MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Based on one of Maro's recent blogatog asks, it sounds like plane-themed commander decks may not be in the cards this year. Though I think thalain was asking about a yearly Commander product themed after planes, as opposed to just one.

Lol. To me it looks like it is asking after "a set" I.E. one year's product to have each deck based on a plane. Also like how Maro seems keen on the idea as well.
Personally I'd want either of two ideas. One is a Time Spiral effect where each commander and cards do things that aren't normally associated with their colours to provide (hopefully) intriguing new cards to spice up decks in an unexpecting way. Or 2, class tribal decks. I.E decks based on Monks, Soldiers, Shaman, etc.
Although top pic would be a jund -1 counters deck. Not likely for this year but I just want my Hapatra deck to play with the Scorpion God dammit!
Although planeswalker commanders were done just last set, they're generally rather popular and making the assumption that they will have to do allied colour commanders at some point it would be a good way to fill in some of the known walkers we haven't gotten yet (commanders biggest asset imo).
Personal guesses if the stars were too alligned:
Blue/White: Azor- Assuming some ugin based deus ex machina doesn't bring his spark back by the end of WAR, commander is literally the only option to get him a PW. Deck would be pretty easily a typical control/prison deck. My other guesses would likely be Daria or Vronos but considering they made two walkers last year that both also both deal with enchantments and artefacts make them seem less likely.
Blue/Black: Leshrac- Lore revelant and I can fairly easily picture the deck focusing on stealing, copying, rising cards from others graves, etc barring LeshraC, Tvesh Sat could also fill the role pretty easily.
Black/Red: Sifa Grent- She's mostly seen using life steal and damage spells which might not exactly translate all too well to multi-player,
Green/white: Kristina of the woods-i have no idea what she would focus on, but having her somehow be a PW matter PW would be very fitting, and really amusing.
They could try tribal with a twist: This time, each deck focuses on two complimentary tribes, with face cards that care about both tribes equally and one additional legend for each tribe.
For example, I recently posted an idea for a BR Succubus Queen that cares about both Demons and Vampires, the idea being that succubi could qualify as both. She could thus be the face card for a BR Demons + Vampires deck, with a BR Demon and a BR Vampire being the other two new legends. Of course Wizards won't likely touch succubi as a concept, but I hope the example gets my point across.
This could be an excellent outlet for a BGU Naga/Snake deck (in which case the face would probably be a Naga Snake duo, or a Naga who creates/tutors a legendary Snake or somesuch). I could see a Snake Ninja from Kamigawa and a Zombie Naga pharaoh from Amonkhet as the secondary legends.
In addition to races, there are also classes to consider. Race + Class is the easiest, as most humanoid creatures have both a race and a class. Race + Race is doable as in the Demon Vampire example above, but tends to be easier with races that double as classes (Demon, Vampire, Zombie, etc.). Class + Class is the trickiest as few creatures have a class but no race, thus the face legend would likely have three creature types.
Noncreature subtypes could be fun to explore as well.
WUBRG Gates
Finally, a deck in which to include all those Gates matter cards. Multicolor Matters would be the second major theme, befitting a Ravnica deck. Alternatively, this deck primarily cares about basic land types, while the Gates would be a secondary theme.
RW Equipment
How about a Samurai legend with Bushido X, where X is the number of Equipment attached to it? Better yet, they could grant said Bushido X to your other Samurai as well, or perhaps grant then Bushido X based on their own Bushido X value (so if the Samurai legend has Bushido 3, your other Samurai have Bushido 3). I can also see a RW Human legend from Innistrad who focuses on Humans and Equipment, perhaps playing into the "pitchforks and torches" flavor.
BR Curses
Obviously a BR witch should lead this deck. One of the secondary commanders could be a Theros Nyxborn who features a Curse version of Bestow. Becurse?
GU
This would be the off-theme deck, which at minimum needs to be GU to ensure every color is represented at least twice.

This is actually a beautiful idea. I would really love for them to do something like this. What would some other good crossover tribes be?

Nice idea
If they tried second times a charm with 5 color spirits what would the second creature type be?
BR Demons/Devils and WB Clerics/Angels or Angels/Spirits come to mind. The BR card could be a Demon that creates a legendary Devil token as a sort of minion. If they hadn't just done Wizards in C17, I'd say UB Zombies/Wizards for all the necromancers, liches, and stitchers, or WU Birds/Wizards. WU Birds/Spirits would be interesting, as you could easily make a WU Bird Spirit legend for the face card.

I would be happy if they release a second R/W deck that can push the color combination a little and provide some new strategies. Wade to battle was one of the worse Commander Decks for me.
It would be cool if they could support some tribes that doesn't already got support via the commander product like dragon/cats/vampire/wizard/elves.

