the 3 cmc rare version might be pushed enough to show up in modern. spawning some hasty dorks seems pretty good for containing opposing walkers. im down with the cutsie art, but i cant tell if chandra is winking or if she is having a stroke.
mama chandra has my least favorite clause in mtg 'cannot be countered', but then i read the card again and all i saw was 'we're sorry about teferi hod, but we had to do it'.
kidding aside im not surprised chandra is in the spotlight. she is a strong female character with a relatively clean backstory at a time when wizards is trying to broaden their appeal. though i do wonder how the core set will connect with the overarching story; if at all. they are a good spot to showcase past events to give characters more depth, however with core 2019 the origins and events around bolas tied directly into the stuff on ravnica. as far as i know chandra's story is pretty much tied up right? reunited with her mom, fought for her plane, reconnected with her mentor jaya, and even dealt with dovin.

Absolutely love the artwork for the first two (same artist obviously)... not hyper realistic or too cartoony... just reminds of American action cartoon animation, like from GI Joe or Jem.
I know that nobody cares about my opinion, but after WAR, I am burnt out on PW. I am ready to go back to them being mythic rarity and hard to get in packs.
I guess they are pushing Chandra since she is looking like she will be the face of the new Netflix show, at least that's my guess.
I am just waiting for the rare and mythic rare versions of Davriel.
To bad the guy is dead and we won't see a another core release base on him with 3 copies of him in one set with modern planeswalker abilities.
What card is that artwork for? That' seriously fricken awesome. Like a father protecting his grown daughter.
With regards to the Gatewatch--or certain members--being overexposed: The Gatewatch as a concept is fine. The Gatewatch storyline that just ended, was a bit much. In fact I like learning more about the characters individually as opposed to the saturated storyline we had but learning each PWs' unique histories is something I'm keen on exploring. The Jace-Vraska developmental arc was fantastic in Ixalan. That's how a storyline ought to unfold. Hopefully we'll get to see more of that moving forward post-War of the Spark

i feel the same way, which is why im a little surprised they are pushing the PW button again so soon. perhaps it was just done out of convenience, since it IS a pretty flavorful way to showcase chandra. also WAR expanded PW design space, which is fine in moderation, but still..
playing UWx control in modern myself and basically being forced into superfriends, then playing standard on arena; im pretty tired of planeswalkers atm. to be frank the walkers from WAR seeing play beyond standard arent very engaging to play with or against, but i digress.
edit: though i will say i think wren and six is a pretty sweet design. however im completely cool if we get 3-4 sets with the typical 4-5 cmc not-quite-good-enough walkers we are used to

I feel that way too. I think Wizards needs to realize that one of the things people don't like is oversaturation. People got tired of the Eldrazi after two sets (and then another) of them. People got tired of Jace. People were tired of the Gatewatch fast. People are going to get tired of Chandra if they keep promoting her like this. If she is going to be the protagonist of the new show, that's fine. They should let that stand as its own thing without holding a neon sign that says "CHANDRA!"
the 3 cmc rare version might be pushed enough to show up in modern. spawning some hasty dorks seems pretty good for containing opposing walkers.
Funny, I thought the same thing, but based on her being another snapcaster mage in red. She costs 1 more, no flash, but she can use flashback twice and potentially more if you uptick her. Gives more resources to burn decks.
I must admit that I am both amazed and jealous that the meme hasn't been flagged or been given any warnings, considering the mods always get on me if my posts are just memes.
That being said, I really like the mythic Chandra, and may consider building a burn-style Oathbreaker deck with her.
Chandra is a much better choice to be "the face" than Jace. He's always written as being so awkward and unconfident where as Chandra is more dynamic without such hesistation.
We'll be pushing close to 50 Standard Legal Planeswalkers after Core 2020.
A lot of them are great, good, pretty good, and somewhat playable.
The Elderspell will see it's due I think. :shrugs:

Now that i think about it, wasn't gideon introduced as a romantic interested to chandra? what happened between them since nothing romantic really happened?

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
I mean just cause I didn't want Jace overexposed doesn't mean I want to switch from the Jacetice League to Chandra and the Avengers. I mean I find Koth or Tibalt or Jaya far more interesting then Chandra as monoRed Walkers. Chandra is basically the generic fire mage and the unique things are she is Indian (though u cannot tell by looking at her) and she is Lesbian? Bi? But its not like WOTC focuses much on romance.
As for the cards themselves the 6 cmc one is problematic. A guaranteed Emblem cause the only way u can stop Chandra is with discard. Counters have been crippled between T3feri and nothing below 3 cmc allowed by Maro and Friends. And you probably need a Walker killing spell because you it goes up to 8 Loyalty after One Plus. So direct damage for Red and creature damage is unlikely to take it down unless you have an overwhelming board advantage. And if so she probably wipes most of your creatures if you were going low to the ground. The death of interaction.

Not exactly, Gideon was introduced as a new mono-white planeswalker since Ajani was no longer it after Ajani Vengeant was printed (though he did have some mono-white cards printed in core sets afterward).

If we're going to have cards laying out the evolution of a single character like this, I would have liked to see them linked mechanically...
Couldn't teenage Chandra have an ultimate that tutors grown-up Chandra and puts her in play, or some such?

No, uncommon and rare PW are now just like the uncommon legends : a tool available to use infrequently when the set design needs it.
It is now an available tool to be used where it makes sense, such as showcasing the main focus of a set.

Its hard to tell since WOTC doesn't give their artist character sheets to keep things consistent.
