I don't want a postmodern format yet, and am pretty happy with the state of things. I hope it's the speculative supplemental product change or a final abandonment of the Reserved List (and the latter is not probable, to say the least)
Is anybody going to be at the panel in person tonight? The only way we'll find out what is going on is through secondhand informational reporting since there will be no streaming of this panel.
So nowhere in any of those links are the words "Major Changes" noted anywhere.
Seems like "Much ado about nothing" if you ask me. Rosewater always likes to blow things way out of proportion with his "hints".
It will be something interesting but some sort of fundamental major change in Magic it will not be.

Would anybody be in favor of the return of Extended as a format?
very much so actually. Longer life for cards for standard players? Much deeper deck variety? And standard is already pretty diverse... and it would solve some Arena problems as well after rotation. Great idea IMO.

Anyway, I'm very excited to see what the future is going to be. My money is on Frontier being realized - though, perhaps starting at Origins and not KTK (so there's no fetches in the format).
Like I said before, I would be extremely surprised if they do this unless it also includes sets like Modern Horizons (which introduces a fetch). There would be significant bad will if they were to release a premium Modern set like that, and then suddenly obsolete Modern as a format.

Those freaky power gamer people would probably see this hypothetical format as inferior. It definitely does not obsolete Modern. Also, Extended as it was rotated at the same rate as Standard but included roughly twice as many sets. But seriously, rotating or no, Modern is stronger, faster, and deeper, however you slice it. If anything, there are signs that Legacy and Vintage are going to be slowly (or indeed immediately in this announcement) phased out.

Maybe Planeswalkers commanders will be recognized? As long as it’s not “we’re phasing out paper magic” I’m happy. Still very interested in what the announcement is. Hopefully something cool.
Again, ladies and gents, don't get sucked into Rosewater's maybe's and stay tuned ambiguous answers. He loves to do this and people take the bait hook line and sinker every time. So what will amount to a talk on the new block and some tiny little new twist to the game turns into Resevered List abolished, Paper Magic is dead, Cats and Dogs living together, mass hysteria!
Don't make a mountain out of a molehill. If it were to be a "Major" or Huge change it wouldn't be handled in this fashion and it wouldn't be handled by just one person. If I am wrong, I'm wrong. It probably will be something interesting, its not going to be Earth-shattering.
See above as I was just typing this ^^^^^^^

Well, he wouldn't be hyping it up like this if it was nothing- magic changes a little bit every year. We shouldn't expect some great fundamental change, but there have been major changes plenty of times before. The current 'three and one set model', the previous 'two-block paradigm', the introduction of the block, new world order, the introduction of planeswalkers, the introduction of mythic rarity, the Magic Origins evergreen changes, and more.

Planeswalker commanders is a subject for the commander rules committee, and outside of the control of the WotC. It would be very odd for that decision, therefore, to be announced like this.

its definately not paper magic is dead he just said it on the blogatog its doing way to well to be killed
and lots of people have got to stop with this conspiracy theory about paper magic is over theres too far into paper to be killed and making too much money and heres everyones error arena only touches standard legal sets not alpha cards and beyond
1v1 brawl is coming to Arena, and the release of ELD comes with preconstructed brawl decks. Each of the brawl decks will have '7 new mechanically unique cards'.

Methinks you'd have better luck seeking out a different game if you can't accept a variance-based resource system.
As if we needed confirmation, but here it is.
RUNIN: Norse mythology set (awaiting further playtesting)
FATE of ALARA: Multicolour factions (currently on hiatus)

Which is the new 'showcase' premium version of the card- one of the 'changes' presumably. Alongside borderless planeswalkers.
