You don't need infinite mana, just those 3 cards in my above post. Instant infinite mill. And not sure why people are referring to infinite mana, manticore can't even ping opponents.
Since the unicorn would force you to be in GW which would make it difficult to be in a dedicated mill deck, would that make it not worth trying to make the combo work in limited if you did manage to pull an altar, or if you had a deck with the unicorn and masticore already would it be worth throwing in the otherwise dead alter just for combo potential?
Lol. This might be my favorite card revealed. I've been playing a super cheaty (i.e. mostly Changeling) Masticore tribal deck in commander, in hopes that someday I'll be able to have enough Masticores to make it a reality.
So far in this set, I've gotten two things I desperately needed for it:
A legendary Masticore: Morophon, the Boundless
and more Masticore(s): Lesser Masticore

Personally love this card from a Melvin perspective.
The P/T and CMC (4) and the activated ability cost (2) from the original are reversed and while you only discard once, this card only “regenerates” once as well.
Very good design right here! A+

A clever fit in Vizier Of Remedies or Melira, Sylvok Outcast decks that aim for infinite mana.
