Echo the sentiment of not wanting to be about Chandra. Nothing against her personally, I'd just rather them use either lesser known characters or even just new ones so that the show can be it's own thing.
Who says they're not going to? Just because Chandra's the protagonist doesn't mean she won't be interacting with a wide variety of characters on a regular basis. And the story doesn't have to focus on Chandra 100% of the time. They just need a popular face to help bring attention to the show and make it more cohesive with the franchise's branding as a whole, and who's more inclined towards action than a mind mage. Jace might work as the face of the strategic card game, but Chandra works as the face of the action television series.
I think Giddeon also worked in that role as well. Post-retcon Nissa is too nice and Jace is too cerebral. Lilyanna works better as an anti-hero who helps the main heroes better than being a face of the show.
Since Giddeon died, my bet is they want to pile the emphasis into the living character who works best for the role.
Having said that, I still hope the show is more like Game of Thrones, what with a large cast of characters who all do their own thing and whose stories weave in and out of the other characters' stories on a regular basis.
I really hope it has the planeswalkers and all but it's actually them playing the game itself just so people can make youtube poops where everyone is a horrible cheater.
Jace: "I play Divination. It allows me to draw two more cards! *Footage loops to make him draw 4 cards*. Now I summon my Guard Gomazoa-Guard Gomazoa attack his lifepoints directly! It allows me to draw two more cards!"

I'd rather them make the main character one of the characters we were just introduced to in War (or a new character) just because they're open books. What about that Wizard lady, what's her deal? Or the Wanderer? What the heck is shield guy upto now? There's just a lot more potential to explore with them, imo, then with Chandra, who is already very well established as the character who is angry and makes kinda bad quips about fire.
My original guess as to what this series would consist of was essentially Sliders/Star Trek Voyager: MtG Edition -- each episode a self-contained Gatewatch story on a different plane, with a very loose and largely ignored overarching plot hanging over the whole thing (like the Sliders'/Voyager story of trying to get home). Bolas would be the Gatewatch's largely symbolic bad guy making sure no episode that could actually ends the series.
I think Davriel would make a fantastic protagonist for the show.
Now, as someone that only has his Arena voice clips and War of the Spark novel as basis, I'd say he would be a fantastic character for the series, but maybe not for the main role though. I think his sardonic humor and selfish demeanor works extremely well when playing off on other characters, but could easily become a bit grating if he was the main focus. My opinion is worth taking with a grain of salt since I haven't yet read the novel where he is the focus though.
We have the Russos behind it as well as a guy from the Clone Wars animated series. I've neither seen Avengers nor Clone Wars but think the tone for those properties is perfect for an animated Magic series and I've heard so much praise for both properties.
Please be good.
And yes, please be childish. PG-13 is where it's at with the Magic brand. The best animated action series of all time is Avatar: the Last Airbender after all, it doesn't have to be adult to be good.
I think Davriel would make a fantastic protagonist for the show.
A show with a villain protagonist. I'd watch that.
And don't go claiming he isn't a villain, he traffics with demons.
Did you learn nothing from Brandon Sanderson's novella, lol?
He is not really a "good" guy, I will give you that. But, he also isnt really a villian.
Maybe I interpreted it incorrectly.
Like most monoblack planeswalkers, he's a villain protagonist. I think Sorin is the one nonvillainous exception, but even then, Sorin's a bastard. But once you traffic with demons, you are no longer a hero. And even ignoring that, he literally rips peoples memories out of their heads (I.e. forces a discard).
But that does not mean that villain protagonists aren't capable of doing good things, many of them do. It's been a very long while since we've had a truly heroic monoblack character.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

If I remember correctly, there was some pretty dark stuff in Avatar. I think it was the second hashing of the show with Kora, but I recall a scene where this dude suicided/murdered his brother by lighting the gas tank on fire in a boat, causing them to explode. It was a pretty serious scene.
My point, as long as they have stuff like that, I'll be fine. Just don't water it down, please, Russo brothers.

There is a difference between a villain protagonist and a arrogant, self centered, murderous, genocidal, psychopath. Which is what Urza is.
Dude we understood that you (and I want to make a big emphasis to that "you") have a problem with Urza, but you just literally wrote:
Good. If I wanted to see a show about a supervillain, I'd rewatch Dr. Horrible or Megamind.
Anyway, a super-villain would never do sacrifices for the greater good but simply do evil for the sake of it (like Bolas and the gratuitious apocalypse bible style plagues over the harmless citizens on Amonkhet) so please stop to say that Urza is a "super-villain" because it is not.

Korra is a much more mature show than Last Airbender. The general themes are more mature, and some dark stuff does happen. A villain gets her head blown off in season 3. They don't show the gore, but that's cannon. Last Airbender really plays it for the kiddies, which is fine. Korra is the far better show in my opinion though. It's some of the best adventure media out there. The animation alone is just top notch.
But there's nothing wrong with keeping it kid friendly. Adventure Time really proved that kids and adults can enjoy the same stuff.

Villain protagonist =/= as a supervillain. For example, John Wick is a villain protagonist (being a former mob assassin) but he is not a supervillain. The main characters of the excellent show The Sopranos are villain protagonists, but they are not supervillains. The main character of Breaking Bad is a villain protagonist, but not a supervillain. There is a distinct difference in scale.

Davriel isn’t a villain, he’s an Anti-hero, its a fine line, but there is a difference. There are plenty of Anti-heroes that make good protagonist for shows. Punisher, Deadpool, Walter White, Jamie Lannister, Frank Underwood. They can take a show in pretty much any direction without undermining the “Superman complex” that the “Lawful Good” characters get stuck in.
Davriel also has a lot of flushing out to do, which the show can do.
Netflix may go under before 2020 though. They have the business acumen of bolas so it's fitting they will share his fate.
Not likely, Netflix hasn’t been great financially due to the massive loans that they took out, but they grossed $5 billion in profit last year. Even with Disney+ coming and other streaming services, they are the biggest streamers out there, competition is good.
