Okay what a fun way to have Achilles and another kinda different but in color design for RW.

Achilles! Such amazing art and a neat effect with a unique take on the flavor. Isn’t this the card maro designed for original Theros that didn’t make the cut?
Love the Achilles reference. That protection is dripping with flavor and makes for very interesting gameplay. I like that is isn't just protection from creatures with that converted mana cost. If you want to launch a kill spell at Haktos it also has to have the right converted mana cost.
Also, Give us "Patroclus" so we can send Kynaios, Tiro, Haktos and him to gay brunch at the Nyx Cafe. =P
No haste? And rules nightmare. And colour hungry. RW gets crap legend yet again.
hmm. Haste would have been fair. But like green creatures without trample, it may be redundant. Not that I mind redundancy of keywords if it guarantees them.
Would the protection prevent him from ping effects from say, staff of nin?
I like it, not breaking new grounds as far as Boros Legends goes but it's flavorful top-down design and it's powerful. In Standard, works very well with Nahiri, Storm of Stone to ensure random critters won't kill him in combat, making him near unkillable by anything but removal compatible with the die roll.
Also, rules people: Is there any way to avoid the second ability choosing a number? I'm not a rules guy but I assume it's not worded as a triggered ability so Hushbringer doesn't works. How about Manifest? Would flipping him over make you roll the die?
He seems amazing to me, but I am unsure about his protection. Is he then always immune to CMC costs of 1, 5, 6, and higher? If so he seems like a freaking powerhouse.

Hmmm good question
Is it all convert mana cost besides one of the 3
Or is safe from only 2 out of three of those mana cost but gets hurt by everything else that isn’t one of those numbers

Manifest would work. Humility would also work. In those cases, he essentially reads "~ has protection from each CMC except for <undefined>". The rest of the ability should work just fine even if that number is undefined. The rule that governs this is:
706.7a. If an ability causes a player to "choose a [value]" and a second, linked ability refers to that choice, the second ability is the only ability that can refer to that choice. An object doesn't "remember" that choice and use it for other abilities it may copy later. If an object copies an ability that refers to a choice, but either (a) doesn't copy that ability's linked ability or (b) does copy the linked ability but no choice is made for it, then the choice is considered to be "undefined." If an ability refers to an undefined choice, that part of the ability won't do anything.
I don't believe that this stops the ability as a whole; it just stops the "other than" part of it. We might need to wait for the Release Notes to be sure, but it seems that the rest of the ability should still work.

My understanding is That he has protection from all numbers other than the one selected at random
He has protection from every CMC from 0 to 16 (or 1,000,000 for Gleemax) except for the one chosen. So, he will always have protection from 0, 1, 5, 6, etc.
If he had haste he would've been more fun imo. So This can be pretty swingy in limited out of nowhere. You probably want a 4 with the numbers to avoid Stomp and Swift End as far as standard goes.

Yes. If it gives him protection from all numbers other than the chosen one, which would make sense since Achilles has a very small point of vulnerability, you couldn't target him with Staff as he has protection from 6.

I was thinking 4 as well, as it also dodges Deafening Clarion and Flame Sweep. The only damage-based sweeper in 4 will be Storm's Wrath? Also, should he get protection from 3, you could Deafening Clarion and still attack with a 6/1 Lifelink. That seems strong. Also, its funny to me that is name is Haktos because it reminds me of the Hekma, which is also a form of protection in the MtG world.

Actually now that I look at the card that is infact correct
That makes him a whole lot better he’s almost Progenitus protection
That’s gonna be fun to throw in double strike and trample for those creatures that can block
Protection from each cmc other than the chosen number? That is the most interesting effect I have seen in quite a while--your opponents probably can't target him but you might not be able to protect him in case they have the correct removal in hand. Vulnerable to sweepers, but then so are most other creatures.
