How does a creature with Wither and Trample play out?
example:
Attacker: 5/5, with Wither and Trample
Blocker: 2/2
1) Does the 5/5 deal damage as many "damage" as -1/-1's until the creature's toughness is at 0 and then trample kicks in to deal the rest of his "damage" to the opponents face via trample?
2) Does Wither override the trample and the creature only deals damage as -1/-1's?
I would imagine its option 1 because wither says damage to creatures, and if the creature is at 0 toughness, the rest of the damage would be dealt regularly via trample, right?

Thanks,
While first damage would be assigned, a creature with trample only has to assign lethal damage to the creature thats blocking, then the trample damage is assigned, so for example a 5/5 wither trample, blocked by a two toughness creature would assign 2 damage to the creature and three to the other player, the 2 damage would be replaced by -1/-1 counters.
This is speculative, but unless there's something wonky about Wither this should stand.
1) Blockers are assigned.
2) You assign damage based on Trample rules. Ex: a 5 Power critter against a 3/3. You MUST assign 3 damage to the creature, then you have the possibility to assign the remaining two damage to the creature or the player (or planeswalker)
3) Damage on stack, you get to play effects, yada yada.
4) Damage resolves. The wording from Wither seems to say that damage assigned *to creatures* is done as -1/-1 counters. Any damage ending up on players causes life loss.
By what we've seen so far, Wither only changes the result of the damage. It doesn't change any other rules associated with damage. You still assign the damage as you would any other trampling creature, but the creature will just get counters instead of damage.

I had the same thought, but figured I would throw it out to the masses for clarification.
