As for the customer getting screwed, absolutely not. He was sent the playset including the damaged card and refunded full price for the damaged card. My business takes care of its customers unlike unscrupulous others who shaft people when price spikes happen.
Wow, if you can't see that this is exactly what SZO did for you then there's some serious delusional hypocrisy going on here.
I want a replacement product, not a refund. Did you read the section titled 'Desired Outcome'? You also don't expect to get a card advertised in near mint that has writing all over it.
I also saw the playset in the toploader before I sold it and assumed all was well coming from SZO, who I have dealt with several times in the past. They covered the back of it with a SZO insert that happened to cover the writing on the card. This was not realized until I pulled them to repackage them for shipping.
We were also told that he 'Didn't care if we ever bought from him again'. Seems like poor business sense. If everyone 'never buys from him again' he isn't going to have any customers left.
We were never once rude. We only told them that we wanted a replacement. Even if it isn't immediately, its the right thing to do and we'd like to reach this outcome.
A refund is legitimate, there is no shady business here. If the current price of the card is the issue, how is that any different than what you are doing?
They were out of stock and offered you a refund for the original amount you paid. End of story. Move on.
They were not in the wrong in any way except for a reasonable mistake concerning the condition of a single card in your order. The complaint you filed with the BBB is frivolous and the arguments you made are moot. I would not go as far as to say you are delusional for believing in the amount you are entitled to for compensation, but I will say that you are unreasonably selfish and greedy.
It is your choice to delve into the speculation market and ultimately your responsibility to accept that things won't work out perfectly in such a business. Strikezone is not in the business of speculation and simply cannot take the price increase into account when they have to compensate you. As a retailer, they owe you the amount you originally paid, that's it.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.

Let's assume you sold them for $10 a piece. What if in the the interem they increased to $20 per card. Are you going to refund your customer what they paid or what the card is worth now? Afterall you passed SZO's mistake on to your customer.

I didn't have them in possession for over two weeks. I moved and had to wait for them to be forwarded.

Again, I was nothing but polite to SZO. They took an attitude with me, likely because they realized they lost money. Not my problem. I speculated that Splinter Twin would jump in price so I bought them.
I did absolutely nothing wrong and the fact that people would say otherwise astounds me.
You're either a)Jealous; or b) SZO employee.
Haters gonna hate. I'm makin' money.
You are completely and totally wrong. And I'm not jealous or a SZO employee. They did what good business practices and ethics required of them. Your inability to turn a huge profit on the card isn't their responsibility. Also, BBB is going to laugh at you.

