So, what are your predictions for the next magic set? Enemy / Story / Plane?
My biggest bet would be on:
Enemy: Phyrexia (Tezzeret escaped with a way to make them planeswalk again, karn enlistened the gatewatch to help, everything points to this)
Story: Either invade on new phyrexia (unlikely, since we should get a new world soon)
Or invasion on another world
Wich one?...
Theros (Pro: Believe in yawmagoth to revive him as a Legendary Enchantment Artifact Creature - God :D. Also: Elspeth and probably a meeting with gideon in the underworld Con: Again, no new world)
Vrynn: Descent level of technology to inflict, whished to visit by some fans, Jace survived WAR, Phyrexian invasion would set the world apart from the "Artifact set theme" that made it clash with kaladesh.
So to sum it up, my storyline prediction:
1) Phyrexia invade Vrynn
2) Then, we go to New Phyrexia and blow it up with the stylix
3) Phyrexians Escape to Theros and recreate yawmagoth to make Theros New New Phyrexia
4) We go searching for nukes somewhere else, since we can't use the stylix again (New World, introduce new baddie or bring eldrazi back)
5) We Nuke Phyrexia
i think they'll give us a brand new plane which is ginormous and under-populated to contrast with Ravnica, and keep the first set totally peaceful with no major war and if there's an antagonist they'd be a faction of high-tech meddlers or a single political underminer, rather than blatant invaders and pillagers. the story will probably establish some newer planeswalkers like the Kenriths or Kasmina and whoever she choses to ally herself with and they'd be searching this new plane for something.
that's just brainstorming though, I don't follow the story closely.
Maro confirmed that the fall set will be on a new plane, but he considers Vryn as "new" so it's not entirely out of question. Definitely no Theros, though.
Kasmina looks like she could be from Vryn. But if she was, that probably would've been mentioned in the novel and she doesn't appear at all… So I guess she's from a different plane. Maro said she was a teaser for things to come, which may mean that we'll get the world she's from earlier than the sets with Mu Yanling or the Kenriths.
I predict the next magic set to be Modern Horizons
By the way, I don't think the fall set will contain any phyrexians, because that would be a bit too close to the previous big villain, but they might be in the winter or spring sets of next year
They killed Gideon either to bring Elspeth back or make a new white walker. Either way, we're heading to Theros soon.
We're also dealing with Phyrexia one way or another. I hope we don't win there too, because they've been the insidious baddies since the beginning, they should remain a threat on the margins.
They also introduced Jace's home plane during Origins and we havent been there yet. That counts as both a new plane and some place we might actually get rid of Jace, so...sweet. Lets go.
I bet on snow world. I mean we didn’t get snow themed for soo long, and one thing I know is that when the “community” start to talk about something for too long then it is a thing that will soon be on wizard’s ears or they were the ones starting that talking.
My bet is we are now entering a storyline where planeswalkers will go hunting bolas’s minions.
And for the speculation: we are going to a norse plane with ramaz as a minor villain and the plane will have gods as well, probably with minor multicolor theme. For the story, my bet is ramaz is the Sarkhan double and he has a back plan for bolas.

Yawgmoth (and Urza and Gerrard) is dead in a way that prevents resurrection, there is neither a body nor a soul to resurrect. The firing of the legacy weapon obliterated Yawgmoth's body and soul, he is gone and not coming back in a Standard legal set, ever.

It woudn't be a resurrection and also not Yawgmoth himself, it would merely be a projection of what he is believed to be by the phyrexians - an enchantment. Ashiok proved that its quite easy to create new gods on theros

Nearly all the Phyrexians that knew of Yawgmoth died with him on Dominaria or when Phyrexia got blown up by the Titans. The only thing they learn from the glistening oil is that their "god"/"leader" is called "The Father of Machines", which is what the Phyrexians of Mirrodin/New Phyrexia tried to turn Karn into before he got a new spark. The Phyrexians of New Phyrexia have no concept or knowledge of Yawgmoth.

Not standard
Yawgmoth chances is modern horizon (sets) or commander 20## sets
But yea yawgmoth will never resurrect (and ugin and yawgmoth are related is a idiotic theory as well all because ugins called “the ineffable”)
But I do think the phyrexians coming back is infact the next villain later after a few sets
Oh by the way for eldrazis coming back I am still certain it’s simply more legendary titans outside ulamog, kozilek and emrakul

There is no doubt that the Phyrexians will return as villains sooner or later, but not soon. As for Yawgmoth himself, the most likely place he'll appear, if he appears this year, is Modern Horizons. As a monoblack card.
As for people conflating Ugin and Yawgmoth, they're not that bright. They are very different characters after all. Ugin wants to preserve the multiverse, Yawgmoth wanted to rule over it.

Agreed
But I will tell you for yawgmoth
I was actually more on the line as a pre-god form yawgmoth and with a rediciously hard condition to transform into the yawgmoth we all know.
Ugin works on what is best for the Multiverse. Ergo if the Eldrazi Titans are necessary then he is fine letting Planes Die.
He is not a multiverse conquerer.
Yawgmoth and Nine Titans could get cards in Modern Horizon or Commander Decks. But coming back in the actual story not unless we get a flash back arc or unless we get to do a what if or see an alternate reality...which given MTG being pretty superhero comic inspired right now is possible.
I would really like to see more of alternative realities being worked. Planar chaos was a fun set with lots of odd things happening that I wouldn’t mind to see again.
For old lore, I would like if they did more of modern horizon style sets but with old lore. But because of arena, I think a core set with 9-10 planeswalker, a mono black god creature, 10-20 legendary creatures and 8-9 artifacts would be much better to showcase the story of magic and the craziness and fun of the game.
It will be a planet of hats, tired and worn out before we even rip a booster, easily digested and probably analogous to some culture on earth at a very superficial level (Viking world, Mexico world etc.), designed by number crunchers and a couple of artist types in roughly the same way movies are designed by committee. Superficially interesting with plenty to hook those invested in the story.
As usual the fact they have to design for five colours will mean that the plane will have some variation in races, guilds etc., but it won't actually feel like a world, because they won't be able to build it over a number of sets.
There will be lots of EDH cards, nothing worth noting at 1cc, and weak spells, with more flexible answers that cost 3 mana, and very little to no protection, no shroud and little hexproof and no landkill at 3 cc. So business as usual...
As usual there will be feedback survey about it, as usual it will say "how important to you is it that we have great art?" without bothering to ask you if you think the art is great. At least they won't wheel out Sam Stoddard or similar to say "Emrakul is really fun, its a real blast", so be grateful for small mercies.

