they are a good company and have made things right for me in the past. That being said when I preordered worldwake and the prices rose drastically on some cards, they emailed me requesting a higher price than what I paid for them.
LOL. Shameless.
If you really care about prices, you go to eBay. As far as I know, SCG is sweet service.
Ordered a pile of ARB uncommons from them on eBay when the set first came out. Lorescale Coatl and Bloodbraid Elf, and some others. They were all about a dollar per card at that point. I paid right away.
A few days later, still no notification of shipment, so I emailed. The reply was "we're all out of Bloodbraid Elf but we'll refund you what you paid for them.... we've got the Lorescale Coatls in stock though, so we'll ship those out." They then relisted the BBEs for triple the price.
A quick forum search showed me that they do this all the time. They ship whatever goes down in price, and refund for whatever goes up.
Generally a good place to buy from, and not bad to sell to either. Their boosters are fairly overpriced but really everything else is pretty well priced. I've ordered twice but also have gone to their actual physical store. The store is better because their buy prices are higher but you have to write all the cards you want on a list of paper The only negative experience was where they sent me non-foils when I ordered foils of a ROE common - but they refunded money into my account so I was totally satisfied. Shipping is a little expensive. Recommended though.
Ive ordered quite a bit from them and for the most part id give them a 7/10. Most shipping gets here in about 6 days (Im in CO). I've had three problems with them. I ordered 2 Nirkana Revenants and only received one, they credited me the cost. I ordered a bunch of umbras and got 8 Boar umbras instead of the 4 bear umbras. they sent the 4 and told me to keep the boars. most recently i ordered 4 mimic vats and couldnt get them to answer the phone, return and email and when i checked the shipping status it just said that USPS had been notified to expect a package. then about 2 weeks after i ordered the cards, i checked and it was magically in denver, and shortly after i had an email saying they had 'oversold' mimic vat and had to get some new ones. luckily i ordered them when they were still just over $2, and they were up to around $5 when they finally shipped and they didnt ask for more or offer me credit for them.
i just got my first order from them like a week ago. they were alright to deal with. i put my order in the night of Oct 12, got a confirmation email the next day saying they were ready to ship, they never actually shipped for another week. i called the store several times, and was lied to a lot, i was told on 3 separate days over the phone that that had been the day it shipped for sure. finally on my 4th call to see what was up cause my usps tracking number kept saying that they just had an order but never shipped, i was told that they had over sold on one of the cards i needed. this was the first honest response i got from them (i also think it was a different guy on the phone this time, he seemed nicer.) he told me they had just bought the cards and that my shipping would be there in the net 2 days, and it was! All in all it took 12days t get my cards, and i looked them up and realized i only lived like 80miles away from them, but S&H was cheaper then bridge toll and gas. my advise if you order from them would be to call the following day and get a straight answer about if they have your cards actually in stock or not, and possibly adjust your order from there. personally I might use them again.
Recently made a reasonable sized order for a couple playsets each of 4 different cards. The purchase was made online on the 10th in two seperate orders (missed one of the cards the first time I was ordering ... oops), and I got a shipping notification email for the whole batch the next day. Me being as busy as I am, make time every couple weeks to check which packages Ive gotten and which ones I havent. The day for that would have been today ironically enough, and yesterday I finally got my package (yes thats right, 18 days after my order, and 17 days after it was supposedly shipped). I checked the tracking information and it showed that the package was initially processed in CA on the 25th (a full 2 weeks after It was supposedly shipped). In the end it wasnt that big a deal, I managed to make due with what I had, and I had actually placed an order a few days ago and originally thought this might be that order (and was surprised to find what I did get, having forgotten about the other order since it had been so long.)
Anyhow, overall I would give their shipping time a very poor grade, their communication to at least let me know it was going to take some time a very poor grade, and sadly even the condition of the cards in some cases was worse than advertised. BUT! I did get everything, and 3/4 of the cards have gone up in value since I bought them, so Im not too worried about it.
Could have been worse I suppose, but if I had been in more dire need of them and had to wait this long, I would have been VERY unhappy. As of now, I just wouldnt reccomend them to anyone. Not saying they are bad, but simply that many other stores I have dealt with are better, so they wont be the first place I look to, unless the price is just that much better.
Well. I was surprised to see the last order I purchased on the 25th, was shipped on the 26th, and arrived in the mail on Friday the 29th. The cards were all in pristine condition, and everything was great. After what happenned with the last order, I rather expected this one to take a while as well, but nope, and I couldnt be happier. I guess its just something to be wary about when you are ordering something that is hot at the time and that their stock on hand may not be able to adequetly deal with if they sell out.
