It can be difficult to breach virgin territory without incorporating something familiar as well. I would opt for half-and-half, where one Commander tries something new for its colors (GW Equipment) and another plays into a familiar theme with no formal commander (like GW Cats).
Personally, I'm hoping we eventually get a dedicated RW Equipment legend. Maybe in a deck full of Dwarves, Equipment, and Vehicles? Then they can reprint Depala, Pilot Exemplar and Sram, Senior Edificer. Of course I'd be happy to see Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer get another reprint in a RW Equipment deck.

They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
At least one double sided Commander card where it flips when returning to the Command zone. Each side would have a manacost and you can only cast the side that is face-up.
How about Magic's current most popular planes? Mirrodin, Ravnica, Zendikar, and Innistrad are the current top four to my knowledge.

I'm not sure about themes, or if someone else has already posted something similar, but I have an idea involving partner commanders. If they were to make a commander set with 5 decks, each deck could have 3 potential commanders with partner; two two-color and one mono color. Decks would be allied colors, bringing the total count of partner commanders available to 30, with 2 partner commanders in every two color combo, and one in each color. This would make all sorts of new options, especially for building 3 color decks with partner commanders.

Im expecting the face legends to feature a new mechanic and each of the decks will be built around an application of that mechanic. Exactly as experience was if you ignore the enemy color theme. So this would mean the decks could be any color or theme.
I would love to see a round themed at high Storm Scale mechanics. Like a set of decks, one each focused on Dredge, Storm, Phyrexian Mana, Affinity, Delve, Miracle, stuff like that as the themes. Lim-Dul, (no idea for Storm), Yawgmoth, Memnarch, 5(no good idea for Delve), and Mikaeus.

I have a perfect candidate for a card types-matter commander:
Commander's artifact (If this card is your commander, you may start the game with an artifact card in the command zone. Once per game, you may cast that card from the command zone.)
Commander's instant or sorcery (If this card is your commander, you may start the game with an instant or sorcery card in the command zone. Once per game, you may cast that card from the command zone.)
Commander's land (If this card is your commander, you may start the game with a land card in the command zone. Once per game, you may play that card from the command zone.)
So, say you have four decks themed after artifacts, enchantments, sorceries (and instants), and land. Each of those decks has a commander with the Commander's card mechanic that specifies the appropriate card type.

Seems busted beyond belief, and also undermines the whole idea of commander: having a commander. The trade-off is also really bad; either you win outright with a combo, or you get screwed over for trying to go with something fun because you only get to cast it once.
I do like the idea of Elements or Seasons.
Season wise
Winter: WU is the obvious part especially with Ojutai being the Soul of Winter and the like that leaves with you a flex slot, I say R or B and of those two I go B. As for the creature type, I don't know Zombie Cleric or a Faerie with be sweet.
Spring: In my mind this is the easiest to pick three colors for should be GWU, since spring is all about growth and rain. I am thinking something Enchantment focused
Summmer: This is perhaps the most versatile option. R is obvious but beyond that you can go RGW, RUW, RBW, RGB. Etc But something land and Elemental Focused in my book.
Autumn: I think GWB or BUG here. Theme wise I am not sure it be nice to have something less graveyard focus in these colors.
Crazy idea, but what if Four Seasons were each four-colored? Green, being the color of nature, fits in each season, leaving us with four quads to choose from:
Spring RGWU The brightest quad, without dark, icky black. Gotta have Heartbeat of Spring in there!
Summer BRGW The warmest quad, without chilly blue.
Fall UBRG The darkest quad, without bright, shiny white. Make sure to include Harvest Season!
Winter GWUB The coldest quad, without fiery red.

Its hard when its cold plenty of death. Probably some grave recursion could give a tricolor Zombie commander, artifacts, some faeries, some Enchantments as well especially Curse and Milling your opponents.
AUTUMN: SULTAI BUG Obviously lots of grave recursion, Counters of the plus and minus variety, maybe some morph and infect. As for graveyard shenanigans maybe a commander that can cheat stuff from the grave into play with an ability like the Scarab God. Or so more Delve.
SUMMER: NAYA RGW I think this is the hardest one Summer can go a lot of different ways obviously it has to have R. I think it boils down to Jeskai vs Naya though and I went with Naya, Green for the flowers and Red/White for the heat and light. Big Creatures, LandFall, Direct Damage Spells to the face. Landfall and Elemental Focus.
Not the best color balance cause Red gets left out a lot but WOTC doesn't color balance anymore. And I think these fit the theme the best. WUBRG 3/3/2/1/3
