Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Prerelease Pack. Prerelease Packs are for Prerelease events, are allocated, and come 18 per case. Each kit contains 6 Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths booster packs, a foil promo-stamped rare or mythic rare from Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths, a Spindown life counter, a set of double-sided keyword counters, and a MTG Arena code card (Code card available only in certain regions).
a set of double-sided keyword counters ...that’s probably involved of the crazy mechanic maro must have Ben talking about so it’s something to do with counters
We officially know more about Ikoria than we do Theros. That’s some garbage right there. Wow Wizards. Way to seriously fail. I can’t even get an answer about whether or not Theros will have a story. Remarkable

i agree completely. i'm really sick of their approach to spoilers. its not the first time they've given us almost nothing on an upcoming set in favor of dropping hints for the set after it. it makes me wonder how confident they are in their own product. if they can't or won't drive hype for the next product released in favor of the one after that, how strong of a product is it?
i mean, is it so strong that it doesn't need spoilers or information leaked, or is it so weak that they have no faith in it and are just skipping it to focus on the next one?
given the track record, it's so weak they're focusing on the next one.
It's fine by me. I'm way more excited about Godzilla world than return-to-devotion world anyway. Theros was medium fine to acceptable-ish. I'm not sure it deserves a return set to begin with.
So we are getting a mechanic reminiscent of the Theros hero weapons as actual cards in the set right after a return to Theros. Sounds cool. My absolute favorite magic item released in the last 10 years has been the Theros challenge events with the hero cards.

The set right after Theros 2 is Ikoria right? Where did you get the info on we getting cards akin to challenge events?
Less than a month till spoiler season for Theros, talks about Ikoria instead. I wonder if this due to the Theros leak, but if it isn't then they would be shifting customer focus away from the product coming out next month to another in four months. Seems like a weird marketing strategy for them to say the least.
I remember floating around the idea of "keyword counters" ("Put a flying counter on target creature" for example, the intent being fairly obvious) in a custom card design place many many many many years ago, but it was ultimately scrapped because the idea of a bunch of different counters on creatures all doing different things had concerns of memory issues. I suppose with the advances in "play aids" being included in boosters (this was before even tokens were included in packs), the idea is a lot more feasible now.

The Hero cards that tap are basically Hearthstone hero powers (granted, without a mana cost in most cases) and there are also a few "one shot" powers that exile themselves. Personally I thought it was a great idea that could've been explored and integrated into the real game (it feels at least as "real" as the Conspiracy draft cards).
The weapons though could be kind of busted because you got to start with them in play (since they were equipment) and having a free artifact in play can matter for a ton of different things.

Tell me about it. It’s obnoxious regardless. During Ixalan they handled the leaks a lot more professionally. Now they don’t even care? I could care less about Ikoria. It’s not time for it either. Overshooting their own product is just awkward.

You're overreacting. Calm down. We all know you love theros. This isn't something to freak out about. I personally like these very minor spoilers for sets in advance because it gives people something to think about.
Double sided keywords sounds... nuts. I'm not sure how to process this in my brain.

That was my thought as well. Maro also said something when we got the announcement about "building your own monster" so that would play in the aspect.
I'd guess if it was a ebt thing it would also help with the confusion as well.

I'm talking about the building aspect of the Hero Weapons that were given out at the end. You had a few choices of abilities to add to the weapon. With keyword counters, it sounds like we'll be building creatures in a similar fashion.

One such card was among the playtest cards in Mystery Booster -- a bird that puts a flying counter on another creature when it dies.

I guess it`s a punch-out card like the amonkhet ones, with markers that have one keyword on each side to give them as counters to your creatures for the announced build-your-own-monster mechanic.
How do we know more about Ikoria then Theros? We know almost nothing about Ikoria. It isn't even confiermed to be kaiju world, it's just a very solid speculation. The only thing we know is that we will have a weird mechanic. Wow.
About Theros we know:
the plane and its tropes
the twist we'll have on the tropes/setting this time (underworld)
the protagonist (Elspeth)
the fact that some mechanics will return
all of this without aknowledging the leaks. With the leaks, we know a lot of things.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
Well you had to acknowledge the leaks to get "the fact that some mechanics will return".
Not really. Only on the returns to Ravnica have none of the mechanics from the last vist showed up. So assuming that some mechanics would return is a very solid speculation.

Shadows Over Innistrad (Block): Lacks Flashback. Which would seem like an obvious and solid inclusion alongside Madness and Delerium.
Hmm.
Battle for Zendikar (Block): Lacks Totem Armor. The lack of Totem Armor is strange as its actually well received and is praised as a good spin on Auras that make them much more worthwhile than those that come before or after it and would seem like a solid speculation on returning.
Hmm.
Dominaria: Lacks Grandeur. As Grandeur not existing is quiet strange when the emphasis is on legendary creatures at uncommon or higher rarity. In addition to the Historic and Legendary Sorcerys which also account for legendary creatures. As Grandeur coming back would seem like a solid speculation.
Hmm.

Also when excluding evergreened keywords:
Dominaria (new nostalgia set) shares nothing except Kicker with Time Spiral Block (the original nostalgia set).
BFZ Block shares nothing except Landfall with ZEN Block.
Mirrodin Block shares nothing with Scars Block.
Innistrad Block shares nothing except Transform with Shadows Block.
Ravnica infamously shares nothing with the Return or Guild Blocks.
So I recall this was a "solid speculation" to assume keywords would return.

Ahem some =/= all
Some not all huh? Funny. That is not what it looks like at all.
Kamigawa, Kaladesh, Ixalan, Amonkhet, Alara, Kylem, Eldraine, and Lorwyn are unknown factors because we haven't returned to them yet. Eldraine is on the list as its the lastest edition.
Also that any other plane and its mechanics from the weatherlight adventures was referenced in Timespiral block.
Theros is the only newest one to join the "return" club. So far its also the one who actually utilized more its past iteration's nonevergreen mechanics than any other plane with a whopping three so far in the form of Constellation, Heroic, and Devotion. Its a better Dominaria than Dominaria was when it comes to carrying over mechanics from past iterations.
Now besides the commander and the usuals
We will also see collector boosters again
But the kicker part is this
a set of double-sided keyword counters ...that’s probably involved of the crazy mechanic maro must have Ben talking about so it’s something to do with counters
So what could it be?

But I think it’s counters that adds keywords to creatures is what the crazy mechanic is and those double sided things has the chosen ones
Probably simply the most known evergreen keywords