Now I dont blame them to an extent, I understand it can be a pain to keep exact stock levels updated at all times. But from a customer service perspective, if you have a stock on hand of a card to sell online, that stock should ONLY be for your online sales, and if you have a stock on hand for your shop, then that stock should ONLY be for your shop. This is something Ive noticed as being a big issue for a lot of online stores and their inventory management. If you sell out of a card at your shop, and you need more, then go check and make 100% certain you still have the stock on hand for the online side of the business, reduce the online stock accordingly, and restock the shop. Stock levels should also be checked and double checked for accuracy before listing an item up for sale. It takes a lot of time and effort to make sure everything is up to date and correct, but in the end, keeping your customers happy, and not waiting for weeks for the ordered cards, helps keep them coming back, and keeps you in business.
Thats my point of view anyway. I always at minimum double check my stock levels anytime I list something online. I never shaft an online order at the expense of the shop I sell at, because I keep seperate stocks for each. If I do need to restock the shop because something sold overly well, then I make sure that I have unsold copies of the cards available from my online side of things to take from before I take them to the shop. Customer service is the biggest thing for me, and I wish it was for everyone else, but thats not always the case.
Regardless, while the last transaction may have taken nearly 3 weeks to arrive, this one took only a few days, so grats to them for getting at least one of my orders perfectly handled :).
If you're looking for an endorsement, CFB is my highest recommended store, they almost always have the lowest prices on singles. I just looked at my order history with them, and see I've purchased 17 seperate orders with them, totalling $401, since 4/29/09. Orders ranged from $2 up to $75. All orders have been for singles.
Of the 17 orders, 14 went off smoothly without a single incident.
In one order, a single 15 cent foil was missing, out of stock they said. They acknowledged it was not included in the order by notifying me on the included invoice, and without any prompting I got a 15 cent credit on my account.
In a second error, they didn't send two 10 cent foils (out of about 200 cards in the order). Again they stated out of stock, and again they acknowledged that they were not shipped. After a week my account was not credited, so I sent them an email asking for 20 cents credit (normally I wouldn't bother over 20 cents, but since I buy from them monthly...), and within hours they apologized and issued me a $1 credit.
Given that these 3 missing cards totaled 35 cents, I'm inclined to believe they were out of stock, or simply couldn't be located in their inventory, as opposed to anything sneaky or underhanded like a bait and switch should the value/price of a card suddenly rise.
The third error involved my order of (among other cards) Groundbreaker. They accidentally sent me a Planar Chaos Harmonize. I emailed them, they told me to keep the Harmonize, and sent the Groundbreaker that very day.
Channelfireball, Troll and Toad, and Coolstuffinc are about the only 3 sites I use, and Channelfireball is usually my go-to site.
I hope this isn't taking it off topic but I honestly don't know where else to ask. I'm trying to order something from them, and I'm on the checkout screen, everything entered fine, but I click on "Place Order" and I get a red box that says "Missing Customer." What on EARTH does that mean?
I've about 200 small cards in the basket, which has taken me almost an hour to put together, and if I drop them an email asking what they mean, I'll have to wait until tomorrow for a reply (at least) and the basket will be emptied overnight. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, even if by pm.
This will hopefully be the second time I've ordered from them. I had no problems the first time, they were fast (I'm overseas) and their prices, including their postage, can't be beaten on the kinds of random stuff I look for. I did try to order again about a month ago but I had huge trouble in the checkout that time too, it wouldn't accept my details for some reason and I just gave up. It happened again tonight, but I persevered this time. If they could clear that up, they'd be perfect.
That is an issue with crystalcommerce the software they use. Give them a call and they should be able to fix it.

Sold some cards around SOM release. They were non-responsive to a response email I sent to them asking them how one goes about choosing store credit instead of a check. When my package came in, they assumed i wanted store credit without confirming through email so I missed out on payment for a few weeks. When I emailed them, they quickly responded and rectified the mistake and sent me my money. I was afraid of some shennanigans as some of the cards I had sold had dropped in price but they were very upfront about everything and I received my money.
I would definitely do business with them again.

I'm dealing with an issue with this store atm. On the 27th I traded in around 530 dollars worth of cards for store credit at the local PTQ in Vegas. I was credited right away on my account and I made my order on the same night.
