Likely would be better. It would be very hard to top the train wreck of the War of the Spark novel. This looks like a more traditional fantasy novel than "endgame: the novel".
I love the fact Kate Elliott is back. She did phenomenal work on the Bolas origin arc. I am very pleased to see her return.
Not happy that the free online stories are no longer accessible. But I've always found Godsend to be worthwhile and loved it, so I can see myself purchasing material from this author, and this setting as well. I'll gladly do it for a return to Theros as well, but for some of the lesser appealing planes to me, such as Kaladesh, I'd rather get those stories for free as I could care less for the setting (and it may depend on the author they select as well). In those cases, I'd feel out of the loop on the lore, which is never good for a Vorthos.

I don't mind pay for a book if WotC finds good writing. I love Greg Weisman as a TV script writer and had high hope for the War of Spark book, but I felt that he would've done a better job if there are more than one volume for that battle.
For the record, I’m fairly certain the War of the Spark novel by Greg Weisman was actually the absolute worst thing I’ve ever read, MtG related or otherwise.
I’m not sure how much of the blame should go to Greg Weismann. He had to write about dozens of characters and conclude a story arch that different authors have been creating, and I have a feeling his writing was micromanaged by a bunch of people.
I will say that I thought the narrator of the audiobook did a good job, and made some of the bad writing actually enjoyable.

If it is the same quality as War of the Spark, then no book is better... Way better.
Not counting that the WotS book wasn't even complete because "screw you, you whale who bought our book thinking it would have been a good and complete product".

It may be his style, but I've listened to an excerpt of one of his Star Wars books and... It was an awful mess of periods with random punctuation trying to mimic a stream of consciousness and failing miserably, so... I would say that even without micromanagement the book would have been a literary disaster.
Two thoughts on the ebook venture:
- I was intrigued with Kate Elliott's interview that she was given the world guide and some art, but did not see many cards when writing. Thus, she was able to craft the story and then had to run some choices by Creative. This sounds like a return to post-Apocalypse (Phyrexian Invasion) or Alara storytelling where the story is overlayed on the world of the cards.
- I also get a Mirrodin or Llorwyn vibe (not due to the setting specifically) as we're taking a turn from the major story arc with a side-story.

War of the spark book was a big dissapointment, can't believe they finished that story line with such a poor book and story for the battle. They really blew it.

That’s fair. It was a monumental task to be certain. Especially with the format and release schedule adopted. I could see him being strained. It really wasn’t for me honestly. But nothing personal toward the author. It’s a mix of a lot of factors. Either way, it’ll be nice to see Kate Elliott take on a more self contained and low volume story than the overwhelming Bolas arc that would exhaust any author.
I just looked at the projects Weisman has been part of, then I looked at the quality of Magic lore the last few years......yeah, the book sucking is not on him, they haven't had plot that a child couldn't write for several years now. which sucks because some good writers were wasted on the drivel. if they think people are going to PAY to read those little stories on the mothership, either they are crazy or i am very very sad for how low standards are. I love the card game, it's amazing when they are not doing an Amonkhet poor job of it, but the story at least since the end of Khans is the worst I have read for ANY fantasy world.
as far as the WAR novel, I'd bet it had the same problem as the broad strokes I picked up from the cards. it's hard to have a few dozen characters and a rich world and a war and the defeat of a villain they have been building since the 90s in one book. I get that they really wanted to copy Marvel, but Marvel did it over 11 years and 22 movies, with just the final boss fight being two movies. not 'here's a ton of characters and all of this plot and our big battle and the collapse of a political system and the defeat of a hero and a few double crosses and defeat in general and then a secret weakness and a sacrifice and redemption, another betrayal and a random deus ex machina defeat. k thnx bye!'

He wrote a Star Wars novel? Only Star Wars related material I see on his bibliography is the comic from Marvel. Of course, I haven’t read any of his writing, just watched some of the shows he was credited (or not credited with) such as Gargoyles.
I still hold Wiesman responsible for it all, but I just think the entire thing was a mess. With all that setup and time, I was surprised at how sloppy it all was. But whatever, I'm ready to move on to better stories, such as Eldraine, Theros and Vryn with Jace.

They did say starting with War of the Spark...... maybe it ended there too. Especially after the debacle that it was.
