Back to normal is very easy to explain.
Back to normal would be focus on the game, focus on the product with a sound plan not a money making scheme or lack of discipline/patience. Focus on building a team based on competency not on reaching some type of "woke" quota. Focus on story line that is composed of quality material not filled with pandering fluff. Focus on character building void of irrelevant clearly political fluff to build "inclusivity". This whole "equity" thing is unreasonable and very obviously flawed. Equity has no end game, there is no measurable amount of "equity" that is sufficient to the "woke" crowd that has taken over this game and you know it. What you mean by equity is advantage or special treatment so dont disguise what youre really asking for. I dont need to be empathetic to anyone. I respect everyone and thats enough. You all are too empathetic, youre drunk with it that no matter what happens youll never be happy with the level on "inclusivity" presented to you and we see this over and over and over especially here in this game. How many more years of this do you need until you say okay thats enough equity? Would it be best if all white males just got erased from the game? Would that be the point where the equity has quelled your empathy?
virtue signaling has its appropriate time and place and WoTC thinks that time is every 4 hours and place is every other set. I dont mind them doing it but like i said they have done so much of it that now even things that are likely innocent is seen as another political pandering ploy especially when they have a very obvious and serious political bias.
Lastly, you have to be somewhat oblivious if you think magic hasnt been suffering in terms of quality for some time now so saying im being "inconspicuously selfish" is being purposefully ignorant of the fact that the game suffers because the focus of the company is where it shouldnt be.
As soon as someone uses the term "woke" or any other buzz word I immediately discount their opinion as being invalid.
Make your argument without unnecessary buzzwords/words that are just used to get a rise out of certain groups of people. I am seriously starting to tire of reading any forums because of the constant influx of people claiming something is woke, virtue singaling, white knighting, snowflaking, fascist, racist, whatever
I am not saying the game is in a good place, I don't play very much anymore or buy product, but if your argument something is that there should not be more representation of a group because "they never had it in the past" or "go back to the good old days" etc, then grow up and evolve. Things change, and what might have been "the good old days" to you are not the "good old days" for everyone.

You're assuming that it's not possible to focus on quality and inclusion at the same time, which it is. They're not mutually exclusive.
Equity is only unreasonable if you're already part of a privileged class, and only then because it feels like your position is compromised by someone else's empowerment. It isn't. Try explaining to someone from a historically marginalized group how eliminating subordinating behaviors and practices amounts to "special treatment."
The elimination of subordinate behaviors and practices to ensure equality and fair treatment is not the same as giving someone something to "empower" them for the purpose of elevating them to a subjective level of power/popularity/status. The reason is that one is measurable and the other is not. This is the whole crux of the issue with this whole concept of "equity". Which let me remind you equity means impartial and fair. So giving one people something and another group nothing is the exact opposite of that even if you believe that one group already has an advantage or not. And I have huge problem with this because you use the word equity instead of what you really mean. Just say it. Say that women deserve more attention to make up for the lack of attention from years past. Dont say equity because thats not what this is. This is very clearly special attention/treatment to make up for what you and some others perceive to have been the lack of attention or special treatment in years past. Dont BS me with words that have been bastardized from their traditional and official definitions. Just say what you really mean and the conversation can go from there.
To further show how this whole "equity" concept doesnt apply here is that very famous or infamous illustration of equity where the 3 individuals are watching a baseball game and two cannot see over the fence thus they are given boxes to ensure they can. We've all seen it. The reason that doesnt apply here is very simple and goes back to what I said. measurability.
How many "boxes" will women have to recieve until they can see over the fence? Who determines when women have been empowered enough in the game? You? Then who decides what group will need empowerment next? This is why this whole idea doesnt work. You have warped what actual equity means which in real life circumstances are measurable due to the environmental/external circumstances that allow for the measurement to take place. In the illustration that would be the fence line. In kindergarten that would be something like reading level and to reach equity you give the slow readers extra attention/lessons until the whole class is brought up to a specific reading level. So i ask again at what point will the pandering stop? And at what point will men get the same attention? When do women have enough "boxes" under their feet to see over the "fenceline". What about the LGBT community? how many "boxes" do they have or will they get? And the black community? what about hispanics? and native americans?
