If you use Phyrexian Metamorph to copy Leonin Relic-Warder then target itself because the copy is an artifact what happens?
can it create an infinite loop of etb and exile or does it just get exiled.
If I'm reading it correctly it enters the battlefield and that ETB effect goes on the stack then you let it resolve and it exiles itself putting the leaves the battlefield trigger on the stack which then resolves and it comes back starting it over again.
It's a may trigger so you can stop it whenever you want
You're reading it right, and your explanation is correct. Note that because one of the steps in the loop is optional, you have to stop it eventually. Just choose your favorite big number, and you're good.
is there anything in standard worth comboing with this that can actually create a kill?
warder and metamorph are both runnable on their own, so if there's a 3rd card that's actually runnable you can wind up with an aggro deck with a built in autowin combo.
(and no, suture priest is not good enough unless one of these parts is tutorable)

Explanation, in case it's not clear: Phyrexian Metamorph + Leonin Relic-Warder is a "combo" which allows the Metamorph to exit and re-enter the battlefield infinitely.
It does _not_ allow another creature like the Exarch to do so. It triggers abilities such as Soul's Attendant's, Leyline of the Meek's, and Suture Priest's (☺☺☺☺ that card). Technically Electropotence's, too, but you'd need infinite mana for that, which makes it irrelevant.
Leyline of Vitality, Suture Priest, and Soul's Attendant have life-gain; Moltensteel Dragon and Immolating Souleater let you turn that life into damage when you connect.
I think suture priest / soul's attendant / vitality leyline is the only real combo here, and sadly it means playing bad cards just so comboing out with the weakest form of combo available will work.
Maybe it's possible to create a 'soul sisters' type build that includes this combo, but that's about the only deck I can think of where these cards would find a home together in some kind of synergistic strategy in standard.
For sure there's lots of options in extended / casual / legacy tho', and it's a fun combo because it's surprising

Well, if you want a really awful Standard combo, there's always Caged Sun naming White to make the infinitely-blinking MetaWarder a 3/3...and Garruk's Packleader to draw out your library.
out of curiosity, would this combo still work if one were to make the original leonin relic warder an artifact creature, say via liquimetal coating or silverskin armor, and then copying with clone? sculpting steel?

No. That artifact property is not copyable. You can think of it like this: clone copies the base card (there are some cornor cases though).

A copy effect copies only what's written on the original card, plus any other copy effects the original is currently subject to. Everything else gets ignored.
Also, unless there is another target for the metamorph this will cause a tie game.
Not true. The metamorph say you MAY have it enter play as a copy of something else. You can choose to have it enter as a 0/0 creature by not copying anything.
Some of you may have been in shock since we invaded Canada and Mexico, but fear not, it was for a good cause. Now that we conrol North America, we produce an extra 5 armies a turn.^_^
And the abilities of both Phyrexian Metamorph and Leonin Relic-Warder are optional, so even if there are no other artifacts or enchantments out you can choose stop at any point with it either as a 0/0 blue Shapeshifter artifact creature or as a 2/2 white Cat Cleric artifact creature.
If you have warder and grand architect, you could start the combo and make infinite colorless mana to be spent on artifacts, then use the mana to drop a golem artisan and give it haste, trample, flying, and +9000/+9000. Or use the mana to put down mirrorworks and then make a million copies of grand architect that boost each other.
Grand Architect's mana ability ability only works with blue creatures, and Phyrexian Metamorph is white if it enters as a copy of Leonin Relic-Warder. You can use the architect's second ability to make it blue, but that costs U per iteration.
It isn't an inifinite loop, you can stop it whenever you want, because the leonin ability says "you ´may´ exile target artifact or enchantment", the clause "may" let you choose to exile or not to exile the artifact
right, but with architect in play you can choose not to copy, or when you are done making a billion life you say no to its copy effect, and then it's a 1/1 blue artifact creature.
I think it would make sense to just copy the Grand Architect.

And of course there's Xenograft + Allies.
Ugh, I feel dirty even for saying this crap.

t2: Leonin Relic-warder
t3: Phyrexian Metamorph
t4-t6:???
PROFIT!!!
I'd go with the dragon or the souleater mentioned earlier. The build could be straight up white since you'll be paying Phymana for all the phy cards.

I think it would make sense to just copy the Grand Architect.
