Ok, so I'm pretty sure that rare mapping isn't really getting people anywhere the way it used to. But paring a box is still possible I suspect. Now obviously I can look up the general prices of cards from sets using Ebay and MOTL and the like, but I'm looking for some anecdotal input from you guys here.
Here are my box options.
Innistrad - $89.99
Dark Ascension - $88.97
Avacyn Restored - $89.97
Return to Ravnica - $109.99
I'm aware RTR has yet ANOTHER Jace (dear jesus why?), but it's also the newest set and of course, costs the most.
Any thoughts on which box would make the most sense to buy? Or a case of them?

RTr is the best deal right, but Innistrad is a good alternative pick. There are only a few bad mythics, and the rares are tradable, if not valuable.
DKA is a coin flip. You either get Aristocrat, Geralf's Messenger, Gravecrawler, and Huntsmaster plus another one, or the box was not worth it. DKA is just a complete gamble.
Avacyn Restored, the cards are going dropping in value.
In summary, Innistrad is a good second pick. The other two, not so much.
From a limited/casual/edh player who loves to collect and loves his values.
RTR would be most ppl go to response.
BUT, most people have everything they need from that set, shocks, jace, and the like.
It wont be easy to trade off as much stuff as you could the first couple weeks of release.
I'd say go with AVR, entreat and bonfire are still huge.
Avacyn and grislebrand are casual players gold
Tamiyo is on the rise again.
Cavern, resto, knight, terminus...
Go with avacyn. Plus its 25 bucks cheaper.
Innistrad has alot of stable value...All 4 big money cards WILL retain their valve even after Innistrad block rotates because of their impact in other formats (e.i. Geist of Saint Traft, Liliana of the Veil, Snapcaster Mage, and Olivia Voldaren).

Olivia Voldaren's price will plunge when Innistrad rotates out, as she doesn't see play in Legacy and the only Modern play she sees is as a 1-2-of in the occasional sideboard (probably Jund or rarely Pod).
Expect Traft, Liliana OTV, and Tiago to retain their prices, though.
I'd go for Innistrad, if you pull a Snapcaster you've already netted about $25 out of the box, and the duals in the set are sitting around $10 and up too. Not to mention Olivia, Geist, and other practical cards.
But as others say, RTR has the best value currently.

Or the $15 dual lands that take up 5 rare slots.
I bought an INN box for $80 at Gencon, pulled over $150 in value. 2 Snaps, tons of dual lands, it was an awesome box.

Brent, are you cracking packs or drafting? If you're a fan of draft, it's hard to turn down Innistrad! Otherwise, for pure "monetary value" it has to be RTR. My personal choice is Innistrad because that set rules.
So what I'm seeing is Innistrad or Return to Ravnica.
Did those of you who picked RTR take the $20 difference into account? I've been leaning Innistrad based on it's price too, but I may be able to find cheaper RTR boxes around, especially in a case.
If you're looking for the best long term value, it's RTR. Inn block rotates out in one year, RTR in two. If you're looking for trade fodder, probably Inn.
if you're looking to make money from this (and it looks like you are, seeing as the only thing you've mentioned so far is cost and value) then here's a simple piece of advice.
keep your money. buying a single box isn't a business venture and won't enable you to make more money. i wouldn't ever regard it as an investment either, unless you are talking about booster boxes from the dawn of the game; alpha, beta, through to mirage etc.
if you're after some nice cards, just pick whichever set you like the most.
if money is your concern, either making it or having some kind of investment, don't buy booster boxes (singular) and maybe more broadly, don't buy into magic.
magic is a game, and currently a poor investment prospect. there are things you can easily find and trade through ebay or real life dealers which aren't magic, but will make you money. go and do some research in those areas.
but like i said, if you're just after cards, pick the ones you like the most. cost isn't a factor there.

I just bought a box of RTR when I shouldn't have... so I contacted a friend of mine who happens to collect and said, "hey, If I gave you a sweet price cut compared to our LGS, would you buy some cards off of me?" He said yes. Angle of Seren, Armada Wurm, and all five shocks later (plus 200 commons) I have $100 cash. I paid 105 even for my box, so for that five dollars I was allowed to keep Abrupt Decay, Rakdos, Foil Chromatic Latern and some other goodies.
So, my list goes: RTR
INN/AVR
DKA
EDIT: I bought Ravnica because I like Ravnica. I just overspent and had to fix it. I don't play shocks or green-white, so my only loss was really the Angel of Serenity.
If you're looking for trade fodder, and possibly selling a few cards to your store for credit, cool. But you're not gonna crack packs and sell every single card for cash. It doesn't work that way.
The $100 I received went in my GateCrash funds box.

the $275(retail) box of RtR i bought for $75 would like a word with you. granted, a month later, that value has dropped, but still, its a gamble. if you can pay the right price on the right set, you can make money. but not often.
I've made some money on boxes before. In fact, I've never not broken even. I was just curious if people had experiences with a specific set. It's looking like Innistrad is the way to go, being $20 cheaper than RTR. I'll look around.
There is a reason that the RtR box costs $20 more: it's just better than anything we have seen in some time.
4 Shocklands pull back $60 in value from the box, and it isn't unheard of to pull 5. You can't do this with Innistrad duals. Shocklands >>>>> Innistrad duals.
Don't buy boxes expecting to pull mythics, the mythics are a plus. Buy boxes if you expect the value of all of the rares to exceed the value of the box. Return to Ravnica is the only set that can realistically do that in current Standard, it is a blast to draft, and you can expect the value of the rares to last long-term.
RTR is the first set in ages that you can buy a box of and reasonably expect to get ahead on. The set just has a bunch of impact rares/mythics, mostly due to the shocklands, but also due to cards like Lotleth Troll, Abrupt Decay, Deathrite Shaman, etc.
Of course, stores are aware of this, and just marked up the prices of their boxes, but not so much that you can't get money out of it.

Is this really true? I only play Magic Online and the shocklands are now all down below the price of a single booster. The days when a single shock land would pay for two drafts are long gone, sadly.
With physical cards, the current batch of shocklands range in value from 12-18 indeed.
They are of course worth less on MTGO, because an unfathomable number of boosters are being opened right now. Release events are still going on etc. Even utility rares that are worth 8-10 IRL are current worth like 1-1.5 tix on MTGO. I'm sure that will taper off eventually, but cards are almost always worth less on MTGO than they are physically. At the same time though, when you need to get rid of cards on MTGO, it is very easy to get full market(MTGO Market obv) value for them over a short time span.
Innistrad, it seems to have the most long term value right meow. Snapcaster and Lily will probably never not see play, and I would imagine Geist will eventually find a home somwhere. The shocks are already down to tennish a peice, and it doesnt look like a whole lot of RAV cards are going to see legacy or modern play.
Innistrad is $20 cheaper but most the potential value lies within the mythics (where you get less per box and a higher chance of the value spots being wasted by Balefire Dragon etc.), whereas with RtR most of the value is in the rares. The cost difference is covered by having a higher chance per pack to make back your money.
Here are my box options.
Innistrad - $89.99
Dark Ascension - $88.97
Avacyn Restored - $89.97
