Wow - after 27 years, they finally did it - I can no longer say Word of Command has the worst art in Magic.
I actually like that art. Sure, it's really simplistic, and might be one of the few where the statement "Even my 6-year old could draw that!" is true. However, I think it fits the card perfectly and is menacing as hell! Your world is gone, it has been reduced to utter darkness, only two eyes gaze balefully at you, and a voice resonates in your soul: "!OBEY!"
Anyway, this one is... weird, to say the least, but the cards are pretty cool. and I do like that Inkmoth Nexus.
What's next? A reimagining of modern cards by Kaja and Phil Foglio? This is the ugliest Secret Lair drop so far...oh well, I've never bought any of them and these definitely won't change my mind.
If someone put these garbage tattoos on me I would stab them in the face. That spell pierce looks like a 6 year old drew it.a bunch of you knuckleheads deface your cards with autographs of artists like this garbage artist.

Ah, but your 6-year old didn't draw that!
Of course not. Word of Command was printed in 1993, so anyone's 6-year old who did draw it would be at least 33 years old now. And that random factoid is about as relevant to this conversation as pointing out that their child didn't when it was just a hypothetical could.

Well, the point is that you could claim that a 6 year old could draw a something, but that something was drawn by an artist with his or her own life experiences and the 6 year old would never have enough of those to have created the same thing. It's like 'The Snail' by Henri Matisse; there's a story for why the painting is like that, and you wouldn't get that story from looking at it.

It may not quite be Rebecca Guay, but I daresay the Folgio's have a LOT of fans in the Magic community.

If I recall directly, this is the one where if you buy all five at once, you get one of the "ultimate" fetchlands added.
Ah, but your 6-year old didn't draw that!
I do wonder if these artworks were actually drawn on human skin and then copied to magic cards. It's gross to think about.
