So 36 walkers, 36 packs per box, coincidence? They recently put out a feeler with that online order set with the masterpiece walkers. Nobody having access to multiple copies of the same planeswalker solves all of the legendary issues, in limited anyways.
I really hope they are all flip-walkers and we get something flavorful that can flip them back like "Spark Dampening Orb - artifact, transform all walkers into creatures. creatures cant transform" or "Rekindle - Instant - transform target creature that has "KEYWORD FOR BEING DFC walker" or "Snuff Flame - Sorcery, deals 2 damage to any target. If that target was "Keyword for being DFC walker" Transform it into a creature" etc.
I'm very curious how much this is a "Ravnica" designed set, as that changes how color balanced the set needs to be. But my guess leans toward balance still? Definitely looping the limited signposts into the uncommon two-color Walkers (like the Uncommon legends in Dominaria).
Especially given how the colors are just so... all over the place. The stained glass art doesn't really help deduce a conclusion on the ones that aren't innately tied to an identity. The only one really cemented by their art is Ajani, who is leading Selesnyan soldiers (and a squirrel). (Which I know isn't a hard call, Ajani is usually in White/Green now over mono-white).
One possibility is that there will be a Planeswalker in every booster pack and each Planeswalker has equal probability of showing up. That fits with the observation of 36 Planeswalkers = 36 booster packs in a box.
I have a harder time imagining a big Planeswalker set that is not color balanced with the planeswalkers, with the exception that Bolas could show up as the only three color Planeswalker because it's Bolas.
That math gets a little challenging though when you also set aside Karn and Ugin as colorless, that leaves 33 Planeswalkers, not well divisible by five.
I think you can start with three mono-color planeswalkers per color:
To be slotted:
Huatli: Boros or Selesnya, artwork looks Boros.
Samut: Gruul as Planeswalker, but creature had been Naya as a commander identity, artwork looks potentially Selesnya.
Heron Hat Planeswalker: Blue-something, I'm guessing Dimir.
But there are five pairs lacking a second Planeswalkers. It's possible we'll see an unbalanced cycle, if so it's a sign WOTC favored the 36 boosters = 36 Planeswalkers over a more complicated mechanism.

I mean there is enough Rare slots for every walker to be at least Rare.
Still I expect salt when people's favorite walker is tibalt level
I think it all depends on the keyword(s)/abilities they may be supporting in the set. With Dominaria the legendaries also supported Legendary sorceries and historic. If you have something similar to Wizard's Lightning only for planeswalkers you might be ok having a Tibalt hanging around. I also expect that there will be cards that add and remove loyalty counters from planeswalkers as a boon or a cost.

Embrace the dark you call a home,
Gaze upon an empty, white throne
A legacy of lies,
A familiar disguise
Sing with me a song of conquest and fate
The black pillar cracks beneath its weight
Night breaks through the day, hard as a stone
Lost in thoughts all alone

Easier math would be to just go with two planeswalkers for each mono-color and each color-pair. That would be 30 total Walkers. Then the remaining 6 get to be whatever they want - two will be colorless (Karn and Ugin) and one will be three color (Bolas). That leaves you three more to play with.
Guessing the uncommon planeswalkers will be like the sagas, maybe only tick down with some minor effects that could work well in sequence so they help you do a thing but don't outright win for you, maybe even have a leaves the battlefield "ultimate" similar to phase 3 of sagas.
Is arms down palms forward the default planeswalker pose?
Before reading this thread, looking at the pics on wizards.com, I definitely thought #4 had an Elspeth vibe. Coming back from the dead with a staff instead of a sword seems like a very reasonable arc of transformation. The objections to hair color seem inconsequential to me: it’s an unusual stained glass art treatment, she’s back from the dead, the artist could’ve colored it differently by mistake, etc. I’m not sure I’d stake a real bet on it being Elspeth, but I’d definitely not be surprised.
Garruk not being here upsets me. I don’t want to hear any story justifications. They got every single one of the classic, early Planeswalkers in here except him. Boo.
I think people are being too rigid in some of their color predictions. Wizards has shown great freedom in changing color mixes on Planeswalkers in the past. Nothing about AVR Tamiyo would’ve suggested Bant colors later, Sarkhan literally has a different color mix in each of his four incarnations, etc. Bolas is the only Planeswalker whose color mix I’d consider sacred, with Karn in second place; and I wouldn’t be surprised to see versions of even them with non-typical color identities.
Garruk = Buy-a-Box promo from the set "White knight outrage about toxic masculinity in a fantasy game taken out of context and without shame on protecting fictional women"
In all seiouly wizards is on a hiatus with Garruk because redit users think Triumph of Ferocity is ofensive and the character should be killed to never be remembered again. I don't want to start a controversity but outrage about minimal and ridicule things is a thing in the "mtg community" even Jin Davis and PewDiePie can't escape the outrage.
Soo expect to never see garruk again and later in story learn he was killed off screen

Apparently Wizards disagrees. (See Attachment)
Nice we will get to see hin getting killed in 2022
It's a damn shame those stained glass art pieces won't be used for actual cards They look really cool. They could have been used as Masterpieces in the set.
With the title being war of the spark, and 36 Pw appearing in this set, i'm betting the design will be a mix of Sarkhan the Mad and the flip walkers, starting as PW, flipping on 0 loyalty, and having to meet specific conditions to flip again.

It's the pose to have your character stand upright, pull back their shoulder and stick their chest out. Both open but also strong and determined. Useful for singing, looking regal and walking into your destiny like a badass.

Explain something to me then. Triumph of Ferocity was in Avacyn Returned and thats when the backlash happened. Garruk was then the focus of m15. Since wizards works years in advance they would have been in the early stages of M15 (or not even started the set) when the Garruk backlash happened. So given they had time why did still go ahead and use Garruk as the focus?

Nah, no way. This is the viewpoint of someone who lives in the Internet commenter fishbowl. This is not representative of the greater MtG Community. Garruk is fine.

I like to know how this rumor started.
It's pretty clear that Garruk storyline was a mess even before the outrage. He was supposed to be cured by Avacyn. But suddenly they decided to make him even more corrupt.
"hey we have a problem, you know that character that was supposed to be cured by his curse? We have a backlash because he's too violent and embodies toxic masculinity"
"i know what to do! Retcon his cure and make him even more violent and unstable!"
it's clear that they changed Garruk's destiny abruptly and not because of the backlash.
Now he's in a limbo because they retconned Liliana into some sort of tragic heroine and you can't bring Garruk back without showing that Liliana was actually a big, chaotic evil ***** without any good or anti-heroic intention.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

Blue: Jace, Teferi, Tamiyo
Black: Ob Nixilis, Lilliana, Davriel
Red: Chandra, Jaya, Sarkhan
Green: Nissa, Vivien, Yanggu
It then gets odd because there are some strong color identifies for most of the remaining Planeswalkers, and I don't know if it balances:
Azorius: Dovin, Narset
Dimir: Ashiok
Rakdos: Tibalt, Angranth
Gruul: Domri, Arlinn
Selesnya: Ajani
Orzhov: Sorin, Kaya
Izzet: Ral, Saheeli
Golgari: Vraska
Boros: Nahiri
Simic: Kiora