This is where this whole idea crumbles in my opinion. Why? because you cant please everyone especially the ones inundated with "empathy". That is why you tell me "its not for everyone" when I complain about a product. Well that is definitely the case and ive known that for years and years. MTG is not for is definitely not for everyone and in their mission to make it so they have warped it into the mess it has become and this leads to my next point.
They are mutually exclusive when one is purposefully sacrificed for the other if you need examples of this I can happily provide them.
I think this one is a cool theme. I think it's cool that they are donating money. I think it's complete garbage they are charging aftermarket pricing for individual cards.

I'm actually pretty good at saying what I mean and meaning what I say, and as a teacher in one of the most impoverished cities in the U.S. (top 3), I'm also well aware of the difference between equality and equity. You're right, what's actually fair can be subjective. What's also patently clear is that equality is seldom fair. To wit, the great state of California expects me, as a secondary teacher, to hold all students to the same academic standards, despite the fact that those standards are targeted to a demographic wholly unrepresentative of what I deal with on daily basis. The vast majority of my students are Hispanic, designated English Language Learners (including a few Asians), or to a lesser extent African American. Here, in the biggest city/district in the largest county in the entire nation, students living with only one of their birth parents, another relative (usually grandma), in foster care, in multi-family households where kids are stacked up to 10 in a room with limited bed space, or even homeless / living out of a car - that, THAT is the norm, not the exception. These difficult homelife scenarios have a calculable spillover into academic performance, from chronic absenteeism to aptitude driven behavior. An equitable solution for our woes would be to receive a lot more funding than more affluent areas to compensate for these social deficits. An equal solution would be to continue treating us and our students exactly the same as everyone else, which has led to demonstrable and obvious success for middle class white students, and a self-perpetuating culture of poverty here in my home district. So yes, there's a bit of grey area about what makes something truly equitable, but we shouldn't shy away from that because the concept is difficult, or because we have differing opinions of fairness. The people who lead those difficult lives - through no fault of their own - deserve better than for us to be quibbling over definitions, especially if the express purpose of our disagreement is to soothe a person's insecurity over losing their privileged status. We can all have cake, it just takes a little extra "special treatment" to get everyone to the same table.
I honestly don't know what you think I'm insinuating when I talk about equity, but I'm not an armchair White Knight. These issues are real, and I live them.
Artwork is amazing, but please please don't spawn more broken narset edh decks. That card was broken before it saw print. Other ladies are fair, even though sisay is boring
Could everyone please shut up about “virtue signaling” and all the other terms that act as a thin veil for you not liking women very much? If this product was all legendary male characters to celebrate Father’s Day or something none of you would have any issue with it.

Indeed they are real and you express real concerns seeing real world issue first hand of this. Whats somewhat ironic is during desegregation of schools some people said that this very thing would happen and they were called racist. Granted some indeed were. But there were some who were not and knew that mixing all students like that would cause some to fall behind severely and some to excel. Just as you point out above. This is a perfect example of how some forced "diversity" and "equality" measures actually lead to some very measurable, and significantly damaging repercussions. Now I am not advocating for desegregation but we observe how empathy at all costs has lead to some very poor decision making and that has had lasting negative results in something this imortant. Its actually very observable and some such as Dr. Umar Johnson have demonstrated how young black students would excel if they were not in a mixed class or lead by a white professor in fact he actually advocates to segregate schools so that the standards could be more specified to a people, a culture, and group interest. I implore you to listen to him though he is somewhat radical he does bring very many reasonable points to the table which merit an ear. I dont necessarily agree with him but it would be remiss of us not to acknowledge how instituting "equity" or "equality" and sacrificing quality over empathy has been for the most part damaging to many people. You see it first hand. This is indeed a touchy and sensitive topic and the correct path is very difficult to see as there are many variables but the fact remains things like schools have tools in place to observe equity and who needs help or not. MTG and media such as this does not have anything that we can use to measure a level of "empowerment" thus we are left here to observe the continuous pushing of propaganda that some deem needed and others deem excessive.
