I believe Chandra is 23 currently. She was 12 in her origins story and Dovin mentions its been around 11 years since then, making her 22/23 and around 6 months or so has passed since then so 23 is where I'd put her.
Jace and Gideon where late 20's/early 30's.
Liliana is 200+ but has her youth locked into 29.
Nissa is in her 60's but in elf years she is in her 20's
Teferi (if the wiki is right) is around 1,268 but he is slowly aging and is physically in his late 50's
Not sure on Ajani or Kaya.

neat art. Looking forward to Core 2020.
Maybe we will get another good Chandra card?
I hope there would be more support for snow in this set.
If they decided that Snow Basics were too "powerful" for Standard, it's unlikely we'll see Snow Permanents. And this goes for people hoping for Viking World with Snow too.
When did they say snow basics were too powerful for standard? That doesn’t even make any sense considering they decide what cards are snow support and what cards are snow hate for a set. That’s like saying that artifact creatures are too powerful for standard.
That thing definitely looks like an ice or snow elemental to me, and if we’re going to Viking land, snow basics make sense.
And yeah, Chandra looks to be the future of Magic. She’s the star of the comic, the Netflix series, and Core 2020.

Not to get hung up on character age, but has no time passed since Lorwyn? That was 2007, so it's been 12 years real life. Surely she's been through at least 12 years worth of story since then, right? If she was 20 then, she should be in her thirties by now. They should all be aging.
Are they like Ash Ketchum and just stay the age they were when they started? That's lame. It's especially lame when there are immortal characters who wouldn't show signs of age.
I think Wizards finally figured out that Jace is super unlikelable so they made him likeable in Ixalan and then almost immediatley reverted his character back to being unlikeable.
Chandta at the very least is much more compelling.

Chandra was 19 during the Purifying Fire, her first canon appearance which was roughly around Alara/Zendikar. Magic blocks/stories don't follow real world time and the time between blocks can change as well (Amonkhet was almost less than 2 days while Jace was on Ixalan for several months.
Fun fact Lorwyn was around 40's or so years before BtZ. Nissa sparked and when to Lorwyn as it was changing to Shadowmoor during the events of the original block and during BtZ she mentions she had been a planeswalker for 40 years or so.

Red color is the best way to get new players used to the randomness of the game because red has the most random effects.

People saying Chandra is more interesting than Jace? LOL please. She's just about as one dimensional as it gets (That goes pretty much all the characters really), but most of Magics lore reads like a bad fan fiction anyway.
If Chandra main character they admitting Red is most popular or the color they want to promote their extra media with to get new players as they think it's the easiest color to play and get strong results with.
Red color is the best way to get new players used to the randomness of the game because red has the most random effects.
It doesn't get that many random effects, and certainly not much at common or uncommon. Also, red randomness isn't the same as the game's baseline randomness. I can't see how a handful of coinflip cards would get players used to the fact that mana screw and mana flood are normal parts of the game.
Red and Green are arguably the easiest colors for a new player to wield. They are also Timmy colors, and most new, young players are Timmies, since direct damage and combat are easily graspable concepts in the game. Shipping Chandra and Nissa makes sense in this regard: it's Green and Red coming together, and they're both women, appealing to a minority player base that Hasbro and Wizards would like to tap into. Research has shown that Generation Z is extremely supportive and receptive of progressive values, so no doubt a same-sex relationship will also draw young players.
Chandra is not more interesting then Jace. They are both generic. But I do agree Red is good for new players. Decks tend to be cheap regardless of format and the mechanics tend to be simple to pick up for RDW and Burn relative to other decks. It direct with its creature combat, direct damage plus it gets Dragons which doesn't hurt. Plus if you are going to do something animated or live action, Chandra has a much flashier combat style. I mean mind control and illusions are fine but rarely the bread and butter of any main character causes its not visceral in combat. Chandra is much more inline despite being Female of your typical Shonen Protag.
Now I don't agree that making your lead a Lesbian is good for Business. Though I could totally see her being Bisexual so there is that. She is a women which is good for diversity points and she is sort of fantasy Indian though the fact can't tell that by looking at her could definitely bite WOTC in the behind while being on a progressive push.
As for aging eh this an advantage of Oldwalkers. More realistic time scales

Chandra's dad, Kiran, is pretty white compared to her mother - Pia - so it is not like they do not have an out.

