What did everyone think of the ability counters? I wasn't expecting them to look like that but rather interesting nonetheless. Visual queues will help in games with huge ass mutated monsters or even elsewhere.

The entire set feels weird, like another card game all together ...
----
The trailer is cringe and confusing, unless the set wants to be cringe and confusing (which seems to be the case with all the confusing mechanics).
----
Ability counters are the worst idea, as the last thing the game needs is more counters to keep track of, and paper pieces flying around the table.
Gets even more annoying if a card has multiple counters, abilities and +1/+1 counters ... i already hate that simply for existing.
Its supposed to be a CARD game, not a game of counters and dice ...
----
Godzilla art is confusing and annoying too.
Its what fan-art alternate art looks like, they just charge money for it.
I already hate seeing these cards in play, as i want MAGIC cards, and not Godzilla or other franchise crap (as this will for sure not be the last time they pull that stunt).
And its not just the art, they also give the card a "flavor" name, which is just another level of confusing mess on the level of the Amonkhet pieces.
----
Feel very very bad about the set.
Couldnt hate what they did so far more, this belongs in a custom set and absolutely NOT in a standard legal one that will pollute magic forever.
How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

If you don't recall, Magic was originally designed as a "time-filler" for D&D players while they were either immersed or waiting between campaign actions (or something to that effect), so Magic is heavily influenced by those sorts of games that use dice and such only in a different way. The ability counters will be clunky yes but honestly it will help with the flow and strategic clarity of the game and allow for smoother moves rather than guesswork. And if you're worried about ability counters, that's what sealable snack bags are for. No biggie.

I really don't understand what people are concerned about over Companion. Right now the Companion ability we've seen is a very simple stipulation. The deck must have cards 3cmc or greater. Why would you need to check someone's deck before-hand? If they play a card that breaks the rules, you'll obviously know. It just mean you should make sure your opponent running this Companion card doesn't cast a spells of 2cmc or less. That seems easy to see. There's no way a card that doesn't meet the rule can get played without you ever knowing.

Youve hit every single point i was going to make. So far, i hate everything about this set. Everything. It feels like something my friends and i wouldve designed in 3rd grade, and it definitely leans too heavily into things that work digitally that just do not and should not translate to paper.
I like Mutate. It's definitely wacky and has some clunkiness involved, but I think the cool and fun factor is more than enough to be worth it.
Keyword counters bring some significant tracking complexity, but if WotC thinks they can pull it off and in the absence of public testing, I'm good with it. There's a lot you can do with them design wise, so that will be interesting to see.
Companion still feels wrong. I want to know how it's supposed to work with people wanting to check. What's the logic here for such an unusual include?
