Time to cry.
Time to see get rich selling 10 playsets of SFM before people realize it is busted but not that much(imo). (At least I will finish 2 more decks just from selling those ladies )
Time for them to reprint stoneforge mystic. I’d say it’d make a great FNM promo, but the pessimist in me knows that a lot of shops will just choose to sell them rather than hand them out.
But the Faithless Looting ban is surprising for sure, and by far one of the most impactful changes in the format. Not entirely unwelcome, just... surprising, even though it definitely will make a lot of people angry.
Rampaging Ferocidon probably giving standard players a chance for that broken trick again for one final goodbye to dinosaur tribal standard...for now
Yea I figured Hogaak would get banned still to broken even with brdige from below getting banned (ps why is it still banned of Hogaak is gone?) anyway atleast legacy/vintage and commander will have a place for him (reminder jimmy did very well with Hogaak in modern horizons commander game)
faithless looting really why that has it ben breaking backs in modern
stoneforge mystic whoa that’s a mega large gamble for sure of unbanning it karn, the great creator is the best defense I can think of for now but more defense has happened though
All of those definatly should be resiticted
fastbound I guess you can 4 of that again good luck guys

It's been on the radar for years. Not surprising at all really, the only surprising aspect of Faithless Looting is why it took so long for them to give it the ban. They can always unban it later when the meta can handle it like Jace, BBE, and SFM. Graveyard-based strategies are one of the most un-Magic feeling types of decks, and it's a sign things need a shake up when 1-mana enablers are out performing any sideboard/mainboard hate for their archtypes. Ancient Stirrings is in a very similar vein as Faithless Looting, also on the radar, but thankfully Tron isn't as oppressive as the graveyard decks of recent.
Throne of Eldraine, as we guessed, might have enough equipment theme to want Stoneforge Mystic to be around. Unless of course, it might also get reprinted there...
Oh, is SFM a alternative game plan on the colossus hammer deck? For maybe grind matchs?
Hope it isn’t only for tempo/control Decks, and that combo and agro decks can use it. Kinda funny it probably is a non budget version of goblin engineer and a worse version of it in the Urza sword deck.
Hollow One, Mardu Pyro, Mono Red Prowess, Unearth Aristocrats, BR Elementals, UR Drakes and Jeskai Ascendancy are now dead without ever being allowed the chance to prove themselves. Can't wait for Phoenix and Dredge to keep dominating by just replacing Looting with wathever blue ***** cantrip they didn't play already.
And I also bet they'll print Faithless Looting in blue and everyone who hated it will now defend it like it's the second coming of Jesus.
Banning Looting is the final nail in the coffin of Modern. Hitting a wide swath of decks because people want less combo decks is dumb as hell. Modern will become a wasteland like Standard where 3-4 decks take control of the meta and nothing else will stand a chance. Expect a huge Tron revival now.
That's the plan and then BAN the Tron lands, and everyone will live happy ever after

that's absurd. combo will still exist, but the majority like Modern better when it is slower and more interactive, which this does

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
Any news on anything banned in Commander? When is that announcement?
that's actually not controlled by WOTC but by a outside source of people that started the EDH/commander style of decks and rules found at http://www.dragonhighlander.net.
I think the straw that broke the camel's back when it comes to looting is the fact that it was played in Dredge. Everything else was just collateral damage and more likely then not chaff that folded to Dredge anyway.
If there is a mechanic/strategy that WotC would want to nuke out of orbit or just plain erase it from the game entirely it's Dredge. Now Looting is up there with GGT, Bridge from Below and Dread Return as one of the newest members of the Dredge Hall of Shame. That fact alone speaks to the power of the card more then anything else. That being said I don't think the deck is dead and gone, even with two consecutive bans aimed at it. It will just resort to other, slightly less popular not less powerful (Hedron Crab and Glimpse the Unthinkable come to mind), enables to keep on dredging. Until they ban Imp and Thug at the beginning of the End Times.
They could very possibly reprint Careful Study as a compensation of sorts to other "fair" looting decks but I don't expect them to be quick about it if the blue enablers manage to pick up the pace and keep Dredge in the format at whatever tier.

In my dream, the world had suffered a terrible disaster. A black haze shut out the sun, and the darkness was alive with the moans and screams of wounded people. Suddenly, a small light glowed. A candle flickered into life, symbol of hope for millions. A single tiny candle, shining in the ugly dark. I laughed and blew it out.
Many thanks to HotP Studios. Special thanks to DNC for this great sig.

The only way stoneforge will be reprinted in throne of eldraine is if Kor is a creature type in throne of eldraine

This. You can still Storm out or attempt to Dredge or do other interactions, but decks won't feel obligated to just jam Faithless Looting because it's amazing.
As for Mystic, there's likely a supplemental set around the winter holidays, I expect to see it there.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
And I also bet they'll print Faithless Looting in blue and everyone who hated it will now defend it like it's the second coming of Jesus.
It’s called careful study, though it’s not modern legal. However I could see them maybe print it in a future modern horizons set.
Another one I feel they may print is something along the same lines as looting in red, but make it “rummaging” instead of looting. Like “Discard 2, draw 2”, but it would probably have to be worded “discard up to 2 cards and draw that many cards” just to not make it a one mana divination when hellbent.
