idk as someone who doesn't really play anymore (except for a few games of Commander or a Draft once in a blue moon) but likes looking at new cards, more frequent spoilers are kind of nice. If you feel fatigued then just stop buying, it's really not that hard.
I was proud for a bit on the discussion with Xcric and FlossedBeaver. It seems both sides have a legitimate argument just from totally different sides. Both can be right. Just hope it doesn't start devolving into a pissing match.
I happen to be more on the Xcric side on this issue. The overwhelming of product is a concern (obviously anecdotely) for a number of people. It's not about being an adult and spending your money wisely or being influenced by FOMO, I find it more to be from long, long time collectors and players that just feel that keeping up with the game they love is getting much harder and not as thrilling because you can't even enjoy it before it's on to the next.

I don’t really get the complaint about too much sealed product. I take issue with WotC releasing extremely in-demand cards in annoyingly limited ways, but releasing stuff like Commander Legends, Jumpstart, Masters, etc is fine. You don’t have to buy every sealed product. You can just buy singles and these types of products make buying in-demand cards cheaper. Complain about VIP Boosters and Ultimate Secret Lairs, not too many opportunities to get the cards you want at lower prices.

I pretty much only buy singles (minus some packs and a bundle of a set), skip collectors/VIP boosters, Masters sets, and Secret Lairs and it's getting me bogged down. There's just way too many products and by the time one comes out they are already hyping the next set two weeks later and sprinkled in is more Secret Lairs. The last few years we've added on another booster every year. I really don't want to know what comes next year.
Earlier this year when they announced Jumpstart was being pushed back a bit I sat there and though "What's Jumpstart" because there were so many products that I couldn't keep them straight. Considering how rare the packs are, I've only been able to acquire two of them, I practically forget the set even exists still thanks to the printing so far behind.

Same. The only sealed products I buy are Commander decks and the odd booster box when I want to treat my staff to a draft night, and I feel ver (as you put it) bogged down.
I maintain 12-15 EDH decks at any time and I usually build one or two new decks when a set releases depending on set themes and interesting/affordable commanders (along with, of course, rebuilding/refining existing decks to include new cards). And I haven't built a new deck since Commander 2019 and there are a ton of interesting commanders and themes that I probably just won't catch up on when in prior years, I likely would have.
That's not entirely on WotC, part of it is the pandemic and part of it was my work situation in the months before the pandemic. And I'm not sharing that for the sake of being negative on the internet (:rollout:), it's just the reality of the situation for me at the moment. The perceived barrage of new products makes catching up feel more overwhelming and expensive, and decreases my desire to do so.

I agree with the product fatigue. There is just way too much to keep up with. And the thing with buying Magic is that you often have to buy certain cards during a sweet spot window of time, otherwise if you miss that window the card explodes in price and becomes unreasonably expensive for years after. And reprint sets help almost not at all for most cards.
And can we all just recognize that posting multiple times with a bunch of quotes split up covering multiple screen worths of space makes reading threads a real slog to scroll through? Brevity is a virtue.

Is that going to somehow change the number of releases this year or next year?
Nope, there's going to still be....
-Four main sets, all with a Secret Lair and possibly another product connected to it (ex. Eldraine had Brawl, Ikoria had Commander, M21 had Jumpstart, Zendikar had Commander, and Commander Legends has Commander)
-Masterpieces returning for one set
-Two or three other supplemental sets, one being a Masters set with $10+ boosters, one most likely with a multiplayer component (Battlebond 2/Conspiracy 3) these may end up with Secret Lairs of their own
-Between 4-10 Commander decks
-A "board game" product that no one will buy, unless it's Planechase/Archenemy
-Likely something connecting to Arena
-Another set of Event decks
-Commander Collection: <color>
-2-5 Secret Lairs per month outside the crossover Secret Lairs, possibly with a bundle option and possibly a reprint of the Walking Dead SL. My guess is at least 25 SL throughout 2021.
-A super bundle of some sort like from Eldraine
-What is likely to be another type of booster for Innistrad 3, thanks to the two different set thing (look back at the last few years and see they've been adding a booster each year)
-Gift Bundle for Innistrad 3 or a holiday pack of some sort
Edit: Another Spellbook (I want to guess Nissa)
-Wild Guess - They try and push Brawl again with another four decks
-Wild Guess - They get rid of Theme Boosters
-Wild Guess - They change The List at least once
-Wild Guess - Commander Legends Commander decks will be $60-$100 for no reason.
-Wild Guess - Another new format for Arena