Fun fact the 5 color deck was originally gonna be spirits but dragons were just more popular for the fans (it’s in the o-Kagachi preview card article)
So if we do get tribes again and we do get another 5 color deck maybe second times a charm for a 5 color spirit
- The deck colors will be UWR Jeskai, UBG Sultai , BW Orzhov, and RG Gruul. These are all combination that haven't been done in C17 or C18, gives us an even distribution of colors, and gives us colors in most need of some new options for generals.
- WUR Jeskai will be aggro spellslinger, utilizing Young Pyromancer and Monastery Mentor type cards in combination with removal and control spells to get all aggro-control. Maybe they include a few Commander-oriented Prowess or Replicate effects.
- UBG Sultai will be midrange, utilizing the graveyard as a resource somehow maybe with a couple new Delve spells or Cycling Matters cards that are EDH-oriented.
- BW Orzhov will be board control, with Wraths, Life Drain effects, and some reanimation with a couple new Extort cards
- RG Gruul will be Werewolves or Hydras and plenty of reasons to want to either play multiple spells a turn or X-spell matters themed.
What about a BR Demon Minotaur deck? That'd be an interesting pair of tribes to hybridize. Imagine the face card: a towering bull demon swinging fiery chains around.
URW Warrior Wizards could be really cool, mixing swords and sorcery together. Only problem is they did a Wizard tribal deck in C17.

i haven't thought much about this years themes but last year i correctly guessed that it would be "permanent type" tribal. i really wanted a bant enchantress commander and we got one!...and i don't like her. i can't find the post where i made my full prediction but i know i guessed bant enchantments, izzet artifacts, and jund lands correctly. i don't remember what my last guess was but i'm pretty sure it wasn't "esper top of the deck tribal". this year i'm not so sure. bant enchantments and izzet artifacts were pretty easy guesses last time since there was kind of a clear void in the options available.
i'll make a random guess for this year:
- temur modal spell slinger (this is my DREAM commander, i don't actually expect it but i'm hoping)
- abzan cycling/discard
- jeskai changeling/clones (lorwyn themed?)
- u/g/colorless morph/manifest/vanilla matters/tokens
i ran out of ideas for that last one tbh but i think it sounds neat. people love muraganda petroglyphs.
If we do tribal again I want to see any of the following
WUBRG spirits
BR demons (& devils)
BGU elves (for the fans)
RG werewolf’s (sadly though flip cards are a 10 on the storm scale)
RWB knights/soldiers
W/WUBRG angels
RGW beasts/Dinosaurs (for dinosaurs merely to give us the missing links recursion and atleast one more artifact/enchantment removal Dino’s)
A actually I would love a four color dinosaur deck adding U to maya either the water dinosaurs and land dinosaurs that spend most of their time around water like a Baryonyx for example
BRG spiders (missed opportunity with thantis hope they do it for real this time)
C (remember we’re not color focused anymore) construct/golem/myr and unfortunately almost impossible dodging atleast one or more new....eldrazis probably one that allows cards with devoid to be in the deck so they can put in the less broken eldrazis
Oh bonus prediction if we do get a colorless deck I predict a pre-spark ugin card
Blue/Black: Leshrac- Lore revelant and I can fairly easily picture the deck focusing on stealing, copying, rising cards from others graves, etc barring LeshraC, Tvesh Sat could also fill the role pretty easily.
As long as the Leshrac deck contains Minion of Leshrac (It's not on the reserved list and it's long overdue for a reprint) and a couple of token generators, otherwise, I'd rather not.