California is a mess. I have alot of family there and its very clear what these types of politics has done to that state yet many seem to vehemently defend this push instead of stepping back and recognizing that all this empathy has lead to alot of poor decision making. I agree many people do need help that is for sure. Someone always needs help and that will be a fact for as long as humanity exists.
And im not thinking youre insinuating anything you just said it yourself. You believe the kids or that system deserves more money because they are in a bad position. So theres that but again that money would go to making a MEASURABLE difference IE school performance, school funding etc etc. I think its interesting you put in details such as "no fault of their own" bc its very important for you that i feel some type of way or that it be known that "theyre unfortunate and its not their fault". Well yea. Things are indeed unfair, life is unfair and no amount of equity work or little card board drawings are going to change that no matter how much you believe that it will. Ill tell you this though its more likely the kids parents faults than the fault of that white privileged guy across town who you want to tax for that extra money though.
This is seriously the dumbest conversation y’all are having. If you don’t want a product, don’t buy it and move along.
If you have an issue with representation you need to deal with some personal things and move along. Stop creating issues that are yours alone ha. This community man...

Ah but you can't just use the tired "Not every product is meant for you" line as this one is tied to a charity. So by not buying it, you're not supporting charities. Unless that is, you decide to donate $25 to those charities in March.
I'm not saying you should, but you are really in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation with this particular SL.

No one is in a “damned if you, damned if you don’t” dichotomy. It’s a completely made up dilemma. No one will be judging anyone else for not purchasing this product. If you like the product, and wish to support the cause then this product is for you.
No, not every product is for every player, why does that logic not apply here? I’ve never bought a Secret Lair product and don’t plan to start now. Does not buying this particular one make a misogynist, I think not.
I agree with OblivioneOne, if a product is not your cup of tea, just don’t buy it and move along. Not sure what all the *****ing is about.

No one is in a “damned if you, damned if you don’t” dichotomy. It’s a completely made up dilemma.
Ah but its not made up.
If you don't buy this OR don't donate to charity, that says you don't support charity events according to other people.
Also if you don't buy, if price trends for singles from past lairs are to be believed, then you would have to pay more for individual cards from this secret lair than if you had initially bought it. The only one excempt from this, is literally the goblin one called "<explosion sounds>".
No one will be judging anyone else for not purchasing this product.
Only sith deal in absolutes. Saying no one would judge you is so blatantly wrong. We as humans judge people all the time, even on a subconscious level.
No, not every product is for every player, why does that logic not apply here?
Because its tied to a charity which also benefits other people than yourself. Other ones were purely for the sake of the buyer.
And based on your own words, you would not bother buying a secret lair and in turn donate if it was to help support other types of charities such as "Doctors without Borders" or "Cancer Prevention" if that was what the secret lair proceeds were going to.
You are damned if you do buy this, as you support wizards. You are damned if you don't support a charity event. The only work around is literally going out and directly donating to that charity without supporting wizards for an amount of at least $25.
You can rant, you can rave, but don't blame us consumers for pointing out what is happening here. You call it *****ing, we call it pointing out the cold hard facts.
If you don't buy this OR don't donate to charity, that says you don't support charity events according to other people.
And? I don't see how that is a "damned if you don't" scenario. What if I don't care about charities (and, unless they are about animals, I don't). I am mature enough to understand that if I choose not to purchase this causes other people to feel I don't care about the girl scouts, then fine. Because I don't. I have no problems with my viewpoints or other people knowing them. And I certainly don't care about whether they think I am heartless (or, whatever) for not buying this for that reason.
