hi everyone, was just wondering if i could take part in this thread, i live in north jersey but goto school/work in manhattan and would like to be a part of the nyc dark knights! i just came back out of retirement for a while and have been trying to get into extended/standard while playing some limited.
We play mostly out on long island unfortunately, but we have a few tristate guys. I think hitokirender is from Jersey and has a decent standard spot. good players, decent decks, roughly 20-25 heads each FNM.

depends on how you're drawing 5. if it's a spell like braingeyser or stroke, then no, you draw all 5 at once, and the failure to draw lose the game trigger goes on the stack or happens immediately (not sure on timing here). if it's individual draws that are all cumulative, say anvil of bogardan type draws, then yes you can respond to each resolving trigger.

While I won't dispute you with a claim of evidence, that makes no sense to me. The way you are coming across, I can play the cards I've drawn from the Stroke/Geyser type spell BEFORE the spell itself resolves. It is my understanding that they are 8 separate draws, but they all are put on the stack, and resolve in order, then the spell resolves. You can not play spells or activated abilities in between them. As far as I know, you can not respond to them other than with triggers that are affected by draws (say Chains of Mephistopheles) and things of that nature. The reason I explained it the way I did was for simplicity, but yes, you are correct in that they are X Draw a cards, however I will not quite accept that you can respond, even at instant speed, before the X draw spell has finished resolving.

I watch basketball, in general, but watching the Knicks hurts my soul. I do agree though that Krypto-Nate is amazing, as well as David Lee.
While Nate is cute and all, he really isn't that good. He has some amazing nights, but he's not even as good as John Starks was, and he was a perennial 6th man. The Knicks are a disgrace, and them trying to get david lee onto the all-star team was a disgusting joke. he's terrible. they have no offense and are forced to run through him, and he's a center....10 boards + 10 points a game doesn't make you an all-star. i miss the old knicks, you know, the one's with a chip on their shoulder. guys like Charles Oakley and Anthony Mason brought an attitude to the team. These guys don't have that. Even Nate's issues with attitude can not touch those guys, nor does it spread through the locker room.

i don't believe 8 individual draws - or ANY draws - are put on the stack. each draw is handled as an individual event (so that you can dredge specific draws, for example), but this doesn't use the stack... otherwise you WOULD be able to respond to each of the X draws.

423.1. A player draws a card by putting the top card of his or her library into his or her hand. This is done as a game action during each player's draw step. It may also be done as part of a cost or effect of a spell or ability.
408.2g Game actions don't use the stack.
'A player may play an activated mana ability whenever he or she has priority and whenever a rule or effect asks for a mana payment. This is the only kind of ability that can be played in the middle of playing or resolving a spell or ability. See rule 406, "Mana Abilities."'
You can't respond to each draw. Triggered abilities and replacement effects like Chains of Mephistopheles only work because they aren't played, they just happen.
(410.1. Because they aren't played, triggered abilities can trigger even when it isn't legal to play spells and abilities, and effects that prevent abilities from being played don't affect them.)
Alright, so I misspoke, but the general idea of what i said is correct

eh, last time I answer rules questions past my bedtime...:-X I described it wrong, but my point was that the draws are taken individually, not all @ once. My brain was thinking more along the lines of Storm, as I was testing an AnT deck on MWS 10 minutes prior. My apologies for the wrong ruling...hitoki, I need to know if that kid @ FNM still needs that Gilded Lotus. Picked one up for him. If not, oh well. LOL. Let me know!!
Lmao @ that! Of course it's serious buisness, it's a virtual pissing contest. Some people just need to show the person on the other end of the screen whos boss.

I need a couple of ruleings if you guys can help.
I) Protection does not protect against flanking, correct?
Situation: 1/1 with Unquestioned Authority blocks my Knight of the Holy Nimbus
II) I have Wheel of Moon and Sun in play and im going to deck, i need to draw 5 and have 2, could I wait until i have no cards in deck and play an instant? then lather, rinse, repeat?
III) I have Platinum Angel enchanted with Robe of Mirrors, im at -24 and my opponent Oblivion Rings the robe then the angel, he has Spitting Image in the graveyard. even though it is a sorcery, could i Memory Plunder it before the second ORing resolves?
Here the 1/1 dies. the creature isn't applying the affect. in this case, that's how it works. i'm sure we can concoct others where it won't
depends on how you're drawing 5. if it's a spell like braingeyser or stroke, then no, you draw all 5 at once, and the failure to draw lose the game trigger goes on the stack or happens immediately (not sure on timing here). if it's individual draws that are all cumulative, say anvil of bogardan type draws, then yes you can respond to each resolving trigger.

Actually, I live on the South Side of Staten Island, which makes me BARELY from New York :ugh:. Though, I am trying to get some friends to make the trek with me to play some legacy at Mark's, real legacy ftw!
I watch basketball, in general, but watching the Knicks hurts my soul. I do agree though that Krypto-Nate is amazing, as well as David Lee.

And if I've offended you, I'm sorry, but maybe you need to be offended. But here's my apology and one more thing...