Thanks for breaking it all down. That is so many new products to keep up with.
After writing down just the stuff we do know and adding in a couple high possibilities even I sat there and felt bad for seeing it all. What's worse is that there is near zero exaggeration in that list, outside of the wild guesses at least. A couple may not happen, but that doesn't take away from the near 50 products they're likely to put out next year.
I even forgot to put down another Spellbook on that list.
I'm okay with endless releases, although with the pandemic this year, I have a lot of sealed product waiting to be drafted/ sleeved up and played against each other/ used as prize support in home tournaments.
From my point of view, more product means that people like me, who generally just want more Magic all the time, can get that more easily. The people who limit how much they get, or don't want it as much as me, can be picked, and have more opportunities to have a product they want released. No waiting for a year for the themes to change, there is something else new every month or so now.
I can see how this can be a bit fatiguing for the people who feel the need to get everything but don't have the means to do so. I'm not unsympathetic to that, but I also recognize it as part of life. We don't always get the things we want, or even need. And that's okay.

See, I'm in the camp of being able to get it all, but I am still tired of all of these releases. None of them can breathe before you're on the hype train again except I'm buying less and less tickets to ride on that train. I want to support the game, but I won't support this nonstop deluge of product nor this microtransaction era Magic has stepped into.
All of these products do is exhaust me not get me excited. I should never see a product be announced and go "*groan* Another ****ing one?!"
Only part of the problem is trying to keep up financially. The other part of the problem is you can't take a break for even a few months like you used to. You have to constantly have your attention on spoilers and releases and prices all the time if you want to keep up with everything or even know what is in every set that's released. Idk about anyone else but during the pandemic I had other things to worry about than looking through set spoilers constantly to even know about everything that's out.
I was always able to keep up before but now I'm swamped. There's a few sets I'd like to catch up on and there's already more and more sets and releases going to be coming out in short order. Some people may like it that way, but Wizards, I need a break every once in a while without the threat of having to catch up on a few sets while also having new impending releases at the same time.

Meh, I just skip the ones I don't want. If a product doesn't grab my interest it may as well not exist to me. I'll get the few if any pieces I want from it and move past it. No hype, no wasted energy. Honestly, I really only get hyped about the cards in my possession, not cards potentially in my collection.

And how much of this is "New" tho? A good number of this stuff is stuff they made since I remember playing back around Alara or evolved/replaced other produces (such the duel decks and starter decks)
Also;
-Four main sets, all with a Secret Lair and possibly another product connected to it (ex. Eldraine had Brawl, Ikoria had Commander, M21 had Jumpstart, Zendikar had Commander, and Commander Legends has Commander)
Zendikar didn't have commander like Eldraine had brawl, the commander decks are the new intro decks that have replaced planeswalker decks for non-core sets. Which goes back to my question of how much of this is "new" stuff since the commander decks have replaced
-Between 4-10 Commander decks
Whats with this number? If your adding the start commander decks then you need to point that out since your counting them twice on this list.

They clarified the two Innistrad set thing. The second set is the set they normally put out in Jan/Feb (so Theros Beyond Death this year) and moving it up to catch the holiday spending.

That's all the same to me.

