One, reprints have to keep the same name, and an oubliette is not particularly Greek in origin. It's a French word.
Two, cards in Standard-legal sets follow the modern color pie and the ability is now a white ability, not a black ability.
That's why it's not in Theros Beyond Death. I am happy to say we found a way to template it so it can fit on a card (that's the real reason we haven't done it for so long), and it is planned to be reprinted in an upcoming product.
It’s finally gonna drop like a stone in price for pauper. My money is on commander legends is where we will see it
(Speculation thread made to think of where it will be spotted)
gavin was saying exactly the same thing months ago. still no details. i expect it to be in limitedvrun product like lair and not drop in price. this way i can only be positively suprised.
and anyway we needed that reprint when mbc was considerable part of pauper meta. now it's too late. there is not a lot of mbc in the meta and oubliette become more of a meme / poster child of how bad wotc reprint policy is.
Considering they could have easily printed it about a dozen times in various limited and non limited/standard sets/products it's really just about time.
i don't really think it being a french word should bar it from a greek themed set given how many words english borrows from other languages, but sure okay.
either way, its long over due but i'll believe it when i see it.
Still utterly fails to explain why it wasn't in Modern Horizons like tons of people were asking for but ok.
A better question would be to ask why anybody though Modern Horizons would be such a natural fit for it in the first place. The damn thing is near unprintable. For one, it's a relic. Not only does it predate the modern color pie, getting an effect normally reserved for white, it does so with a massive wall of text. The 2-part Oblivion Ring template has been dead for years, so there's no way something with it was going to end up in a product that was supposed to represent the future. All of that text exists to serve a weird aura/counter preservation mechanic that, respectively, results in a wall of text or has been written much more elegantly the few times it has appeared since Oubliette's printing. All told, the sheer number of reasons to not reprint it is damning. It would probably just be forgotten if it wasn't printed at common.
Folks should be happy that Wizards is thinking at all about how to reprint the unreprintable, not get mad about not jamming cards where they obviously don't belong.

You are correct in every aspect. But don't you think that wotc should just said exactly what you said instead of repeating multiple times "we are working on it" without any indication that they do?

If they actually had no intent of reprinting it then yes. Saying it's an awful outdated card and they have no intent of reprinting it would have been a possible response. But apparently they want to reprint it so they said they are working on it. The problem is that they say "we are working on it" and people hear "it's in the next set" when what it means is "We've heard this a problem that we have interest in addressing but remember we work two years in the future so don't expect anything soon".
I'm curious why people seem to be fascinated with this card so much, from what I can understand it doesn't seem particularly good? It's an oblivion ring for creatures but any enchantments or counters that were on the creature also come back ,if the card is ever removed?

Its a powerful effect in pauper that black normally wouldn't have access to and was inportantish in a devotion build sometime ago. Also its crazy expensive for a common.

Like user_938036 said, but also its not even a RL card. Which it not being reprinted seems a bit weird, only reason it hadn't would be because its outside of black's current color pie.
the major issue is how wordy complex and out of the color pie the card is and how it makes you keep track of everything on that creature
the entire updated text is
When Oubliette enters the battlefield, exile target creature and all Auras attached to it. Note the number and kind of counters that were on that creature.
When Oubliette leaves the battlefield, return that exiled card to the battlefield under its owner's control tapped with the noted number and kind of counters on it. If you do, return the other exiled cards to the battlefield under their owner's control attached to that permanent.
Honestly their just going to use text similar to phaseing to clear it up.
Just going to have it treat the creature and everything attached to it as though it doesn’t exist until the enchantment leaves the battlefield.

I think people make this assumption because wotc is doing a lot to spin hype and give away the least amount of information possible. I would understand if that was the first time wotc was not clear about Oubliette but exactly the same thing surfaces from time to time and wotc is not doing anything to make their statments clearer next time they say anything about reprinting this card. And other reprints as well for that matter.
They are always so vague with this stuff, and probably for good reason. Why? It excites people and gets them going. They are master wordsmiths akin to Donald Trump.
Most likely it's in a Secret Lair set. If this is a white ability chances are it won't be in any format-legal set even in things like Commander et al.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
If they put it in a Secret Lair, that's a clear sign they're just completely divorced from reality.
Would it? Isn't it exactly the type of card for secret lair? Quirky and useful, lacking wide appeal but very wanted by a small subset of individuals. That sounds like exactly the kind of thing to be put in secret lair.
What 'should' be put in secret lairs if not this kind of card?
With the leak about keyword counters from Ikoria, Oubliette could be a decent fit for Ikoria, to be honest.
It comes at 2 devotion to black for Theros synergy, then removes a creature without removing the keyword counters from it in the case the creature returns to the battlefield.

I don't know, may be cards that have actually available counterparts from sets with a wider print-run than one of the first set ever printed that had a print-run smaller than the smallest recent set and never saw a reprint in 26+ years?

How would oubliette fit in a plane that looks identical to zendikar
And know them oh yea like they would put that Uber confusing card in a standard set