People with belligerent signatures are trying to compensate for something....
In some ways not printing most of the major characters especially walkers back in the day works out for them not to mention most of those cards printed back in the day were terrible giving them chances to update lol.
Most interesting thing is how they integrate Colors.
By the way, I don't think the fall set will contain any phyrexians, because that would be a bit too close to the previous big villain, but they might be in the winter or spring sets of next year
That's the one problem with the whole "Tezzeret invades planes with Phyrexians" story idea - it feels like a rehash of Bolas's Eternals plot. "Now I'm invading planes with METAL Zombies!" Not saying they can't ever do that, but it might be a good idea to give other villains a chance to shine first, maybe let Magic create its own Legion of Doom for the Gatewatch.
I wouldn't be surprised if Teyo, Kasmina, and the Wanderer were plants for future sets. Davriel could be too, but just as likely he returns in Innistrad 3.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
I'm going with Garruk on Viking world for a set or two then we see the gatewatch going to Theros to bury Gideons armor as the next return plane.

"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
If we are going into a viking world for 1-2 sets then i can totally see them making a "masterpiece series" great warriors with iconic and powerfull creatures with viking world flavor. Snapcaster Mage as a mage in midle of war casting lighting on the warriors. Noble Hierarch this one i don't think would fit in a pure viking fantasy world but would be a high $ card as well. Reflector Mage in midle of a batle reflecting a unsummon on another viking. (a low price card that sees plays in formats) Meddling Mage idk, stoping a batle, freezing a horde that was ready to attack. Dark Confidant maybe another card focusing a guy side by side with a more influential figure, that looks more powerfull. Death's Shadow could be a berserker killing people with bare hands but his skin are in Shade's Form Tireless Tracker just a viking checking tracks Bloodbraid Elf prety much like the arts already out Grim Flayer a warrior cutting out the skin of the dead and putting them in his armor plates or using them as it.
probably 5 new cards from each set as well, if there is a god cycle they probably would enter i guess.
If Tarmogoyf didn't had a new art in ultimate masters or that art wasn't in a snow landscape i would guess they could fit it in as well, maybe goyf was part of a masterpiece set but was pulled out and the art reused in ultimate masters along side the Gamble and other cards that looks like Ixalan themed masterpieces.

Yep totally agree with this
He was mad they killed kozilek and ulamog because he didn’t have enough information on the eldrazis which is the question know as “what was the purpose of their existence/creation” in the mtg world and he’s right too
As a matter of fact eldrazis are pretty much dinosaur aged so they ben alive millions of years before each member of the gatewatch were born heck before ugin and bolas were born
He’s no villain
And the old phyrexians in general are too powerful for standard if they want to make the, they strength fans want it has to be a supplement set (modern horizon sets/commander sets/vice etcetera)
I think it's time for magic the end game. Alpha/Beta/Unlimited block. The game feels a little played out with it's story and characters. A reboot would help. Like Spiderman the 4th remake and reboot. It would have been better if Nicol Bolas had won. Then all of the current character are dead. Nicol Bolas is the god king. Then Nicol Bolas runs into a new plane and new planes walkers that he shouldn't have messed with. Or Nicol Bolas could have died as well. The planet of Ravica could have just exploded. That would have been nice.
If I can't kill of all of the current planewalkers then snow plane.
MTG is literally more popular now than it has ever been, I sincerely doubt they are going to reboot such a success.
As for what walkers we are going to see in the next set, I am hoping we get more of Kasmina, from what little we've seen, she's as snarky as Jaya, and that is friggin' amazing. We need more snarky redheads in MTG.
Other than that, I am fully expecting a couple of the planeswalkers that were not in WAR (besides Dack) to show up soon. Probably Mu Yanling and/or Garruk. But we have to remember that Garruk is no longer directly hostile towards other planeswalkers as long as they leave him alone, with hostility towards Lily being the sole exception. If he sees her, he will try to kill her.

Most interesting thing is how they integrate Colors.
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Snapcaster Mage as a mage in midle of war casting lighting on the warriors.
Noble Hierarch this one i don't think would fit in a pure viking fantasy world but would be a high $ card as well.
Reflector Mage in midle of a batle reflecting a unsummon on another viking. (a low price card that sees plays in formats)
Meddling Mage idk, stoping a batle, freezing a horde that was ready to attack.
Dark Confidant maybe another card focusing a guy side by side with a more influential figure, that looks more powerfull.
Death's Shadow could be a berserker killing people with bare hands but his skin are in Shade's Form
Tireless Tracker just a viking checking tracks
Bloodbraid Elf prety much like the arts already out
Grim Flayer a warrior cutting out the skin of the dead and putting them in his armor plates or using them as it.
probably 5 new cards from each set as well, if there is a god cycle they probably would enter i guess.
