When it came time to enable Ninjas in Modern Horizons, I went back to Tormented Soul as an example of a simple creature we could change by giving it the changeling keyword.
time to enable Ninjas in Modern Horizons
Do I dare to believe?..
and this other part: "Cycle Extensions
Some five-card cycles from Magic's history were extended in Modern Horizons. While not quite fitting the definition of a five-card cycle, the five enemy color Horizon Canopy lands Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa previewed earlier this week fit into this category too.
Some other cycle extensions will be previewed later on, so keep your eyes open."
Dare I say Swords?

Bear queen works really well with goreclaw too. Goreclaw can get huge off bear mom and even if you're not tapping into the cost reduction for goreclaw you're still throwing around stupid amounts of power and damage all over the place.
Well, it's the three modes from Umezawa's Jitte. The only mode that is even a bit weird for a black card is the +2/+2, and the only thing weird about that is Black normally gives more power than toughness.
I wonder if it's a cycle, and whether there are cards in each color that have three modes that are suitable..
Yes, I recognize the three modes
Black does not normally gain life without sacrificing something or taking the life from something. But I guess they let it pass for pure flavor goodness.
I like that the art on Generous Gift actually explains why the permanent is destroyed and replaced by a token. The flavor of Beast Within always felt off because you'd think the permanent should be exiled or re-templated, since it "becomes" the beast. Generous Gift literally implies your permanent is destroyed because an elephant landed on it. "Sorry I burned down your village. Here's an elephant."

Black has a ton of lifelink and random life gain is tacked on quite a few cards. At the very least it doesn't seem out of color for black at all or a stretch to make flavor work.
I don't get it, it says Umezawa's Charm but there's no charm on the picture, only Umezawa looking at you with a sm... Oooooooh.
That's very clever Wizards. Kudos
I don't see how the Bear is going to be a bomb in limited. It's still just a vanilla 2/2 when you don't build around it. How many Changelings will realistically make it into your deck? Don't get me wrong, I still think it's an awesome card. It's just I think it will do most of its work at the kitchen table.
I am so making a Bear commander deck and naming it "Bear Necessities". That card is amazing. The others are pretty fun as well, splice onto instant or sorcery indeed.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
lifelink still qualifies as "taking the life from something" and a lot of those random life-gain cards are at least flavored that way (though Vraska's Contempt isn't and I'm pretty sure there are more such cards)
First snow permanents, now Splice and possible Ninjutsu. It's exciting, but really killing my hope for Standard snow-based and Return To Kamigawa sets.

Also between Ravenous Giant (Juzam Djinn B-->R) and Generous Gift (Beast Within G-->W) I smell a cycle of uncommon allied colorshifts.

The splice card is super sweet as well.
The ninja mention is intriguing, looking forward to Kamigawa-themed cards.
