I've looked EXTENSIVELY through gatherer to find any way to gain life in Grixis colors - here's what black has to offer that hasn't been mentioned: Shadowfeed, Suffer the Past, Syphon Life, and Tribute to Hunger. It's pretty slim pickin's.

As someone who plays Grixis control I thank you for finding me: suffer the past. I will try it as a 1 of. I wish Vampire Nighthawk had 4 toughness but lost its deathtouch to even out.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.
Seriously, we're going to consider Corrupt, a six mana sorcery, but not Gray Merchant of Asphodel, a Corrupt on legs for one mana less? If you're running mono black (I presume that's what prompted the question), there's many high-devotion cards that already see play in Modern such as Bloodghast, Geralf's Messenger, and Phyrexian Obliterator to get the most bang out of Gary.
In all seriousness, in case you're looking for competitive answers in something like Grixis (more likely), most people would sideboard Dragon's Claw against burn and be done with it.
Decks I'm playing in Modern right now:
URB Grixis Reveler (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/modern-grixis-reveler/)
UB Faeries (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/ub-fae-2/)
UW Azorious Control (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/modern-ojutai-control-2/)
Tron
UB Tezzerator
UBW Gifts
B 8Rack
Legacy
RB Goblins
In the same vein as this, Tendrils of Corruption is cheaper, but only hits creatures.
BGGRock
Modern
BRGJund
BBGRock
