What's up with these promo League tokens? What is a Magic League? How do you get these tokens? Why are some $1 and others are "super rare" and retail for $20-$40? I started collecting tokens because I thought it would be a relatively cheap thing to collect (Marit Lage aside) but was horrified to discover these crazy-expensive League promos.
Wasn't sure if this should be here or in Magic general

So, stores could set up :league play", and what that was used to be (if I remember correctly) you got a certain amount of product, and you opened it and built your deck, and you played against people who were in the same boat, sort of like super-limited. Except every week you could get more packs somehow. It's not terribly popular, so league tokens are produced in tiny amounts.
The older League tokens were more widely produced because WOTC thought it would be more popular, but now they print far fewer.

Ah, ok. I used to go to the Pokemon League back in the day and I remember Yugioh leagues but I'd never heard of a Magic league before. Well, that's kind of depressing. My LGS had 4 of the Centaur tokens but I don't know how he got them since he's never hosted a league. Well, I guess I'll never be completing my token collection because I'm not paying $60 for the "SUPER RARE!!1" squid token. I could get 4-6 Fetchlands for that price.

I care, but my caring has limits, haha. Man, whoever goes to these leagues must be lucky. Every time they win a promo it's a free $20-$60 bill.
