She’s supposed to be Indiana Jones, not Dick Tracy.
I feel the art direction is wrong on Tamiyo. Tamiyo is wearing a trench coat, which is common in detective settings. If this was supposed to be Indiana Jones, she should not be wearing a trench coat.
I'd really like to know how the Venn diagram of people buying this kind of stuff and those partying and blatantly ignoring social distancing during a dangerous pandemic crisis is... I'd really like to know it.
Seriously, I can understand other drops with good and heavily played cards (the robot ones is fine as far as this parameter is concerned), but I cannot believe people can spend 30$ to buy 3 mostly unplayable cards and one rotating from Standard one month or so after they'll have them on their table... I can understand the appeal of a certain image style, but come on... well, I suppose everyone is allowed to use their money as they want.
These cards, and essentially all of the secret lairs, represent a strategy that is pretty common for companies to try. The company sees how customers take their product (which the customer loves) and customizes it. The company then says, "Hey, we can capitalize on their love for customization and try to recreate what they do on their own, do it from the factory, and charge more for it. Because, they're custom and our customers love custom!"
But what these companies ALWAYS fail to realize is that the customization is an expression of self. Even if you hire out a commission for custom altered artwork, you're still commissioning it for something that has meaning to you. So, while you're willing to pay more for that customization, it's usually not for the sake of customization itself but rather, it's for the sake of self-expression.
And that is why the model fails. You can do it for a short period of time but the customer base is very quickly exhausted or desensitized to the product.
It happened with Full Art Lands.
It happened with Extended Art Promos.
It's happening with these now too.
It's so common in the automotive industry too. The Chevy SSR and the Plymouth Prowler were both horrendously failed examples of trying to create modern, factory built hot-rods. Scion as a brand was built off this model and it's already gone.
On top of that, Wizards is the king of taking a concept that is well received and overproducing it until it's been wrung dry of all enthusiasm.
I thought these were going to be like Planar Chaos planeswalkers, and was all set to get mad about exclusive cardboard. This is just kinda meh.
Wow - that is actually an awesome idea for a commander product. At least if I am understanding what you are saying. Something like what if this event didnt happen, this choice was made differently.
Chandra, sinister flame 2BR 4 loyalty
+1 chandra deals 1 damage to target creature, if that creature would die this turn exile it instead
-2 you and target opponent discard 1 card at random. If a creature was discarded this way put it into play under the other player's control
-7 each player sacrifices all non-land permanents they control. For each permanent sacrificed you may do 1 damage to any target
(Chandra tempted by liliana)
Gideon, brazen scoundrel 1GW 3 loyalty
-1 put a 1/1 human rogue token into play
-1 for each rogue you control create a gold token
-1 sacrifice all gold tokens you control. For each gold token you sacrifice gain 2 life and gideon gains 1 loyalty

I can give you one data point, I'm definitely in the "people buying this kind of stuff" circle and definitely NOT in the other one...
I play them because theyre beautiful, not to express something. I ike to look at shiny stuff. My post was a comment that the og bolts still look better than their collector crap

"I like shiny things and art that I think looks nice" is still a form of self-expression, in the form of customization. The only way that wouldn't be self-expression is if it where the current Lightning Bolt art, because that one tends to be both the most widely available, and thus the cheapest.
But its not like i define myself how my collection looks like. Id also prefer that version of lb if it was the cheapest. Unfortunately most ppl share sense of beauty so its the most expensive
I really like Tamiyo, great Indiana Jones vibe going on. Ajani is at least stylistically interesting.
But Vraska and especially Domri are, as we Germans call it, "Augenkrebs" - eye cancer!!! What is that Domri, Old Ravnica Town Road??
Looks like reno jackson to me

If u use a cardgame for self-expression, youre a poor creature and deserve to be exploited. My5cents
