There is a deluxe edition of Throne that contains the following:
-16 Collector Boosters
-1 set-themed binder
-1 foil Garruk borderless card
-1 art print of Garruk
-1 non-foil Kenrith Buy-a-Box promo
-1 3x3 strip from a Throne foil sheet
-1 Arena online code for a digital Garruk sleeve and 1 digital copy each of Garruk, Charming Prince, Magic Mirror, Witch's Vengeance, Bonecrusher Giant, and Questing Beast
I'd really hoped the fact that stores were getting Collectors Boosters meant they were coming to their senses, even though it's a crap product. Then they announce this.
Haven’t they learned from the mythic editions in all 3 ravnica sets
They haven't otherwise they would just have collector's boosters on this and on a very limited collector's booster boxes. At least people can buy those boosters, open in other products, etc. But imo if they had included some masterpieces on this Deluxe Edition then the product would sell easy... Imsgine if they had made a special foil version of any of these: Mana Echoes any of the tutors, Amulet of Vigor, Prismatic Omen, Rhystic Study, etc the inclusion of a promo that is only available by the box would make those sell really fast.
If people buy something that costs very little to make, they'll do it. They've got to have a way to pay for the extreme cost of these trailers somehow.

I personally would hate it if Rhystic Study became easier to acquire in any way.

I like how when you mouse over Rhystic Study it shows the set symbol for the special foil version they printed.
It's sad to say, but WotC is diving deeper and deeper into a very dangerous pool. Stating that they're incentivizing people to fall prey of ludopathy is maybe a stretch, but not a big one. Beeing a CCG doesn't mean you can do things like that without evaluating the consequences for the audience...
What bothers me more than anything is that this product will still sell out and they'll (rightfully, from an economic standpoint) think of it as a huge success, which we all know breeds repetition. Humans: how silly we are... and the homo ludens is sometimes the silliest of us all.
Yeah... how much a single collector booster is worth? 20$? 25?
Here in Europe they are around 20€ now, so this seem grossly overpriced

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
Again, I won't be touching this product unless it is a free throw in.

STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Again, I won't be touching this product unless it is a free throw in.
I was saying similar things with the release of uma. That ***** was just a trojan to see if there were enough gullible whales to increase the prices
And sadly, there were.

Gullible Whales. I'm going to use that one from now on.
I predicted a $1000 Ultimate Timmy box by 2021. I'm guessing the whales still have some gullible left in them.

Now, I'm not saying this is a particularly good product, but you technically do get your money's worth. At $25/pack price (though some stores might end up selling them for more, depending on print run size), the collector's boosters alone would cost $400. On top of that, you get a borderless Garruk, Cursed Huntsman, which might command a pretty penny by itself if he sees any standard play, a likely prospect given that the similar Vraska, Relic Seeker also did. The non-foil BaB promo probably will only have value for people who dislike foil cards, so its contribution will be negligible unless we have another Nexus of Fate on our hands. On top of all of that cardboard, you also could get value out of the peripherals. The binder, art print, foil sheet, and arena code could all be worth something if they're exclusive to the deluxe edition.
That being said, $450 is a monstrous price. It isn't hurting anybody for existing, though, so I don't see much need to get worked up over a product I'll never buy.
The product would be great without the expensive boosters.
Just a package of the binder for a set.
A binder with the sets art, that is big enough to hold 4x of each card of a set would be cool to have for a collector.
All the stuff would maybe sell for 50 bucks, that would be fine as a collectors "add-on".
Combining all of this with the boosters ramps the price up massive, so thats the catch and the misery of this product.
----
They try to inflate the price tag of all their products by adding in expensive booster packs, which they learned (sadly, as people are just stupid), that people pay the premium price tag, some people dont know where to throw their money at ; and so some people are guaranteed to buy this no matter what.
Any half reasonable normal person will never be able to afford this kind of product ; a single 100 bucks each set is already stretching a lot of peoples wallets, this is just gets obscene and perverts the entire "value".
I already hate those Collector Booster because of their outrageous price, but this is even worse. The value just isn’t there but neither is the collector appeal. The binder is just a binder, the 3x3 sheet is a fraction of a collector’s item, the print isn’t even worth $10, the digital stuff is fluff and the Collector Boosters don’t justify the rest of the cost. Those boosters should cost $10 max, not $30. Those premium Alara boosters were like $8.99 and those were 15 foils.
That being said, $450 is a monstrous price. It isn't hurting anybody for existing, though, so I don't see much need to get worked up over a product I'll never buy.
I disagree with it not hurting anybody. Maybe not today but I tell you with the direction of the "specialty" products that it could be harmful later on. Just like loot boxes in video games, they weren't hurting anybody at first but eventually it became a necessity to play games to compete. I could see WoTC sneaking in playable cards only obtainable in these specialty products. I hope not but with how much WoTC is digging into the pockets, it wouldn't surprise me.

They are already sneaking in standard playable cards in ancillary products while at the same time making them unobtainable unless you buy the ancillary product or the collector boosters.
The slippery slope is already there and we already started sliding down.
wizards already introduced a 2 class way of selling magic products with the master editions. and people were more than happy to buy it. they wondered if thats the ceiling and tried the master editions with just 8 premium walkers and people were more than happy to buy it. ofc they go next level with these collectors boosters and this deluxe edition. the problem is not wizards, it is every single person that just buys cardboard for that price and all the others saying, yea, it is worth that much. that system only works as long as people support it.
just look at the secondary market. investors artificially increase the price by limiting the supply on a more or less low, but stable demand. thats why the price goes up and some people still pay for it.
and wizards notices people are paying 100's of dollars on the secondary market for rare stuff. so they say, lets make stuff rare and ask for the cash.
