combat celebrant that is enchanted with helm of the host my question is does this really create an infinite cycle ? or does the exert rulings prevent it from doing so ?
It works. There's no rule that says a token can't be exerted. "If Combat Celebrant hasn't been exerted this turn" means "If this object hasn't been exerted this turn." To mostly not work, Combat Celebrant's ability would need to read "If a creature named Combat Celebrant hasn't been exerted this turn."
Here's a rules thread about it, because sometimes it's nice to hear that something works from MadMageQc.
How exactly does the Celebrant copy gain haste? I could maybe see this in EDH where Lightning Greaves is a thing but it looks like the two cards alone are not a combo

Well damn... I was putting the punctuation in the wrong place and reading "except that token isn't legendary. If equipped creature is legendary the token gains haste." That teaches me to read the card.
The only weak point is that the copy of Combat Celebrant which is wearing the Helm of the Host needs to survive to create a token copy at the beginning of every extra combat phase.

While the 1 toughness is fragile statwise, the equipped creature never has to enter combat. You just make the token at the beginning of combat and only attack with that one, exert the token and get a new combat step. Even if they have blockers, they will eventually all die by making a new token over and over running them to their deaths.

If this gets abused like the previous 2-card infinite combo with Saheeli Rai in Standard then prepare for one of the two to get banned.
It’s incredibly expensive, mana-wise. No chance either are banned unless a Sigarda’s Aid variant is printed. Also, the removal is better in this standard than it was in that one.
Personally, this is the type of combo I’d like to see, as it’s not degenerate and has lots of answers, but is still powerful.

Agreed. I like seeing a two-card combo that costs 11R to use and that is readily answerable because it requires you to attack much more than I like to see a two-card combo that costs 4RWU and that goes infinite just by playing the cards.
Since it bypasses legendary restrictions, this also works with Aurelia, the Warleader, which is on-color for Sigarda's Aid interactions; and with Godo, Bandit Warlord, who can search for the helm. Less significant since those are modern rather than standard, but worth pointing out I think.
I prefer this with Timestream Navigator because it is conceivable that time stream is useful outside of the combo. It's slower, but also a more guaranteed kill since it doesn't lose to one untapped creature with first strike.

I'm guessing Helm of the Host has a lot of infinite combo potential, on a scale of magnitude exponentially greater than Kiki. Be interesting to research...
