How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
Or she is the warden of the titans, hence warden of the chained being in her colors
I assume she was/is the warden as the one who locked them in there, but the story also refers to her being trapped in the underworld and now freed somehow.
Will Elspeth be the Pandora who opens the cage of Titans like Kratos, for a major rebellion?
It's curious though, because there's obvious many Titans already moving about on Theros, why are they free?
That could be why Ashiok is suddenly so interested in her. What could be better for Ashiok then unleashing the most nightmare inducing beings on all of Theros?

she may have been trapped as their warden, and their release liberated her. For the time being. Her role appears to be returning things to oblivion, which is what she’s escaped to do. The devotion video implied her release is linked to the underworld “leaking”
Her temple is called abandon. So she willingly took upon that role I imagine.
You think they’d reprint the Titan cycle as mythics here? Eh idk if I want to see the titans on this visit with everything going on. But with sexy boy and the 5 mono color gods, that’s 9 mythics with 6 to go. They could easily do 5 titans as well. Not that I would want that. I’d prefer to get some cool multicolor cards for mythics like another Arixmethes or a legendary hydra and other on theme cards over that. We’ll see
you guys think each color will get a rare and an uncommon saga?
Hot take: The Titans will be the villains the next time we come to Theros.
Hot take: the Titans are going to be freed because the destiny god decided to escape the underworld in pursuit of Elspeth. Ashiok wants to release the Titans to cause nightmares and mayhem on Theros.
Do those look like Eldrazi titans on the art to anyone else?
Entirely possible.
The titans in greek myth were giants who were the offspring of Gaea. The titans were imprisoned by the gods.
Yet the curious matter of Theros, is that we have giants that just roam about. Also with Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas we know of the giants here on Theros.
"Usually, the giants of Theros are born from the land itself, and draw their strength from the ancient rocks of the hills, the roots of old-growth trees, the surging waters of great rivers, or even the darkness of echoing caverns.
Kalemne, however, has chosen a different source to refine and hone her power: she offers her devotion to the god of victory and heroism, mighty Iroas. Anything but a savage brute, Kalemne is a disciple of the soldier's god, and leads superhuman troops — giants, dragons, and even angels — to glorious triumphs through strategy and superior skill"
So they take some inspiration from the source material. But are also separate from the Titans. As the havoc wrecked by the native giants =/= the havoc of the titans.
Yet the thing with the Titans as depicted in the art (attached image 1 for better viewing), is that some of these titans don't even look like giants of Theros. That if the bearded one is an Eldrazi titan and the rest its spawn, that would make it Kronos, the 'father' of these titans. (attached image 2)
Also how does the source material describe Kronos? "The god of time, in particular time when viewed as a destructive, all-devouring force."
Which if applied to the Eldrazi isn't that far off.
What’s interesting about possible Eldrazi is they’d be colorless and, naturally, wouldn’t provide devotion for the gods.
Unless the Titan sealing predates Kruphix though, he wouldn’t have been so concerned by what he gleaned from Kiora. Even if he doesn’t predate the sealing, he’d still presumably know of Eldrazi from Klothys’ mind. Gods defeating them In the past is also less cause for alarm . I doubt they’re Eldrazi but could be a creature type Titan.
The whole saga art reminds me of Temple of the forsaken gods from battle for Zendikar
I noticed the Kronos looking at one erupting in from the Abdomen of one of the other Titans. Nice call back to Greek mythology there

Someone had to make the monument to begin with. Possibly some mortal who heard of the story of how the gods imprisoned the titans. If a mortal didn't know what a Titan was, the logical conclusion would be to make the depiction featuring giants like what one sees everyday, especially if the gods wanted to keep it hush-hush.
Perhaps the worry from Kruphix was that there more of these titans.
Also true that Eldrazi wouldn't provide devotion. Which means they wouldn't care for the gods or their rules. Which the gods might fear as unlike giants, they can't just simply steer them to worshiping them and not destroying the plane.
what a bad card, lol.
doubt I'd run it on limited even.
I can think of a few reasons why a slow grapple with the past may be preferable in limited. With Devotion coming back, players may have things that care about it’s green pip while it stays around and does it’s saga thing. It also might see limited play as way to hate on opponent’s cards with an Escape costs, while also fueling your own cards that have Escape costs. Not to mention the fact Constellation is also returning, so this being an enchantment can be a bonus rather than a drawback.
nah, I really think you're trying too hard.
It's only 1 G, so.... not much for devotion.
constellation? ok, that could be relevant.
hating on escape is a double edged blade, as for 1 turn it actually FUELS their Escapes intead of hating on it.
I really think this is a crazy weak card even for limited.
sure you might be forced to play it in some builds, but that's about it.
Good. Please release the titans and destroy this boring Greek/roman mismatch plane.Send stupid broken limited wrecking auras and annoying Elspeth to oblivion. No one appreciates hard to remove gods either. Make black kill spells relevant again.