My reason to buy this, or not buy this, rests entirely on my selfish reasons. I don't care if wizards makes money and I don't really care if the charity gets money.
So, no, this is ridiculously far from a "damned if you do/don't" dilemma that it doesn't even play into my decision.
I realize I don't speak for everyone, but guilt or judgment is unlikely to be a factor in purchasing this for a number of people. If they choose not to, there are literally no repercussions. If they choose to, there is likely only the repercussion of wizards continuing this trend, but I doubt they have any plans to stop now. They obviously had these all planned months ago.
Wizards: [Releases a new monthly series of limited-time offer products as a drop] Detractors: "Wizards are you selling singles now?" Defenders: "nOt EvErY pRoDuCt Is MeAnT fOr YoU."
Wizards: [Keeps releasing more products and product lines at an accelerated rate] Detractors: "Wizards slow down, I'm getting burned out by this, I only got so much income." Defenders: "nOt EvErY pRoDuCt Is MeAnT fOr YoU."
Wizards: [Wizards raising the prices] Detractors: "That is really greed of you wizards, can you tone down the greed?" Defenders: "nOt EvErY pRoDuCt Is MeAnT fOr YoU."
The “cold hard facts” are; WOTC is releasing and new product, and some of the proceeds are going to charity. Every other consideration is a matter of opinion.
As to supporting WOTC, do you play the game and/or purchase Magic cards? Hate to break it to you, that’s supporting WOTC. The only way to not give then support, is to spend no money on their products and events.
Many Magic the Gathering players have this weird(to me) attitude of, “I want to play Magic, and demand cheap cards, but I don’t want to support the company that creates the game.”
Nobody that I play(ed) Magic with has ever asked about to which charities I donate, or many other deeply personal things for which it would be rude to inquire about.
What's great about this is that pretty much all of the financial success wizards has enjoyed in the last 5-10 years is from expanding the appeal of this game to folks who are not people in this forum. This game is doing great and making a %#$& load of money and a huge cultural splash and none of it has anything to do with the people in here flipping out about a product that highlights and supports women.
Y'all didn't spend enough money to force the company to only cater to you, so they had to go and find other sources. You can cry about it but that's the fact. No amount of hate-tweeting mark rosewater is going to make you the primary market target again. You are irrelevant, not because the company is "woke" or hates white men but because solely targeting you as a consumer means losing a ton of money they could otherwise be making. Not selling this product means losing money.
At this point your weird power-trips about "anti-consumer" nonsense are just white noise under the sound of the money printers.
Back to normal would be focus on the game, focus on the product with a sound plan not a money making scheme or lack of discipline/patience.
Detractors: "Wizards are you selling singles now?"
Defenders: "nOt EvErY pRoDuCt Is MeAnT fOr YoU."
Wizards: [Keeps releasing more products and product lines at an accelerated rate]
Detractors: "Wizards slow down, I'm getting burned out by this, I only got so much income."
Defenders: "nOt EvErY pRoDuCt Is MeAnT fOr YoU."
Wizards: [Wizards raising the prices]
Detractors: "That is really greed of you wizards, can you tone down the greed?"
Defenders: "nOt EvErY pRoDuCt Is MeAnT fOr YoU."
RIGHT!!!!
Liliana of the Veil
Y'all didn't spend enough money to force the company to only cater to you, so they had to go and find other sources. You can cry about it but that's the fact. No amount of hate-tweeting mark rosewater is going to make you the primary market target again. You are irrelevant, not because the company is "woke" or hates white men but because solely targeting you as a consumer means losing a ton of money they could otherwise be making. Not selling this product means losing money.
At this point your weird power-trips about "anti-consumer" nonsense are just white noise under the sound of the money printers.
Chandra, Torch of Defiance, Elspeth Tirel, Liliana of the Veil or Liliana, the Last Hope, Tamiyo, the Moon Sage, Nissa, Vastwood Seer/Nissa, Sage Animist
That would drop the price of the other printings though so that's not going to happen.