Why would you want blue in an *ELF* deck? White or Red makes sense, but Blue? Seriously though, Abzan would be the ideal color combo for an elf deck, we've been needing a WBG legendary elf for a while now.
If they decide to go Tribal, there are two tribes that are a must: Elves and Zombies, they've already covered the other big two tribes (Dragons and Vampires), so those two are likely. If they decide to go with one iconic and one characteristic, it'll probably be elves and either demons or angels. Demons could go either Rakdos or Grixis, while Angels would likely go Orzhov. Elves should be tri-color, and Abzan.
The other two tribes would be up in the air, and might come out of the left field like when we got Wizards and Cats (to be fair, the cat deck was pretty fun, the wizard deck was just bad). Spirits would be a good option here, as there is a pretty solid selection of creatures with that type. The other could be just about anything, but I am thinking either Knights (three color, Mardu is likely, with a flanking subtheme) or Dinosaurs (if they'd be willing to reprint Pygmy Allosaurus, that'd be lovely).
If they go with a planar theme, they'll pick two popular planes and two less popular ones. They'd likely want to avoid Ravnica to prevent overdosing on it, but I could see either Zendikar, Innistrad, and/or Dominaria based ones. Mirrodin is unlikely as it would end up very similar to last years red/blue deck. If they skip Innistrad, I could see Ulgrotha make an appearance as one of the two less popular planes (good place to put a Serra planeswalker, or a new Baron Sengir), but Kamigawa and Lorwyn/Shadowmoor are both more likely. There is a very vocal group of people that want to see Kamigawa again, and it is unlikely to happen in Standard (understatement of the day), after all. Problem with Kamigawa is that most of the cards from the block are either severely underpowered for their cost, or so overpowered they're borderline broken (*cough* Jitte *cough*). Lorwyn/Shadowmoor however provides a lot of possibilities, it also overlaps nicely with the tribal fan crowd, as long as they skip the kithkin (*shudder*), they should be fine no matter how they do it. The deck could work as either two or three colors without issue. Downside of a Lorwyn/Shadowmoor deck is the inevitable reprinting of the Vivid lands. :/
As for the popular planes, on Zendikar they should embrace the adventure aspect, traps, quests, and landfall galore. Although powerful, the Eldrazi were never that popular, and BFZ and the three sets after (including Shadows and Eldritch Moon) gave people a bitter aftertaste due to the Eldrazi influence, and WotC are well aware of this. Still, even BFZ and Oath had some mechanics that are really fun (or at least useful) in commander, specifically Support, Converge, and Surge. They *could* go the animated land route, and it would be interesting to see, but it would be hard to make such a deck that wasn't all five colors and played poorly.
Innistrad on the other hand, provides a lot of options, but it should probably focus, at least partially, on one of the tribes. I'd Vampires are probably out, as they are still recent, as are werewolves due to DFC issues, which leaves Zombies, Spirits, and Misc. (Humans, Angels, Demons, and what not). I'd expect a lot of graveyard shenanigans regardless of how they go, with Flashback making a strong showing.
Dominaria would be a safe bet, it's been the home of the largest number of sets so far, so no matter what they did on it, someone would be disappointed in some way. If they go to Dominaria, I could see them focusing on a specific subset of blocks/sets. Like for instance the first six sets (lots of creatures with banding), Ice Age (return of the snow mechanic), mirage (flanking, phasing, and dragons), or even the two Otaria sets (I'd expect a Jeska planeswalker card in that case, and lots of flashback, more likely without Innistrad).
Anyway, just my 2 cents.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Maybe its a tad too cruel, but I would love to see a legendary Abzan Elf with basically Defensive Formation, like a very ruthless tactician character for Commander 2019.
Still waiting patiently for a good angel commander or for a Serra planeswalker... I mean, Karona, Kaalia and Lyra are all fine and dandy, but... They kind of feel wrong... Is it too much to ask to be able to play Maelstrom Archangel in an angel tribal deck?
If the Commander 2020 are tribal centered (which I doubt), I would love to see something like:
"[type] Tribal Leader" (creature cards in your deck must be [type], ignore color identity restrictions for creatures of that type. You can spend colored mana as it was mana of any color to cast [type] creatures or to activate abilities of [type]).
Pretty much a commander with a built in effect similar to Celestial Dawn, but for creatures of a chosen type and the added restrictions of having only creatures of that type.

with all this stuff about ignoring color identity it doesn't really sound like you want to play edh. restrictions are what make good commanders. you want a 5 color angel commander that gives you generic value? that's not really even a card "design"...it's just mush. the reason why angel commanders are always stupid is because of what angels are - big flying creatures that don't work well in large numbers. if you made a bunch of small angels they would just be birds. speaking of which, there are way more angel commanders than bird commanders.
The 5 colour Weatherlight with Gerrard as commander @Manite talks about sounds so cool!! I remember when I was a kid and somebody had a card with Gerrard on everybody would be like "oh cool!!!" hehe. I'm still like that now haha. Would be sick with a Weatherlight themed deck like that.

Personal guesses if the stars were too alligned:
Blue/White: Azor- Assuming some ugin based deus ex machina doesn't bring his spark back by the end of WAR, commander is literally the only option to get him a PW. Red/Green: None because they have too many
But hey more dinosaurs that will help gishath will be even better
This could be an excellent outlet for a BGU Naga/Snake deck (in which case the face would probably be a Naga Snake duo, or a Naga who creates/tutors a legendary Snake or somesuch). I could see a Snake Ninja from Kamigawa and a Zombie Naga pharaoh from Amonkhet as the secondary legends.

This is actually a beautiful idea. I would really love for them to do something like this. What would some other good crossover tribes be?
Knights / Soldiers?
Nice idea
If they tried second times a charm with 5 color spirits what would the second creature type be?

Jalira, Master Polymorphist | Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder | Bosh, Iron Golem | Ezuri, Renegade Leader
Brago, King Eternal | Oona, Queen of the Fae | Wort, Boggart Auntie | Wort, the Raidmother
Captain Sisay | Rhys, the Redeemed | Trostani, Selesnya's Voice | Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight | Obzedat, Ghost Council | Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind | Vorel of the Hull Clade
Uril, the Miststalker | Prossh, Skyraider of Kher | Nicol Bolas | Progenitus
Ghave, Guru of Spores | Zedruu the Greathearted | Damia, Sage of Stone | Riku of Two Reflections
URW Warrior Wizards could be really cool, mixing swords and sorcery together. Only problem is they did a Wizard tribal deck in C17.

i'll make a random guess for this year:
- temur modal spell slinger (this is my DREAM commander, i don't actually expect it but i'm hoping)
- abzan cycling/discard
- jeskai changeling/clones (lorwyn themed?)
- u/g/colorless morph/manifest/vanilla matters/tokens
i ran out of ideas for that last one tbh but i think it sounds neat. people love muraganda petroglyphs.

Numquam evolutioni obstes. Solum conculceris.
Pascite draconem, evolvite aut morimini.
But yeah NAYA, JUND or ABZAN Elves all make more sense.
