You shouldn't feel honored. The only reason turn out was so high is because race played a HUGE factor in this election. If it had been like the past 43 elections, the turn out would have been nearly the same.
Groundbreaking? Yes
Huge moment in American History? Yes
Should you feel honored? No
Sour grapes much?
Yes, race is a silly reason to motivate a base that historically doesn't get too excited about voting - but any reason voting ticks up another % is a reason to be proud.
Democracy works best when 100% of the population votes, and we're a far cry from that currently - no matter the reason for people to get motivated, anything that ticks up the ratio of voters a % is a good thing in the end.
(I'd say W's terrible presidency was another great thing for the country in motivating people to vote - even though in direct terms it was terrible)
Big picture, little picture - summary of your evaluation of race as well as why McCain's failure was so great.

Hey, I voted Obama. I'm not a sour grape, I'm just pointing out that external factors were a large part of this election.

I was more referring to being sour that normally disenfranchised voters are actually getting involved in the process.
Everyone should be proud of new voters - regardless of their reason behind becoming active. More voters is a good thing, if they have a stupid reason - so be it, but the day when we reach 100% is the day this country works best and with little question to it's workings.

Umm... Race actually wasn't that big of a factor. I mean it was A factor but it wasn't a big one. Biggest factor was the past 8 years of botched republican leadership and the overall screwing of the economy. And the biggest showing of "not race" is Iowa which has only a 2% black population still went to Obama cause he's good at what he does and ISN'T republicans which currently have a terrible name. Really I think Obama's key to winning was running under the banner of change. Change from what we've been doing is what dragged voters out and give us a black president.
This is truly a ground-breaking moment in our nation's history. Not only did we just elect a black man to presidential office, but we also had the biggest voter turnout in the history of the country.
I think the latter is great. The former is a non-point imo. We're all humans, right? So the new president has a tan and big lips, who cares. All that matters is how he's going to run the country imo.
Looks like about 2% of the people who bothered to vote voted for someone other than McCain/Obama. I woulda liked to see that number a little higher, maybe 60% or so. Maybe next time
Feel free to bid on my cards here!
Thanks to the [Æther] shop for the sig!
