So the +1 ability for the new Oko, Thief of Crowns cards in the upcoming set says “Target artifact or creature loses all abilities and becomes a green Elk creature with base power and toughness 3/3.” I know with Clone and similar cards, if a creature becomes something other than what it originally was(with Polymorphist's Jest for example), the Clone copies it’s original state(so if you Clone the 1/1 frog that was originally a Grizzly Bears, the clone would enter as the Grizzly Bears instead of the frog).
The question here is, would it work the same way with this new planeswalker? If so, couldn’t you use it with Clone-type cards to copy artifacts instead of just creatures?
When an effect has one object "enter the battlefield as a copy" of another object, the first object enters the battlefield with the second object's copiable values (C.R. 706.2). These copiable values, however, don't include effects (including effects of the form "becomes a [characteristic]" as found in Polymorphist's Jest and Oko's second ability), with one exception being copy effects (C.R. 706.2). In this respect, compare Oko's second ability and Polymorphist's Jest with Mirrorweave, which says "becomes a copy...", which does express a copy effect.
Note also that if an artifact that's normally an artifact becomes a creature due to Oko's second ability, it will no longer be an artifact (C.R. 205.1a; compare that ability with Tezzeret the Seeker's last ability, which says "Artifacts you control become artifact creatures...", which expresses an effect that does leave the permanents' prior card types untouched [C.R. 205.1b]), but even so, the artifact type will still be part of the permanent's copiable values (C.R. 706.2; see also C.R. 613.1, 613.1a), which copy effects such as Clone's can generally access.

So basically, it does work as roundabout artifact copy?
Yes, it does. If Oko turns an Artifact into a creature, it is now a legal choice for a creature clone. When that clone enters as a copy of that artifact, it will be just the artifact and won't be a creature.
... Hmmm. What legendary artifacts would I love extra copies of with Helm of the Host/Spark Double?
Also I lowkey want to see someone live the dream of animating and helming a sorcerous spyglass and proceeding to name the opponent's entire deck turn by turn.
