce in a ridiculously over-the-top, very long second 'OR' way
Especially since people were not of fans of Tarkir going from Wedges to Ally Pairs.
Besides if anything you expect Guilds to Form Wedges since we no longer have a plane with Wedges but a plane with Shards still exist.
So it be Wedges with the Ally Color as the Dominant.
Azorius + Izzet = Jeskai with Blue Dominate. Both groups like studying...
Dimir + Golgari = Sultai, with Black Dominant. Both groups like manipulating Death
Rakdos + Boros = Mardu, with Red Dominant. Both groups love their Violence.
Gruul + Simic = Temur, with Green Dominant. Both groups are pro Nature.
Seleseyna + Orzhov = Abzan, with White Dominant. Both groups are religious/spirtual.
Never say never in Magic, I know (poison counters used to be a probable Storm Scale 10), but multiple R&D members have said multiple times Ravnica's guilds are probably not going to become three-color by any means.
Yeah WOTC seems unlikely to make permanent changes to another plane. I mean Dominaria basically back to Normal the only change is Massive Thran Artifacts everywhere.