**Most of this post is directed at the complainant and not at annorax, I only replied to his post because as I stated to begin with, I 100% agreed with it.**
I 100% agree. This poster complaining about this situation is rediculous. Heck, Ill compare this situation to one I had recently. I bought a playset of splinter twin from a seller on ebay, one Ive bought and sold cards to plenty over the years. One of the cards arrived in terrible condition and I was a little erked and tried to contact the seller to no avail, eventually having to get a simple refund for the card in question from the seller via ebay forcing the refund. Would I have prefered a replacement? Absolutely. Was I still fine with a refund of what I payed? Yup.
As a seller, I can say that you should never EVER sell anything that you arent in possession of (pre-sales on a new set and being careful of how much you are offering vs how much you are likely to get aside, though I refuse to do that myself.) If you buy cards from somewhere, it is 100% your responsibility to make sure that when you receive them, that you take all the cards out of the package, look them over carefully to make 100% certain there are no problems, and if there are any problems, then you promptly contact the seller and let them know of the issue, and see about getting a replacement, or a refund if there is an issue.
The complainant in this case didnt do their job and didnt look over the cards before re-selling them for a profit on ebay.
And what another poster said is a perfect example. If the complainant in this case, sold them for $10 each, and then they suddenly jumped to $20, and the buyer was complaining that they wanted a replacement that you didnt have, would you offer them a refund of $20 I wonder? I bet you wouldnt.
I dont work for SZO, I sell magic singles for a local brick and mortar store and I sell on ebay. I know about good customer service, and I know how to satisfy my customers, I also can sympathize and understand things from the perspective of both a customer and a seller. In the end, mistakes do happen. Strikezone made a mistake and did their best to make it right, much to your inability to see that. You made a mistake by not taking the time to look over the cards thoroughly before tossing them on ebay to make your quick profit, and you made it right to your customer as well, which you can see, though for whatever reason cannot see the same from strikezone.
I can guarantee you 100% that strikezone didnt intentionally sell you written-on product. When you have a company doing the insane volume of sales that strikezone does, you eventually may come across situations where someone doesnt look at the back of some of the cards that get sold to them and then when they go to resell them, run into the same issue you did. In the end you are entitled to a refund or a replacement, you were offered a refund, and thats that, end of story. The rest was completely on you.
After reviewing this thread, I ordered from them today and accidentally selected the wrong shipping address in paypal. I contacted Strikezone and even though it's a Saturday and their listed contact hours are Monday-Friday 12-5, they (Dustin) immediately contacted me back and assured that he received the message. So far, the experience has been great (and the shipping remarkably cheap).
edit: received today (5/25). Excellent service, cards were perfect and packaged properly, and I have no complaints.
FuxAlt: If the cards were in your possession when you RESOLD the items, it was your own responsiblility as a seller to 'check' the items before you even SOLD the items.
I sense some 'excuses' from this poster
Either way, you made money, you lost less than you made, whats to complain? Only blame yourself for not 'double checking'
As for my experiences with SZO, I bought from them around 5~6 times. The only time that I had a problem was that, I bought around 8~9 Shocklands from them, at that time I think the winning bid was US$50, they were listed as NM, but when they came, they were all played, I would say that some cards were a bit damaged on the side.
What happens? They gave me full refund and I kept the cards.
I play casual, so I didnt really care about the condition.
I have ordered from them three times and each of the three times there was an issue.
#1 - I ordered a Mirri's Guile ($4) and about $3 worth of cheap junk just because I hate spending $4 on an order. So, I get the order and in the envelope is the crap I didn't want and 2 Two Dollar bills with an apology. I get that stores have imperfect inventories, but I would like to have seen an email letting me know so I could have just cancelled.
#2 - I was told that this kind of thing was rare, so I ordered about $15 worth of this-n-that including a Mistmeadow Witch that I needed for EDH. Those suckers are hard to find locally. I open my package and... Nice to meet you you useless Mistmeadow Skulk! Honest mistake, but if you know how a blink deck works you know that we are talking the different between Megan Fox and a cow in heat.
#3 - Again, I want to give them a shot. I sell off my playset of Jace, TMS and have some cash to toss around and want to complete my collection of Shadowmoor Filters and Ravnica Shock lands. When I open it up everything looks good, there is something on the Fetid Heath. What's that? Daarken drew a ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺ smiley face with Sharpie and signed the bottom. Again, it's a small detail, but I don't want an artist "altered" card when it's Sharpie in the middle of the sky.
I still respect them as a store and the guys seem pretty cool, but when you are working with thousands of small pieces of paper AND the US Postal Service I think an attention to detail is important and I haven't seen it yet.
Ive personally bought from them dozens of times over the past few years, and they are one of few stores that Ive yet to never have a problem with. Strikezone is one of those stores, that when I see they happen to have the best price (or close enough to it) on the cards I need, Im happy to choose them because out of the 50+ orders Ive placed with them through their online store and ebay Ive not once had a problem.
@Galspanic: Out of curiosity, did you contact them about it/did they make it right? Just wondering how they take care of mistakes on their end.
And this is where it sits squarely on me... Yes, I emailed them about the Mirri's Guile and they said that their inventory is 99.9% accurate but on old rares if there is one in stock then once in a great while their computers are wrong. They were very polite about it and because of that I did the next order. But when it happened the second time, no. I didn't contact them because it felt silly bothering them about such small things and I hate the idea of wasting the time and paper to send 1 card that's not worth anything.
This seems to be the more common opinion of them. I shopped with them because they came highly recommended by a very respectable source.
Edit: I emailed them about this and within 4 minutes he responded asking what he wanted me to do about this... 4 minutes for a reply from the OWNER. That speaks volumes about their dedication to customer service in my mind.

Yeah, I understand about not contacting them; I thought you might not have because I probably wouldn't have either ^^.
Just wanted more information because I wasn't sure if that was the end of the story =). From what I can tell from everybody else as well they seem like a very reputable business.

In a backwards way I agree with you. I think that's the reason customer service is more important than exact, 100% accuracy, which a high volume store can never realistically hope to achieve. You can, however, make things right when the customer is justifiably unhappy.
Did something happen to their store? I got this message while trying to add something to my cart:
I can't add this to the cart.
Store 'Strike Zone Online' is not active and can't receive orders.
You have no items in your cart.
and I tried calling them but their mailbox is full.
They use bidwicket and have to prepay their fees. It looks like their account balance ran out and you won't be able to place orders until they receive them.
Just a random question: What type of shipping does everyone use?
I used the $1 shipping because it was the cheapest, but the site strongly reccomended the $9 shipping and said that the $1 was very risky, making me quite skeptical. Anyways, strikezone has some really great prices. Hasn't let me down yet.

If you pay with paypal, then you are covered as a buyer no matter the shipping method. If the cards dont arrive, arrive damaged, or otherwise, its the responsibility of the seller to take care of it. In most cases then $1 shipping method would be fine :).

How does one go about doing that? I recently made a purchse with SZO, using the 99 cent shipping. I've ordered many times and haven't had this issue before, usually the orders come within 4 days maximum, however, its been over a week now and still no order. Don't want to wait forever as I already planned to use the cards last friday.

Log into your paypal account. And then find in your history where the payment was registered. Open the details link, and then at the bottom of the payment should be a link to the resolution process, and from there you can start a case for the cards you havent received.
Just bear in mind, that USPS can be slow at times, so keep that in mind. Personally I would give it up to 2 weeks, though I would also find out the specific date the cards were mailed if you dont allready know. Ive always found Strikezone to be one of the best sellers online, so I would never assume they didnt send it, however USPS seems to have plenty of its own issues these days, so occasionally there are delays.
Hello, a random question. I just sold some cards to strikezone for the first time. I usually buy or a combination of buy and trade in some cards. Bidwicket sent an email saying the transaction was completed and credit was issued. My concern is I do not have an account with them, instead I usually do individual orders. There is no paypal payment either. So do they usually issue payment a week later or should I contact them?
I've often ordered from strike zone, and they have never disappointed. I will say that their pricing can be hit or miss, sometimes its higher then starcity, sometimes lower. Generally their staples have better prices, but their random cards do not.
