MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
What do you guys think about a birchlore rangers reprint. I think it would breathe some consistency in elves (weaker heritage druid for current builds) or variety in sideboard cards. I don't see it vaulting the deck up to the top tables anytime soon, but it would be a welcome addition. It seems like one of the weaker legacy pieces that could port over.
meh.
I'd rather have symbiote

To pump up value I'm anticipating that they will throw in Selvala, heart of the wilds, since she only spiked to her 50+ value recently so she would have been a good target for a mid tier product. She fits with an elf theme that can be pushed up by Wirewood Symbiote. I'm suspecting other types of moves with tribal as well, such as with soldiers and goblins. I do not see them doing much with Merfolk unless they are making a lot of new merfolk cards in the set.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
We’re about a week away from War of the Spark previews starting, and my mind is 100% on Modern Horizons instead. War basically has to give me things I never knew I wanted or hit my very narrow sweet spot.

In regard of True Name Nemesis, today the MTG distributer of the Netherlands sent all its LGS stores the official announcement they could now pre-order Modern Horizons. This mail came paired with a layout containing (slightly different?) art of, you guessed it, True Name Nemesis.
For something to do country-wide and internally from distributers, that seems either a very double-edged troll/joke, or a genuine upcoming reprint.
I hope it's just a coincidence or a joke, TNN would be incredibly frustrating to play against, that thing can only be answered by non-damage sweepers, which means only UW or Tron have ways to deal with it, GDS can yank it out of your hand before it hits the board but is nearly helpless against a topdecked one, and to make it even worse, it's blue of all freaking colors, so any deck that plays it will probably have counter backup for its nearly unkillable attacker and immortal blocker. I can't see any upsides of bringing TNN to Modern to be honest, there has to be another way to help Fish decks without bringing that pest in, leave it for multiplayer where it belongs.
TNN is completely broken in all non-multiplayer formats because the only way to get rid of it is with mass removal or by forcing a sacrifice in 1vs1. So I sincerely hope it is a joke.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

Arguably. TNN's clock is much slower than the speed most modern decks go in competitive lately.

TNN gets outclassed in the non interactiveness of modern. Thing in the ice bounces it, boggles races it, Tron goes bigger. The disruptive elements are different in modern the card is fine. Titan decks don’t care about it. I can go on. The disruption that the card is paired with doesn’t exist in modern. The card will be played but it won’t be the end of the world.
Edit: if you get hit by true name 5 times and can’t win by then. Your deck isn’t competitive anyway.
As for True-Name Nemesis I hope this isn't true, not because I think it will be too powerful in modern, but because it will be annoying. The last thing modern needs are more cards that are hard to interact with.
actually i doubt that true name nemesis would be a big deal in modern, it would probably just boost the merfolk decks. i do not see this going into grixis builds or anything like that (maybe in sideboards here and there?)
Like it was needed, Liliana's Triumphis the same, but potentially better, and Devour Flesh is almost the same thing.
To be fair I never meant that TNN was going to become a format-warping, ban-worthy card, the top decks can either outrace it or kill it/ignore it, however, I think bringing that into modern would stifle innovation and go against the stated goal of boosting tribal strategies in Modern as WOTC claims MH1 will do, sure, it would give Merfolk decks a boost but other tribal decks could be overshadowed by Merfolk, and let's not get into TNN in Limited...ugh, being a Rare or Mythic prevents it from becoming stupid in Draft, but it doesn't sound like fun either.
So if anyone wants an update seems like the suggested retail price might be close to $163. That's $4.53 a pack. Potentially. The price is starting to come out but nothing is for sale yet. I was told by my magic shop that price can change. He can't even place an order for it yet. Indication is that this should be priced closer to a regular booster box than a masters set. Since a regular booster box is supposed to retail at $144 or $4 a pack. Seems like they removed MSRP to specifically make more money for themselves. Forcing card shops to either raise prices or work on a slimmer margin.
That's not the SRP, that's the price retailers are paying to get a box. Unless the set is loaded with value, this whole thing is going to bomb big time. Like...Homelands or Fallen Empires-style bombing.
Have to wait and see where this hype train goes. I think the $200 price range might crash after release. As long as this information was accurate. It's hard to judge a list price when you can't actually buy it and a dealer can raise the price if they feel like it.
Retailers could ALWAYS raise the price of anything if they felt like it. MSRP was never a cap on prices. If the $200 per box price turns out to be too high (which is quite frankly ridiculous - if anything it's too low) then I hope you like buying singles instead of sealed product because no store that likes paying their bills will carry something like this on such a stupidly low margin. Expectations and products like this are why game stores go out of business.

I'll go ahead and throw my name in that hat for not wanting TNN in the format as well. The card has never been a satisfactory card to sit accross from and I feel like the control mirror becomes who can jam their TNN first and make it stick.
I think fish needs some love, sure, but TNN is taking that love too far. The deck is already great at chipping in for early damage and getting an opponent into a range where TNN can do a lot of work. cavern/vial add a whole different layer of frustration to that.

Wirewood Symbiote would play rather well with Dwynen's Elite, a card that's done a lot of work for me alongside Heritage Druid.
Personally, for my Elves, I'm hoping for any of: Wirewood Lodge, Priest of Titania, Wirewood Symbiote, Quirion Ranger, and Elvish Spirit Guide. Especially Priest and Guide, and maybe Lodge. But I'll settle for anything that helps buff up the Elves.
