:4mana::symb::symb::symb: Creature - ElementalChroma - Stalker of Shadows' power and toughness are each equal to the number of black mana symbols in mana costs on cards in your graveyard.Illus. Daarken#48/180*/*
Actually, I think it could find an awesome casual reanimator deck.
In constructed... not so much. It's not even that good in limited. It's just all around "meh."
I just hope I can make it work somehow in my mono black control, it's a fun looking card. There are plenty of kill spells... until I get crypted...
However, the art is beautiful. Another treat from daarken. I do wish that wizards would give crap commons daarken's art. (sure there was loch korrigan, but it's only alright art.)

With all, put the same thing except with / in front of what type of tags they are (like [/card]) to close them.
Card: [card]
Hybrid: :symub: = order doesn't matter
Pros:
Black creature -- Hard to destroy
Potential for growth -- Grows alot bigger than goyf
Cons:
Huge mana cost -- Goyf cots 2, this costs 7 (really bad)
No evasion -- Goyf doesn't either, but makes up for it by costing 2
Must be built around -- Goyf gets bigger by just sitting there, this you kinda gotta build around
Splash Damage -- Too much graveyard hate in standard right now because of lark combo.
Bottom line: Nearly unplayable. While yes reanimating this dude is funny, it's likely not going to swing the game. No trample/flying means your opponent gets to chump block this thing until they dig up an answer. Either way if you don't cast this early it sucks, if you do cast it early...IT SUCKS.
Also it's not mythic cause there's no mythics in Eventide?
The thing this is probably best comparable to is something like Sutured Ghoul. It doesn't seem too hard to run a dredge/Cephalid-Breakfast engine to mill your deck, Dread Return on some Narcomoebas, and end up with a fairly large creature. 3 X remaning Dread return for 6, 4X Bridge from Below for another 12, 3 Cabal Therapy (for example) for another 3, and you have a 21/21 creature.
The real difference between this and Sutured Ghoul is that this doesn't require any extra commitment of resources. So if they off the first, you can reanimate it again at the exact same strength.

Dragon Fangs would be better than the idea I had.... Brawn. With fangs, you don't need a forest in play. Though I think that you still should play anger in that deck to make sure that your evil minion is hasty.

MTG Junky... First packs being a starter of each 4th Edition and Ice Age. Good Grief, I've been playing since 1995? Where does the time go!

this is mtgs, where occam's razor is so blunt it can't cut jello any more.
Even if it had fixed stats of say 17/17, I wouldn't pay 4BBB for it. Seven mana needs to win you the game right away, not put down a 17/17 vanilla. Players these days don't even like paying FIVE mana for a win condition, let alone seven.
Some casual decks will try and reanimate it, and somewhere, somehow, someone will swing for the win with it.

I dont mind paying 5, hell i like paying 6. I have found Twilight Shepard to be an amazing finisher.
It's utterly horrible, and even worse than utterly horrible as a reanimation target. Why go to all the trouble to animate something that's a 12/12 vanilla (if you've put it into a deck designed to make it fairly big), when you could animate something that will actually win.
I would play a seven mana kitchen fink before I played this thing.
Or find a myriad of ways to make it flying, unblockable, shadow, etc. I'm not counting it out. People counted Tarmogoyf out, but they were wrong. This is Tarmogoyf's bigger brother in the right deck. Besides, what cards can deal with it currently? Can't Terror, Shriekmaw, or Nameless Inversion it. Damnation maybe, or Oblivion Ring, but really...

Twilight Shepherd is a brilliant card because she has a delicious 5/5 body, evasion, an abusable ability, *and* she sort of "regenerates" for free. This guy, even if he was a 20/20, has no evasion, or anything. Shepherd can win you the game with a potentialy 4 turn clock, and massive advantange with her ability. Stalker will just turn sideways. Maybe he can be flung, but that's just another card that could have just give him flying or something.
To paraprase martin luther king people should be judged on the content of there character. None of this should matter and people should not care about posts. I only have 2 posts but i can already tell that im going to be a better poster than many posts i ve read.
The only thing that bothers me is his keyword ability "Chroma". I mean, what if I have something like 30 or more cards in graveyard? It will take me forever to count all the black mana symbols, and with hybrids that's even more clanky and it just makes the game slow.

now for the inevitable cycle of similarly poor creatures. why couldn't stalker be mythic? i'd have no problem in seeing less of it.

Too bad though, the art is friggin' awesome.

Llanowar Augur
Soulbright Flamekin (which could accelerate to it too)

Why would I play this card over Oona, Queen of the Fae?