Problem is, they emailed saying they had shipped on the 2nd by UPS Air, by Monday the 6th UPS' site still only showed 'Billing Information Received' with no other status. I contacted the store through email, as no one has ever answered the phone when I have called (even during their retail hours) with no response. Though I did finally get a status update on the UPS site and I then did receive my order on the 8th.
Ok, no big deal, shipping took a little longer than I would have liked and I would have appreciated better communication, but at least my cards were here and I could finally finish building my deck.
Unfortunately, my order was short a Tarmogoyf, a Scrubland and instead of getting 2 Mox Diamonds, I received 2 Mox Opals. :/
Lower value cards I don't sweat much, but none of those could be considered that. I'm hoping beyond hope that someone gets back in touch with me soon and I can get this settled. I did file a claim with UPS as it does look as though at some point, the package had been reopened and then sealed again with a bunch of packing tape.
I have sent an e-mail stating my issue and left a voice mail at the number on their website. I am really shocked that they do not have a legitimate phone in the shop that some live person could answer.
I'll happily update this the status on this if and when I hear from the company.
Update (12/9/10): Received an email. Out of stock on the Goyf and Scrubland, but they hope to replenish stock on Monday in which they will then ship the cards to me along with a return envelope for the Opals. I'll update further when I get another update.
Update (12/21/10): Received all cards in good shape and in a timely manner. Everything is square at this point.
I'm currently having an issue with them. IN THE STORE at the latest tournament, I submitted a bunch of valuable commons/uncommons for their buylist, and the money was credited to the wrong account. They have not fixed anything yet, but I assume they will since they usually do. I'll keep this updated.
UPDATE: Received payment 12 days after I submitted the buylist. A little long for my liking, but it's not a big deal. They're usually fine. I had to go into the physical store to deal with it though, which I didn't like too much.
just wanted to let everyone know of a really positive experience with Channel Fireball. Because of GP Denver my order was delayed a few days and to compensate they refunded my shipping ($6) and apologized via email.
I've sent in about a half dozen sell orders to them without much problem before, other than they seem to be getting slower and slower on processing. The first couple orders they had processed and paid within 48 hours of receipt, the last two times I've had to e-mail them 2 days in a row (past the first 48 hours), get no response, but credit is usually posted immediately after my 2nd inquiry.
My current order, Day 4 of e-mailing them (48 hours after they received), no responses, no payment. I presume the order hasn't been processed, but they've had it 6-7 days now, no excuse. Unless they explain the delay to satisfaction, I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
EDIT:
Day 5 (+48 hours after they received), credit is finally issued. And of course they fail to explain the delay.
Are these guys known for poorly grading cards? I recently ordered 4 cards that were advertised as "Near Mint-Mint". The cards that I actually received wouldn't have been graded that way even by a blind man, because he could have at least felt the border chips on all of them. Common occurrence with this store or what?
Just received my first order from them. Like $130 worth of stuff, shipped in a reasonable time frame to Canada. The lack of communication you guys are talking about is a little unnerving if I ever had a problem, but as it is I think I will be shopping with these guys more.
Just wanted to let folks know that last year after having a REALLY bad experience with some pre-orders... I finally got around to using some store credit I had waiting for me at CFB. Everything I ordered came in great shape and came quickly (ordered Thursday night, came Weds). So in my experience, it's only the pre-ordered cards that have given me issue.
Obviously I am biased as I write for their site, but you can call the store and they will rectify the situation quickly.
As for grading, Jon and Tristan do a really good job grading the cards, and I am surprised of the issues. Has anyone else experienced this? I have bought TONS of stuff and never had an issue.
No. Usually, NM is NM, and lightly played could often be considered NM. They're also not too strict about purchasing cards with some play. I've never had a single condition issue.
If you have any questions, or a change in order, their service team is generally slow to respond (a few days.) In my case, I wanted to change my order, but by the time they responded it had already shipped.
However, despite that easy mix up, they did contact me. They were nice, courteous, and compensating. In the end it didn't matter much that I didn't change my order, so no real complaints there.
Only issue with condition was a "N/M" Sword of Feast and Famine had a fingernail dent at the top. Rest was N/M. I was alittle annoyed, but in the end I don't care much. However, I could easily see someone complaining about it. (and in which case I'm sure they'd be happy to switch out that sword with a truely N/M one.)
I originally was ordering from them because I highly preferred their good free content on a competent video player. However, they have changed to a train wreck of a player with ads and low quality video streaming. This leads me to be less inclined to shop there as opposed to other rogue stores, so that may be something to keep in mind.
Overall they're quite good. Prices are competitive. But, they're not my go-to store anymore.
