Last year's commander product was a bit of a let down. Two of the decks didn't really do what WotC said they did, lands and top of the deck matters, and the reprints were a bit meh. Hopefully this year's can do something a bit new, like colorless.
To be fair, they labels they applied to them were bad. The Lands deck should just be called a Ramp deck and people would not have been angry. Top of the deck matters is exactly what the deck is but it just does it in a way that is different than what people imagined. Hopefully WotC changes strategies this year and just reveals the colors for each deck and does not apply a name to the decks' strategies.

We know the game better than them and it's our fault? They should now the best label to describe a deck.
Just announcing "we will make a green red deck, a black deck, a blue white red deck and a black white deck" would be really boring.
No need to change strategy just learn how to execute it

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
not sure why i should be hyped by this announcement
i mean, it tells us that they were going to release two products we already expected them to release, and nothing else.
in addition, with how bad last years oommander product was, this will be the first year ever where i don't preorder all of them and instead wait for a full a list, probably ordering singles instead

I think names often push people to jumping to conclusions. They envisage decks in their minds and are disappointed when the product does not match their dream.
Perhaps revealing the Commanders would be better? That way we get a clear indication of what the deck is doing but WotC still has a lot to reveal come preivew week.

They made announcements for M20 and C19 but more or less snuck War of the Spark under our noses. Wonder why they did that...
Probably because they announced it a year ago when they first revealed the 2 other Ravnica sets.
No they didn't. They told us we would have three Ravnica sets--two guild-centric sets in which they gave us the titles right away--with the third taking place on the plane but not guild-centric, with its name unknown. We only found out about the actual title by chance of a Tumblr referral prior to or during Allegiance's spoiling and release details after marketing materials in Allegiance product. No official announcement as C19 and M20 are getting now. Two very different instances here.
As a cube player, I look forward more to the release of Commander than most anything else: I may not play EDH, but they are much more bold in their designs than they are in Standard legal sets.
I wasn't crazy about the tribal decks, but Commander is usually pretty exciting. Core set 2020 on the other hand will doubtless produce little of interest.
I just thought of this. Core set 2020 comes out before Commander 2019. Think about it. Core set twenty twenty comes out before Commander twenty nineteen.
I wonder why they use next year for core sets, but this year for commander, especially when Commander is released a month after the core set.
I won’t get hype for C19 until we get full decklists. C18 was marketed as containing a higher value of cards to justify the price hike, but that was a flagrant lie. It was still pretty good value overall, but had lower value than every previous commander product iirc.
EDIT: That said, I hope they just do tribal. It’s harder to mess up and we still have several prominent tribes that could use better EDH support. Merfolk, beasts and werewolves immediately come to mind. I know we got pseudo-elf tribal with the Freyalise deck, but I want a GB elf tribal deck. GBW Elves, UGB or UGW Merfolk, GRU Beasts, RG Werewolves. Pls and thx.

Well there’s some hope it will be more like how they usually do in commander sets
Because Gavin Verhey (or whoever is piloting C19) that he/they infact heard are criticism/complaints about C18 and will take them to heart for this one (hopefully anyway)

Of the decks from last year, I would definitely say the most fun to play was the Saheeli Rai deck, and a lot of that fun was derived from the fact that it was - effectively - "artifact tribal".

It’s because it has to do with how long the set is available in standard. Core 2020 will be legal in 2020, and they felt it would be confusing for people (newer people) to use cards with an out of date year (and would hurt sales in that second year) if it seemed out of date.
I'd be interested in Commander cycles themed around a particular card type - like an artifact cycle with a RW Equipment deck in the mix - but we just got a general card types matter Commander cycle, so I doubt they're going to do such a cycle this year.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
It had potential to be cooler, but they kinda fumbled the Land theme. I like what they did with Artifacts and Enchantments, though. And Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow was a cool Ninja legend that played into the theme of the "top card matters" deck. It's mostly Gyrus and Thantis that were underwhelming.

They didn't promise more valuable reprints. Players assumed it would because of the msrp that was raised after the decks were finished. Wizards spent extra money on them sending copies to the rules committee repeatedly, though, to get them playtested by format experts. If they didn't care, would they have done that? They even flew in Sheldon to talk to him about it. Now, if you don't agree with the rules committee's vision, you don't have to, but don't expect wizards to try and stuff anything in the rules committee thinks is bad for the format like, say, stasis some people wanted last year or low costed land destruction that doesn't replace with basics.

Is this what people wanted? From what I remember most were more irritated by how Jund wasn't land matters as was promised, the reprints were lacking (and no, not Stasis) and/or had some huge misses, some of the new legendaries were incredibly weak and/or uninspired, about half PWs most didn't really care about, and the cost going up for a weaker product than most of the years before it. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the rules committee's vision.
It's mostly Gyrus and Thantis that were underwhelming.
I was the first one to complain about Thantis but honestly i prefer them rather than another Derevi or Prossh

Yeah i'd like to see quotes about people wanting stasis
Because they actually wanted soothsaying

They need to print more cards based on Dominaria plane that never printed on that block.
Like they did to Ajani's brother Jazal.
Hope to see Urza, Serra, Yagmoth, Lesrac
Lands like Benalia and etc.
More Saga
and legendary versions of famed planeswalker before they became planeswalkers
You know what, that would be awesome. There are so many characters and fabled planeswalkers that never had proper representation. I would also like to see more Mercadia too believe it or not.

Commander has no season, rotation, prolonged purchase period, or officially sanctioned tournament structure, so the same reasoning does not apply.

The land deck was the worst one none of the side commanders focused on land at all
And all of these are missed opportunity reprints for it
(I would say Oracle of Mul Daya but the price was way to high for it)
And the list goes on heck crucible of worlds could have Ben reprinted too since core 2019 was out before the commander set
I was the first one to complain about Thantis but honestly i prefer them rather than another Derevi or Prossh
They did though. On that stream where they talked about the (false)themes of the decks they said the higher price was to accommodate higher value.
