Wizards released the Core Set 2020 packaging, and it's got 5 planeswalkers on the booster packs! Makes sense for all of them to be mono-coloured.
Ajani and Chandra already got their cards previewed, so we may as well concentrate on the other three. I'm not the biggest fan of Vivien (her anti-civilization shtick in the stories rubs me the wrong way), but I can see why they're promoting her. Sorin going mono-black makes sense to me since he got no help last trip to Innistrad (and got screwed by Nahiri to boot). But the biggest news is...Mu Yanling is back!?! Dang, I thought Wizards would be brushing off the Global Series planeswalkers for longer! (I thought Jiang Yanggu being in War of the Spark was aw shucks levels of cute, though, and an encouraging sign.)
They pretty much stated when they created Mu Yanling and Jiang Yanggu that they intended to use them going forward, so I am not really surprised to see her. Particularly not after seeing her counterpart in War. Plus they are aware that people are starting to have Jace fatigue... So it was basically Mu Yanling, or another primary blue walker, and since both Tezz, Narset, Tamiyo, and Teferi were all in War, as was the other new blue walker Kasmina, then it made sense for her to be the chosen planeswalker for M20.
As for Vivien, she has started to grow on me, particularly after the flavor text from Gigantosaurus made had her channel Steve Irwin. Personally I'd rather have had Nissa, but I am still glad they are shifting focus from most of the Gatewatch for a while. We need a breather after the Bolas arc.
When it comes to Sorin, I am a little surprised to be honest, I'd have expected Davriel to be chosen instead, to help promote the new character. But it was a pleasant surprise. But it makes sense, they still have a fairly limited number of potential monoblack walkers to use, and with Lily being a main player in the latest story arc, picking one of the others for M20 was always more likely. And pretty boy Sorin does make sense as he is fairly popular and he is a vampire, which is a fairly popular tribe.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

Speculate away on what the cards do! I guess the jokes of Sorin's planeswalker card being stuck in a 0/4 Wall aren't so likely to come true anymore....
