Well just remember that we have a red mythic equipment that gives double strike and trample and +1/+0 when doing combat math... ye I know someone will have those 2 vs me in the pre release (10 damage easy)
This is the pinger lord I've been waiting for! Kamahl and Jeska (and even the new Syr Carah) are cool, but why have your general just be a pinger when it can triple all your other ones?
kind of a boring enchantment, that dies. nice art tho, and glad to see some dorf love
I think it's pretty good. It can be a top end for burn decks that also play creatures... giving your guys some reach in the endgame or making your spells hit for way more damage.
Unless I'm reading this wrong, Torbran does double duty with Trample creatures. Say I have a 2/2 Trampler attacking, and they have a 1/3 blocking. Torbran makes my creature deal 4 trample damage to their 1/3, with one damage carrying over to my opponent, where Torbran will again boost that to three damage. Your attacking trample creature will first have a creature target, then a player target, so Torbran will chip in with each/both. The example on Gatherer at the bottom of Torbran's rulings says the 5/5 trample creature would deal two damage to the defending 2/2 (then boosted to four damage), and three to the opponent that boosts to five. But shouldn't it be that the 5/5 deals seven damage to the creature, five trample over, which then becomes seven to the opponent? Or the two damage that becomes four, wouldn't two of that again trample over, added to the 3+2=5 would come to 7...? I can argue it two ways, both of which my opponent takes seven damage. Or say I have a 3/3 trample and they have a 2/2. My creature should do five damage to their 2/2, with three spilling over, which Torbran would boost to five on my opponent.
Aside from that, Pyrohemia benefits the most though, as you can spend 3 red each player turn, not killing Torbran or removing Pyrohemia, and deal 9 damage to your opponent and each of their creatures, and 3 to you and yours. In a two player game that's 18 damage to them per round if you have six red available.
I think Torbran might actually prove to be too strong. Might eventually fall victim to an EDH banning. It used to be that a Lightning Bolt was too strong, or on the borderline. Now there are 10+ similar cards that are better once Torbran is on the field, like Shock, that can deliver 4 or 5 damage for one red... that will make red super fast in EDH, if you can keep Torbran alive. Maybe too fast... like Lava Dart becomes a win-con with Torbran out if you have enough Mountains... saccing seven will "instantly" deal 21 damage, etc. It's fun, and I love playing with him, but I think its for a limited time, until he's not allowed to come out and play anymore.
It does not work quite like that. The Gather example is correct because you must first assign up to lethal damage to the blocking creature (2) before any damage from trample can be assigned to the defending player (3). Once the damage is being dealt then it gets increased by two. In your example the 2/2 would first have to assign 2 damage to the defending 1/3. Once damage has been assigned, Torban increases that damage dealt by 2, making your 2/2 deal 4 damage. I believe there was a question like this in the rules forum when Torban was revealed or shortly there after.