Someone has fallen victim to "I don't like this so everyone else doesn't either"-fallacy. Don't worry, it's just one set that you can ignore if you want to. No need to get all worked up about it.
People here seem to think that the titans of greek myth were simply powerful giants or monsters imprisoned by the gods like in Disney's Herkules (not helped by Wizards printing a few therosian giants and calling them titans), but in fact they were the second generation of gods between the primordial (Uranos, Chaos, Gaea etc., which were more like incarnations of their respective domains than the human-like later generations) and the olympian ones. Each generation of gods overthrew the previous one, so this is directly ripped from greek works like the Theogony (though I guess on Theros there wasn't really a relationship between the old and the new gods, I think that instead different mortal beliefs clashed in Nyx at some point and the titanic belief system lost). Since this is a very central idea of greek theology it makes sense for Wizards to adapt it.

Yep I agree with this and I did infact have a theory earlier it’s not just kozilek, Ulamog and emrakul
Heck it might be 12 more since emrakul was a 15/15 then kozilek and ulamog died now she’s lost 2 power 13/13 (emrakul essentially the queen eldrazi) and it has to be a matter of time she comes back since she can actually leave the moon at anytime since emrakul said “I’m done playing and it’s not time yet” (emrakul trapped herself in the moon so emrakul can probably get out too heard a rumor that’s gonna happen by the way)
I hope it's not eldrazi because that would be pretty uncreative, unless they can use it as an interesting statement about the relative power of (actual) gods to a plane. However it probably is eldrazi bc the lore for this game is pretty unsubtle. Either way it's probably much too soon to see them in the story again, so this is probably just a setup for return to return to theros.
Ideally this is just a trope card and that’s it. The titans being released was never a theme in mythology. Tartarus was as far from hades as the sky was from earth. They were never escaping that. Besides, I want more topworld monsters like krakens and hydras. We are also still missing Thraxes. I know a Disney movie had that theme but it was just silly. It also had hades, like most media, as the villain and essentially satan analog when in reality hades was very reserved, fair, neutral and unswayable.

They could slowly do some hinting at it for ten sets, but people already know the punchline.
What made OG Zendikar block work is that there were subtle hints along the way that lead up to its third set, Rise of the Eldrazi.
Example 1: The set symbols. Its a hedron that is slowly opening.
Example 2: Eye of Ugin. It reduces the cost of Eldrazi spells and tutors for colorless cards of high cost. But that was in Worldwake, 2nd set, there was no Eldrazi.
Example 3: The 'misprinted' Walking Atlas card. A colorless creature that appears without the artifact subtype? Oh its just a printing error.
Example 4: Eldrazi Monument. Debuted in Zendikar. We had no idea what an Eldrazi was. Just that were gods that were slumbering. Maybe some Cthulhu vibes.
There is plenty more of these from that block, but the reason the punchline worked then but it won't work again, is the most important rule when it comes to Cthulu/Lovecraft games: "You don't say to the players 'We are playing a Cthulhu game', you instead drip-feed the oddities and mask it." Now that the players know of the eldritch threat (Cthulhu/Eldrazi), the surprise is actually expected if there is anything that fits the criteria.
You want to know what I think is more spooky than Eldrazi? Phyrexians. No, not those ones on New Phyrexia, they are caged in their own plane unless they are gifted or created a planar bridge. The Phyrexians that existed from Yawgmoth's time on a plane we don't know and was also the birthplace plane of Elspeth.
Well another big bad force in Theros. Now show a bit more love about the story of the Archons of Theros that once ruled the world and were stoped by Kynaios and Tiros and possibly others. I mean, they threw a bone to us, they told the Archons ruled the world. We are in the Underworld, right?
why does a green card have three black abilities? the encroachment of green at the expense of other colors are getting more and more out of control.
This card is literally Grapple the Past stretched over three turns.
Black can't return lands from the graveyard as well.

"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Everyone hating on this card, I'm not. It enables the uro you're going to cast on turn 3 and escape on turn 4.
Uh... Somebody said this card should be black? Dredge is both a black and green mechanic. Graveyard recycling is a big part of green. Eternal Witness. And exiling graveyards to gain life has been done many times. Scooze.
View this as a utility card and you will identify how good it is. Take that 1/1 black drop that Mills 3 etb and dies, for instance. It's not gamebreaking, It's an enabler. Just a solid enabler that RAMPS ESCAPE. Hell they might even bolt your turn 3 creature, and u just get it back. This will be a 2 for 1 often enough.

Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest WUR Voltron Control
Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun WU Unblockable Mirror Trickery
Ra's al Ghul (Sidar Kondo) and Face-Down Ninjas
Brudiclad, Token Engineer
Vaevictis (VV2) the Dire Lantern

Something accured to me what if these are also false images and just end up being more eldrazi titans
Either minor or good titans
Titan of eternal fire is Prometheus, a good titan
Bearer of the heavens is Atlas. He is already punished by not being able to move
Erebos's titan, well... i don't think i have to explain this one
