Gargos being monogreen is such a letdown and really makes little sense if they wanted to push him as the new face of hydra tribal decks, other than that though he is an impressive card. Big body with great abilities and undercosted to boot.
Blue cavalier is arguably the best of that cycle as well. Natch.
The hydra is part of a "iconic creature type" cycle - with the angel, the demon, the sphinx, and presumably a dragon that is yet to be spoiled.
Also, there aren't any important red hydras. G/R is only a hydra thing because of Mosheen.

Well...

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Isn't it weird how much tribal we got in Modern Horizons and now M20? I would think it's because the upcoming set has a big tribal component, but Modern Masters doesn't even affect that, so... Is it just some new approach to make the game more beginner-friendly? I'm not even sure if I like it or not, and this coems from someone who loves tribal. It's just so strange.
If you read mark Rosewater's blog, most requests are for tribal cards. Its simply filling requests that aren't problematic. The hydra, for example, functions quite well as a hydra lord, heroic lord, or generic beat stick.
I mean I know that. But tribal was always popular. It just feels like this is so much at once, rather than a steady increase.

Again, not complaining, but musing.
It does seem like a lot of things are finally coming to fruition, finally, albeit all at once.
Also, just noticed I was in your sig. Haha I still stand by your statement!

Play Leyline of Anticipation and/or Vivien.
Gargos, Vicious Warden is just a bazooka, able to mow everything down in mono-green is kind of ridiculous.
There are plenty of instants and enchantments to target it with to keep up killing creatures while maintaining cards in hand to keep doing it.
It's just the six mana that you have to design around making sure you have plenty of ramp in the face of removal.

Seems we have a sort of mega cycle of monocolor Iconic tribal legends in the works:
