I haven't seen Chimp or Glix over here yet, but that doesn't mean this game can't stay alive.
The purpose of this game is to suggest two cards that may seem like one is superior to the other, like
Disintegrate>Blaze
Then, the next poster gives a situation that will probably never happen in which you'd want the inferior card, like:
If you have in play a Phage, the Untouchable, as well as an Endless Whispers, Blaze will allow you to give the Phage to the opponent and make them lose while Disintegrate would just remove her from the game.
First up:
Swords to Plowshares > Guilty Conscience
There is a Nature's Revolt, a March of the Machines, and a Dense Foliage in play, and your opponent Mindslavers you, then he will be able to get the Dream's Grip wasted from your hand by targeting the Foliage. However, he will be unable to rid you of your Twiddle, since it can't target the foliage, and doesn't have another target.
I was the one who orginally started the MTGnews threa. Over there, I banned mindslaver, word of command, or anything like that involving your opponent taking ctions for you, as well as Unglued and Unhinged. Also, you cannot say stuff like "Llanowar elves is EXT legal/ has better art etc". And you must use card tags! This is Goblinboy's thread now, so I can't control it, but those were the rules.
If your opponent plays endemic plague and sacrifices Mad Dog, Wild mongrel would die, but Grizzly bears would not.
Also, do people think that creature type based effects should be banned? Above is an example . Lightning Bolt>Chain Lighting>"Lava Spike"(the CoK card that deals 3 to a player).
Banning those things is probably a good idea, but sometimes there are comparisons which simply can't be done without a good mindslaver activation or a control magic. Just try to be as creative as you can, and don't go for the copout. Spirit of the law, here.
Lightning Bolt > Chain Lightning
If you have a Vedalken Orrery in play, and your opponent activates Mirror Universe, you can use Chain Lightning on yourself in response and copy it multiple times to get yourself as low as possible before the switch.
Stuff > Lava Spike
If you want to burn your opponent for 3 damage to end the game, but he has a Coalition Honor Guard in play, the other two will be required to target the Flagbearer and be wasted while the Lava Spike could win the game.
If your opponent has an untapped Flesh Reaver with Enfeeblement on it, and is at 2 life, attacking with the Askari will put him at 1 (Flanking), while the Ogre will kill him.
Well, since you're playing with Portal cards in the first place, the opponent's cards are necessarily worse (and hey, they can't kill it during your turn unless you attack). Really, that's just about all I can come up with that doesn't involve creature stealing or domination. Well, I guess if the opponent plays Clone they have a worse target.
Your opponent has chalice of the void set for 4 and your sneak attack got disenchanted, and he is at 13 life. So you Lava Spike his dome and splice on a little through the breach for a kokushu, smash face, and then he dies to the sacrifice.
When you need to topdeck that one last land to play a Fireball for exactly your opponent's life total, you have no red sources, and are at exactly 1 life.

Wolfwood Sama on MTGO (Westane for PureMTGO community events)
UR - Burning Vengeance
BG - The Rock
RUG - RUG Control
BBB - Zombies
More complex answer:
You have a Transcendence out, and are at 1 life. The card you are searching for is a Disenchant for the Transcendence.
City of Brass<City of Ass

Chrome Mox>any of the original five moxen.
As for Moxen, when you're fighting a Black Vise, Chrome allows you to shrink your hand size.

Your opponent is at 1 life, you have 2 cards left in your deck.
Its your opponent's turn and he has a mindslaver, with the mana to use it.
Dream's Grip > Twiddle
For simplicity sake, always list the more powerful card first.
and use card tags since we have em now
No longer staff here.
*whew*
Kodama's Reach>Untamed Wilds assuming you haven't played a land this turn.

Taiga>Pinecrest Ridge

Burning Shield Askari>Gray Ogre
That's how to remember my name. Or, you could just read the Discworld Novels by Terry Pratchett. I recommend the second method.:)
And dear god, it's on the INTERNET! It has to be true!
...riight.

Bonus points if your answer doesn't include creature stealing or mindslaver.

Marsh Gas>Hell Swarm
Mind Twist > Mind Warp
Um, when you want to block? We should really disallow portal though, it makes this game silly.
Nagao, Bound by Honor > Mercenaries
edit - oops, beaten. Though, mind warp is better when your opponent has one card in a large hand that you really need to get rid of.
Death Speakers>Eager Cadet
