Flayer is better with persist, unearth, and (its intended use) undying, along with things like Sun Titan, and of course reanimator spells; Living Death and Rise of the Dark Realms are win conditions on their own.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Now I love this little monster and am playing him pretty aggressively as a commander. the key I've found to playing him effectively is not to view him as a combo piece, but a creature you can always play and build your deck around that. you can go infinite for sure with ashnod's altar, mycosynth lattice, and impact tremors for sure, but you'll have a much better success rate playing for value than banking on a combo. here are some cards I'm playing that abuse the fact that squee is truly immortal:

- goblin bombardment
- impact tremors
- purphoros, god of the forge
- carnage altar

yeah, Squee, the Immortal + Genesis Chamber + Impact Tremors + Thermopod + Hazoret's Monument + at least one Mountain goes infinite.
You sac Squee, the Immortal to Thermopod floating one red, then using that red and a Mountain to cast Squee, the Immortal from the graveyard due to him only costing double red from the Hazoret's Monument cost reduction. When he enters the battlefield he creates a Myr from Genesis Chamber which you then sac to Thermopod along with Squee, the Immortal to generate two red mana which you then use to cast Squee, the Immortal again. Repeat this over and over again until the damage from Impact Tremors has killed all your opponents.