The snarky comment is basic arithmetic. The non snarky comment is we normally have 4 or 5 commander decks a year, we've had an extra two and we'll have another two. Then when you realize they are pushing commander more and when 5+2+2=9 then that's where those numbers come from.
They clarified the two Innistrad set thing. The second set is the set they normally put out in Jan/Feb (so Theros Beyond Death this year) and moving it up to catch the holiday spending.
Well that just makes things worse and only helps what I was saying.
The number of overall products feels lower to me, they're just more desirable. We didn't get any of those Planeswalker decks with unplayable trashwalkers, we didn't get any of those weird 30 card starter decks that didn't help new players learn, no deckbuilders tool kit, no precons other than the ones mentioned, no duel decks of questionable theme and value, no Game Night, no board game. I haven't seen an accuraye overall comparison of the number of total unique products per year though, just people listing off stuff they remember, and people having different goal posts in mind when deciding which ones count and which ones are analogous to others and such.
Hmm, I definitely agree that there is too much going on with Magic in terms of products. I don't know if fatigue is the right word to describe how I feel but I don't have much desire to participate in it because it feels so... unstable, lacking in foundation. It's unfortunate but kind of what I expect from any corporation at this point, it took a while for Magic to get there but it's hitting it hard now that it has.
The number of overall products feels lower to me, they're just more desirable.
Are they though? When was the last time you ran out to go get theme boosters? When was the last time you went "Oh man, I want to spend $30 on a playset of Lightning Bolt."
We didn't get any of those Planeswalker decks with unplayable trashwalkers,
Ikoria, Theros 2, and M21 had them.
we didn't get any of those weird 30 card starter decks that didn't help new players learn,
Aren't those still given out to people at game stores? Those haven't been a thing in stores for a while.
no deckbuilders tool kit
Theros: Beyond Death had it.
no precons other than the ones mentioned,
So there were precons.
no duel decks of questionable theme and value,
The Arena Starter Kit.
no Game Night, no board game.
Unsanctioned.
Did you just forget the products that came out this year? Pretty much all of what you said didn't come out actually did. You know there's a wiki on this site you can look this stuff up.
I haven't seen an accuraye overall comparison of the number of total unique products per year though, just people listing off stuff they remember, and people having different goal posts in mind when deciding which ones count and which ones are analogous to others and such.
What? No, seriously. What? Certain products don't count when it comes to counting the products? What?
Having played since The Dark, I remember when Morningtide/Eventide came out and thinking "holy crap, 4 sets?". Remember blocks? Like a main set and 2 smaller expansions, and then a core set each year often felt too much to keep up with as a teenager/20-something.
Now it's insane. This is utterly bonkers and I guarantee it's a result of a money-hungry corporate entity getting its hands into Wizards. I hate this landscape of "big company buys a smaller company and then pumps it for all its worth". Another case would be what Activision has done to Blizzard. It's terrible, caustic, and it will kill lucrative and well-loved IPs.

I mean, I own SL Lightning Bolts, it may be one of the most played Magic cards of all time. Bad example.
Ikoria doesn't have planeswalker decks, neither does Zendikar. We've gotten less of them this year than any year in the last 5 years.
So no 30 card starter decks, right?
Ah yes, 1 set got a deckbuilder's tool kit instead of every set. That's still -3 of those.
So no set theme precons, down from quite a few of those a few years back. I remember when each set had to have 5 bad ones.
The Arena starter kit is $10, so, if anything, it is a duel deck, but not of questionable value i.e. more desirable than the thing it replaced.
Unsanctioned was far more popular than any MtG boardgames or Game Night has ever been, so also more desirable.
What is hard about this to understand? Everything I listed is either printed less this year, or is analogous but better than something they have been printing. Do you have a list of everything they've released over the last few years, or do you just feel like there have been more in some years than others? <snip>
Here is a product list, separated by year and individual component. Booster Pack Boxes are listed separate from booster packs when a promotional card or pack was attached to its purchase (barring Unstable and Iconic Masters, due to the Treasure Chest packs being primarily Ixalan, with the offer eventually extended to those two later.)
Also excluded: Promotional cards from tournaments (including pre-releases), and the Big Box Repackage promotional cards.

Been on this forum for 10++ years
Playing since '94
I pretty much only buy singles (minus some packs and a bundle of a set), skip collectors/VIP boosters, Masters sets, and Secret Lairs and it's getting me bogged down.
Hahaha, same.

And can we all just recognize that posting multiple times with a bunch of quotes split up covering multiple screen worths of space makes reading threads a real slog to scroll through? Brevity is a virtue.
You'll be glad to know that release and spoilers have been postponed for two weeks.

Also;
Zendikar didn't have commander like Eldraine had brawl, the commander decks are the new intro decks that have replaced planeswalker decks for non-core sets. Which goes back to my question of how much of this is "new" stuff since the commander decks have replaced
Whats with this number? If your adding the start commander decks then you need to point that out since your counting them twice on this list.
They clarified the two Innistrad set thing. The second set is the set they normally put out in Jan/Feb (so Theros Beyond Death this year) and moving it up to catch the holiday spending.
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Me too I could have had spoilers on the birthday as well (18th)
but when you look at it another way it gives it a chance for another good print run (unlike jumpstart)
Well that just makes things worse and only helps what I was saying.

Are they though? When was the last time you ran out to go get theme boosters? When was the last time you went "Oh man, I want to spend $30 on a playset of Lightning Bolt."
Ikoria, Theros 2, and M21 had them.
Aren't those still given out to people at game stores? Those haven't been a thing in stores for a while.
Theros: Beyond Death had it.
So there were precons.
The Arena Starter Kit.
Unsanctioned.
Did you just forget the products that came out this year? Pretty much all of what you said didn't come out actually did. You know there's a wiki on this site you can look this stuff up.
What? No, seriously. What? Certain products don't count when it comes to counting the products? What?
<snip>