My point is its hard to claim Chandra is good Diversity in terms of Characters of Color when she doesn't look like she is anything but an Irish Fire Lass. Ergo my point is they can push her as good LGBT Rep, good Women Rep but I expect blowback if they ever tried to push her as good People of Color Rep. And yes I know not every Indian looks the same but this is fantasy where you only have some many characters so having your Indian rep looking less Brown then Gideon aint anything to write home about.

Her dad is caucasian, her mother is indian, which would make Chandra, half and half. Skin color is due to a lot of factors, and I've met plenty of mixed race people who could pass for one or the other parents race if need be. It's a little harder to explain Chandra's red hair as that trait is genetically recessive, but it is still possible, as it is reasonable that both of her parents had redheads somewhere in their ancestry, and the genetics of that got passed down to Chandra.

Saheeli checks the Character of Color box for Indian people, Chandra doesn't need to. And as mentioned above, her dad is Caucasian, and as I explained, it does give reason to why she looks like she does.
And before people bring it up, like they always do, yes I am well aware that Chandra has freckles, and yes Asian people can have freckles. Don't believe me? Look up an image of Lucy Liu that isn't photoshopped to hell and back or where she is caked in makeup to hide it. She's ethnically Chinese. All people can potentially have freckles, it's just not always noticeable.

Chandra is not more interesting then Jace. They are both generic.
Chandra is certainly more likeable than Jace, though. I fully support Chandra being the new face of Magic. The only thing I hope they change is upping her snark game a bit to be a little more reminiscent of Jaya.
As I said Chandra main advantage to me is more she is got a more exciting fighting style and she has the more typical Anime Shonen Protag personality that is tried and true. Those are character specific. Color Specific Red is a color that is simple to play relatively and cheap for new characters.
Which reminds me I wonder in this show if Abilities will be named after actual spells in the game.
Am I really the only one who thinks Chandra is equally as one dimensional if not more than Jace? oh boy...
At least she's less tsundere than Liliana. I want to pull my hair out whenever I read about characters like that. Can't stand characters like that.
And why put a single person as "the face of magic" anyway? That in itself is really one dimensional and, I think, is a bad representation of what Magic is.
The Gatewatch (like them or not) are easily digested by people not familiar with magic and the different characters' colour identity/look are easy to identify what class they are. "That dude's the fighter, that girl's the spellcaster, that dude's the mage type dude" etc. It reminded me more of an old school RPG game where you can pick your class and then start playing.
And the OG gatewatch and current gatewatch certainly doesn't lack in filling the diversity quota companies lust for. New gatewatch arguably has more interesting, from a gameplay standpoint, planeswalkers too that aren't mono coloured like Kaya and Teferi who both have lots of strong cards tied to their names.
I've honestly lost complete interest in the story since I think it reads like a bad fan fiction anyway. I just want some cool cards to play with and have fun with my friends playing a game I like so I can forget the real world for a few hours. I don't want politics and agenda stuff shoved over my head, but Wizards love that *****.
Am I really the only one who thinks Chandra is equally as one dimensional if not more than Jace? oh boy...

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
Am I really the only one who thinks Chandra is equally as one dimensional if not more than Jace? oh boy...

She's just as much as of a self-insert power fantasy as Jace, but I don't think they're self-insert power fantasies though, far from it. It just sounds like you wantedto make a hard diss at Jace because you don't like him or you're tired of him.
Making the individual characters more prominent like this feeds the power fantasy aspect if you ask me. But I guess that's what Wizards have been pushing towards for a long time with the Planeswalkers and gatewatch. Pushing hard for characters to get some sort of cinematic universe started (which is happening now)
But what's the point even in talking about this? I'm 99% sure neither of us will change our minds on this anyway. But it's alright to disagree.
Chandra is more interesting than Jace, a character for whom WotC cannot really settle on a personality. Ixalan Jace was the most endearing and interesting take on the character. I hope WotC sticks with that personality going forward.
